Dude... do you think they would say that?... they'd just say that the Bible doesn't say anything about interest or loans and they'd probably even make up some shit that Jesus was actually a debt collector or some shit... they know their supporters never read the Bible and the ones that did, reinterpret it to suit their agenda and the ones that preach it only preach their version of it to make a buck off their flock. They are anti-Christians, all them and their antichrist president.
Modern Christians have been subject to a corporate takeover by the Samael Corporation. It took him a few centuries, and a lot of modernizing, plus television and the Internet, but now that Jesus is considered woke by Evangelicals, the takeover has been completed.
…or the scripture that literally says to sell all belongings and give to poor to enter Kingdom of God. Jesus suggests socialism directly. Probably a better example than interest.
They won't care. The GOP has no standards. They will happily state one thing, then the direct opposite the next. There are no special gotcha's where they suddenly realise the error in their ways. They are not some wayward, lost child who just needs to learn, they are malicious, evil grifters who are robbing the US (and the world.)
They would just change it to service charges and go on with business as usual. Also, you really don't want to let them set *any* precedent of religious government, because if you encourage them to do it for one thing, you can't sue 'em for using it for lots fo other things.
Nope. All we'd get is: "The RADICAL LEFT is trying to weaponize the Bible, that they don't believe in, all to make fun of Christians! They're taking the Lord's name in vain! We must crusade them out of this country for the glory of JEEBUS!!"
Even better... Get a civil lawsuit against the largest Student Loan companies, take it all the way to the Supreme Court and make THEM uphold or reject it. If a business can deny someone service; if a hospital can deny care, if any religious belief can be used AGAINST citizens, then it follows that CITIZENS have the right to use their beliefs to say NO to paying interest.
The constitution already says the bible can't be used to make policy, but right-wingers only care about the constitution when they're trying to scare people into believing liberals are gonna take away everybody's guns, and when right-wingers try to pass off their lies, hate speech, & corruption as "free speech."
Knowing the Republicans in this country, all it would accomplish is them saying the Bible can't be used to make THIS policy, but any other policy they want to make based on the Bible is absolutely okay.
They would just make the same excuse Jews do, that Usury (charging interest) is only prohibited to other Jews, not to Gentiles and not between Gentiles. But, having them actually say that into the Congressional record would be priceless.
Yep. The trap is that they're not, and never have been, arguing in good faith. They'll contort through whatever mental gymnastics it takes for them to be able to declare themselves or their team/tribe the winner, and to hell with anything resembling "truth."
It's not about getting them with a "gotcha". Speaking from nearly 40 years of experience dealing with toxic people on a daily basis, these people are not arguing in good faith. Most of the time they likely don't even believe the things they claim to believe. This is INSANELY common with toxic/evil people. They falsely cite things as "evidence" to back up their arguments, not because they believe it, but because they know it will throw off their opponents. 1/3
They know that by citing things like religion and covering themselves in labels that make them sound like good people, most of their opponents will assume these people genuinely believe themselves to be good and thus are just misguided or stupid instead of maliciously evil. Then they'll spin their wheels trying to educate them instead of holding them accountable or taking more meaningful action to stop them. 2/3
The goal of using the tactic in the content above is to force them to discredit their own go-to mask. In my experience, when people like these are forced to discredit something they routinely use to mask their behavior or throw off opponents, it causes them a great deal more pain than shouting them down or overwhelming them with votes. They don't give a single shit what anyone outside their group thinks or says about them, which means that using their own words against them hurts far more. 3/3

They would then officiate the Trump bible as the one true book of the Christian™ faith. This version would of course not have any of that woke shit.

That might work if MAGA cared about being hypocrites. The don't. I once called out a MAGA for blatant hypocrisy and his response was "So what?".

You can't gotcha someone who doesn't follow logic. It's all emotional reaction. That's all they have.
