By voice ads, I mean add that play sound. I just got spooked to death by a dudes voice asking me to take a damn survey!

Edit: Thanks @sarah for the clarification! I'll be sure to report the next voice ad I run into.

The terrible ads hijack people's browsers. So adblocks come. Then to respond to this, they get more, increasingly terrible ads. Ugh.

I keep my phone on silent

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While it is an ad on Imgur, they didn't put it there. The advetising company Imgur hired did. Imgur has a policy against that kind of thing.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Well did you take the Spooky survey?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I refuse.

It's 2017, how are people not blocking ads on all of their devices?!?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love the photo!!

Upvoting for awareness +1

I have still never updated ever since they tried to push ads to begin with. Won't even update for favorite folders. Fuck mobile ads.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Use the mobile site, don't waste your time with privacy invading apps.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

The mobile site has been changed to an unusable mess that is nothing more than a shill for the app

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I use it constantly every day. Works like a charm.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I think it got changed today. First I noticed at least

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP @OP headsup this has happened before get in touch /a/pyzwl

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IMGUR has ads?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jokes on them, i always put my phone on silent

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It happens even on silent

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

CONGRATULATIOBS YOYVE WON

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

imgur's time is limited now anyway,.. it gets notably worse by the year. "The next big image site" will be here soon and then the exodus.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do something about the ads that uncontrollably vibrate my phone too please. @sarah

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then download the previous' apk version

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

You know thats not always an option?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Does anybody have this template?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Repost similarity 5/7. Oddly ok with it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get Block This! It disables ads on anything you go on but can also be disabled whenever you want without uninstalling, it's great for imgur!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah, because I need to my imgur browsing on the down low. I don't want an audio ad to bust me!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

tbh mate, it's probably nasty shit that's on your phone not an imgur ad. Quit watching that nasty porn.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Simple Fix: DELETE the Imgur app, open a web browser, and surf the web version.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

AdBlock for iOS (not sure about android) totally removed all ads from Imgur, totally worth a couple bucks.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No it doesn't actually. Put in a report about it

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

If I could remember the post I saw it on, I would. I exited the imgur app while it was playing, and it cut off, though. So it's clearly -

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

- an ad on Imgur.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It took me forever to realize that fucking sound only occurred on imgur. Drove me crazy. Thank goodness I'm not the only one.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

well yes its an ad on imgur but imgur didn't put it there the ad ppl did. imgur has a policy against that kind of thing

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

And yet here we are. If they don't want to have people going off the site, they should vet the ads better.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The best way to help us stop these pesky ads is to report them..Report Ad option that can be found in the sidebar to the right of each post.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From the link above

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The entitlement users of this FREE image sharing site portray is pretty fucking ridiculous. Downvote me if it makes you feel better.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 14

Yes, it's not like imgur depends on it's users for revenue or something, it would be fine if we left.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Imgur doesn't create free content. The users provide the content, and generate the ad revenue. Without users, there is no Imgur.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

There are other sites available that serve the same purpose. So it would behoove them to not push away the users with obnoxious sound ads.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow, I clicked the down arrow and it *did* make me feel better! Many thanks, buddy!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This is why I haven't updated my app in over a year. I'm still ad free

9 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 1

Same.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I switched to not official app because of it. No ads and it has downvote/upvote bar. Yaay

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did the recent notifications 'improvements' break them for you too?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Hey. don't not update your app. for a year, then complain it doesn't work anymore. Don't be that fucking guy.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Well it still works enough is the thing. I just have to choose between ads and knowing I've got replies, like this one.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not that I don't enjoy our little chats.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I've accepted that it may break completely any time. When that happens I will update

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

same

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It’s worthy the punishment of that damn red circle. Always there. Always watching.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup, but unfortunately my notifications have recently stopped working completely.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thought it was just me. Still not updating.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope, same here. Still beats having to deal with crappy ads.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah me too but meh, still better than ads

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup, agreed. I'll take no notifications vs ads.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP Voice ads are not allowed per our ads policy. I'd love to know what the ad was for so we can report it to our ad partners and kill it!

Kill it with fire! Lots and lots of glorious fire!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@Sarah, it might be time to consider getting different ad partners. There are a lot of ads that redirect to scam websites, auto-pop google--

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

--play store, and other obtrusive things that make the Imgur app dangerous to use.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I browse on an actual computer. Nothing weirder than an audio ad playing out of nowhere. Report them as well?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's her!!!

Thanks for replying :) as much as we complain, we are thankful for your help :)

9 years ago | Likes 108 Dislikes 1

When it comes to ads and revenue they sure are jumping the guns quickly.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I've had a number of ads play beeps and other tones. No voices.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. Kill it. With fire.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

However, it is of great concern that you don't actually know the content of the ads you're shoving down our throats. Lack of trust growing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I love when squad comes through.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I hate that game of war ad that pops up and has a 5 second timer before you can exit it. Why does it have to pop up.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Thank you, I use this app during my workout sessions and it would override my music!

9 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 4

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

How do you use it when you're working out????

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

In between sets you take a 30 second break, I'll browse a picture or two.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Why do your ad partners not have better control over their ads. I swear the only place I get voice ads, and pop up ads are porn sites.

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 4

Wouldn't that be a question for the partners? Generally companies don't vet each ad, it's too time consuming and not worth the $$.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If you, as a company, don't know the swill you're spewing on your own site, you lose the trust of your customers/users.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That's not true. As someone who works in a similar field, I never held that expectation because I know the above.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Then you and I have different expectations. Also I despise overwhelming advertising with a passion. Popups, loudness, unrelated content...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Why are the ads even technically able to play sound if they're not supposed to? Why aren't they properly sandboxed?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, I don't work for Imgur so I can't really tell. This could be a feature or a bug. I would hope the latter?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The "sandbox" is the iframe the ad is in. :( Adding per-iframe muting is not going to happen, people don't realize iframes are a thing.
