The harpy eagle is the largest and most powerful eagle, and can grow up to 42 inches long.

Their wingspan can reach a record 7-and-a-half feet.

And their massive talons are about 3-4 inches long – the size of a grizzly bear’s claws.

And they use those… to prey on and dismember primates

Yes, these birds have specialized in hunting monkeys and sloths.

Snatching them from trees mid-flight.

Damn!

Claw machines hate them.

If there kids don't learn to fly and hunt quick enough they kill them, to make space for another chick

I was married to a harpy once

10 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 2

Dad, is that you?

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It's not too hard to be a hunter of sloths. Monkeys on the other hand

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Given sloths hang under branches a lot of the time it actually isn't that easy.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3-4 inches long?! Holy shit that's the size of my Di......xon Ticonderoga graphite pencil!

10 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

Sharpened halfway :)

The Golden eagle actually weighs more and has a larger wingspan. The Stellars sea eagle is the largest in the world I believe.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Golden eagles are most definitely NOT heavier. Stellar's, Harpy, and Philippine eagle are variously listed as the largest

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Stellar's have a wider wingspan, Harpies are heaviest on average, and Philippine eagles are largest in body length

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's head looks like a hippogriff.

10 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 2

.........

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, hippogriffs have the head of an eagle.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Now that you mention it, Buckbeak from the third Harry Potter movie does bear a striking resemblance to this bird.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The harpy eagle is the largest and most powerful eagle

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You should never run from anything immortal. It only attracts their attention.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i understood that reference.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Buckbeak!!!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn nature. You scary.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

#5 "Bitch, I am fabulous!"

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Am I the only one that read "dismember pirates" instead of "dismember primates"? Man did I have some questions/concerns!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

"You wouldn't illegally download a car! You would? Well say hello to my avian friend ,pirate! Mwahahahahahhahahahaha"

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was thinking impressive until I heard they hunt sloths.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sloths have pretty good camouflage.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, bald eagles eat out of dumpsters. Fitting that they're the U.S. official animal.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn nature, you scary!

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

My buddy is the head of the bird program here at the Ft worth zoo. They're all terrified of their harpy. They're asshole birds.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

thats because it eats primates for breakfast

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do the Eagles have large talons?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't understand a word you just said

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dinosaurs aren't extinct. Birds are dinosaurs.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I bet there was a lot of fighting on Noah’s Ark.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your description of wingspan is a little misleading since they actually don't even have close to the largest wingspan along eagles

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure he meant that the record for harpy eagles was 7 1/2 feet.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Perhaps. It's still poor word choice in this context. "Up to" is what is usually used. A "record" is usually something abnormally large

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

from a well-studied or caught species/population. That is not the case here.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The harpy eagle is the largest and most powerful eagle

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It doesn't have the largest wingspan, though. In fact, it's wingspan is relatively narrow, which allows it to better maneuver in the forest.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do the chickens have large talo... HOLY SHIT!!!

10 years ago | Likes 495 Dislikes 3

So its some kind of fighting chicken .

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Big enough to carry off Kip

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I don't understand a word you just said

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

I was going to clarify what he just said, but I see you're quoting the movie...

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Well done ;)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Didn't bring ma checkbook. Hope you don't mind I pay you in change.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

$6.00......that's like a dollar an hour!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You fat-lard! Come eat your dinner!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

This is in reference to Tina, the families llama. he's referring to the chicken farm, when Napoleon tries to make money for the dance.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Who's Napoleon?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look up haasts eagle. They used to eat us.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Haast used to be a city. Used to be.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They hunted moa's. They weight possibly up to 16kg with a wingspan under 9feet. Hardly enough to snatch a human.

I'm not saying a Haast eagle has never killed a human. I'm just saying that Haast eagles didn't hunt humans. Thats what I meant anyways.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Moas were 12 ft tall. If it ate moas, it would've certainly ate a human.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Golden eagles sometimes hunt prey much larger than them, but they dont just swoop in and carry it off like a lot of others eagles do (cont)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

those razor sharp talons slamming into you from the sky at 150mph is gonna ruin your day..

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did a report on these in elementary school! i always thought they kicked ass!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They are total assholes. Gorgeous majestic assholes.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Very handsome male eclectus! (Females are beautifully colored, but they're incredibly psychotic tweety-bitches.)

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My family has one these too. Does yours talk? Ours has conversations with us.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes but mostly when I'm not around. He sometimes tries to get me to go pick him up by telling me "come over here!"

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ours says things like "Hi Gully" (his name is Gulliver), and goodnight when we put him to bed. He also asks "is that good" after being fed

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are very smart. Whenever someone leaves he says bye bye and always gives me a kiss at night when I put him to sleep.
