Put my boots on one day w/o checking them first. Felt a pop under my foot after realizing I put my foot through a web. Problem solved.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yikes! That looks like a black widow. If a spider web snakes a snapping noise when you break if, be ware.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

What's this from? The style seems like boxtrolls but has to be someone's OC

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have two Black Widows in my work room...keep the place cozy and bug free. Of course one of them is in a motherly way...*looks at 2 egg sacs*

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is this Australia? It feels like it's Australia. It's Australia, isn't it?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Yep, I got bitten by one of them on my right pointer-finger last Sat. Hurt like a hammer blow, then itched for two days. Didn't die. :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or black widow spider here in the US....

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Or "Veuve Noire" in France. I think you souldn't check her wikipedia page, under "Range" chapter.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

New shoes, where dis?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Repost, not @OP's shoe

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Redbacks won't kill you. They'll just make you really sick and make you wish you were dead. Just take the hit and drink some concrete

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Not a redback its a blackwidows look at the positioning of the hourglass its on the bottom of the tail not the top also quiet small in size

Kind of like that ex you never really got over.

I saw the movie before I read the book.... they are very different...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Book any good?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the book describes a fascist ideal, only people who serve can vote. the movie tries to ridicule the book by turning it into an action plot

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How is that fascist?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

seems more like communism ideal\

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not quickly enough.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

to be fair, there probably would have been no danger as long as the shoe owner wasn't barefoot putting them on.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

pretty sure bugs bite through socks

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

pretty sure your standards for being 'pretty sure' about things are pretty low in this case.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

lol you think things cant bite through socks?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Things like mosquitoes with a proboscis maybe. Perhaps some tarantulas as far as spiders go, but black widows' fangs are far too small.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, that proud momma looks dead. Don't spiders die after laying their magnum opus?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope the mother usually eats male and carries the egg sack to a nice dark area and waits for eggs to hatch

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was Charlotte's Web just a lie then??

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, I kept a black widow in a terrarium for a couple years and she laid an egg sac like this and was just fine after.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Meanwhile in Australia

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Nah. I have them in my basement. They're really not that dangerous (although, they would be if they were in your shoe).

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thats a black widow they are extremely dangerous and highly venomous bites can be leathal good move on burning shoe check house for more.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rare that they bite humans, even more rare that they inject venom when they do. If it lived when you put your foot in shoe, it might bite.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

alright legend...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There are no black widows in Australia.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 17

Ahaha wtf, are you serious!!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

True but we do have other dangerous spiders

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

White tip...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Redbacks and Black Widows are pretty much the same, besides where the red is. They are cousins, but ours (Aus) is more active and potent.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'd take the "I'll just be hiding in this lost corner of the house and you'll never see me" spidey to the "FAQ YOU MATE, MY HOUSE!" spidey..

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As in pretty much all of the other ones ever

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mate. Red backs are everywhere here

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Til: there are spiders called red backs and they look similar to black widows.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Great. They're not black widows.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 12

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

you're right sorry all spiders are the same species

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

They are pretty much the exact same spider but removed geographically millions of years ago. Red back is slightly more potent.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

they're in the same genus but the species that has the red hourglass isn't the same as the redback species

Literally got a huntsman spider out of my boot this morning. Stuck my hand in there and felt him. Glad I checked..

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Why would you stick your hand in? Surely you'd shake it out first?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Of course. Shake, bump against the wall, then stick your hand in for good measure. Sometimes they cling in the toes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Huntsman aren't generally a problem to people though, am I right? They're just very big.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dunno, I'd consider something that makes me shit my pants a problem

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They will bite if cornered, but it will just be some local swelling and a bit painful at worst. I was more concerned for his welfare.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They may not have the venom of some of the more dangerous spiders but geez are they intimidating.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

^Good guy Aussie here. Look after the Huntsmans, burn redbacks, whitetips, etc.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Huntsmans and Daddy Long Legs are good spiders, redbacks I just shift out to the garden, but whitetails I destroy.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I need one of those spider eater creatures

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm surprised no ones said it yet but if that was a black widow your bearded dragon would be very dead.

9 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 9

Venomous =/= poisonous :D

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Most venomous creatures are harmless when ingested as the toxins are either broken down by acid or not absorbed by the intestines. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

2/2 That's why venomous things inject their venom directly into the tissue/blood stream. That said, you still shouldn't fucking do it.

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

I don't think it's a good idea to let your pet eat random bugs anyway. I'd worry about parasites or pesticide stuck to them from pest 1/

9 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 2

Yep def a redback spider, it concerns me u know a dif aussie spider but not the dif between the two? The first aid for each is different!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Black Widow, for anyone who is not familiar with spiders. One of the more venomous breeds.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Yeah. Red hourglass on black. Would have gone in with armor.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's a Red Back (if in Aus) I know several ppl who have been bitten by these, it's not too serious but u should still go get help

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

But You could be right if in America, they look bloody similar

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And I was all like "aww, but she looks so cute!"

It's a "Red Back" I know it's confusing cause the pictures aren't right way up but it's Australia for sure.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Lol at all the silent downvoters

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's no Redback. Black Widows have a clear red hourglass shape on them, Redbacks don't afaik?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is true. I would like a list of all of these places so I know never to go there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

was that an actual fucking black widow? Dx

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes, I see that. Hence the part where I said "and kill anything that fucks with them"

I found a spider in my shoe in the UK. Always tapped them cause my mum always said to and then 26 years later it finally happened

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There was a spider in it. I threw them at my dad and told him to deal with it ????

Not really taught, the only adults in Australia are the ones who learned how. The rest died young.

Not terribly. My parents have a wood pile though and sometimes redbacks like to hide there, and very occasionally a white tail in the house.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dont remember being taught but yeah when I find a redback I show my kids, also to check clothes on the floor and the bed for whitetails.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I still have nightmares about white tails and I've not lived in straya for 4 years.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Funnelwebs are hard to see too

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Are whitetails actually that bad? how deadly are they?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My uncle was bitten once. Their venom isn't too dangerous but the bites are prone to infection. Said his hand looked like chewed up bacon.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not deadly, the bacteria can create large open infectious wounds that spread around the bite and it eats the flesh... Search some images

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not deadly at all. Not poisonous. They pick up bacteria on their fangs from crawling around which often ends in Necrosis big time.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

In the south of the US you had better shake out your shoes or boots before you put them on. Lots of things like to climb into them.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This is why I'm glad I live here. We do stuff like putting our shoes on without thinking. I'd never survive in the south.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just move to the UK - it's easy to kill everything on an island so now theres nothing more dangerous than a slightly miffed duck.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

FUCKING SCORPIONS. My parents live in the Texas Hill Country in an area undergoing new development. They are taking refuge anywhere its dark

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can tell you from experience, this is real! San Antonio here.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We get them also here. Also once and a while you can find a snek in a boot but not that often.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope. I keep runners in my garage for when do gardening - every time I use them I stomp all over them & roll them up first for this reason.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that was a redback spider. our deadly spiders are better and deadlier than yours, take that

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

the spider shown is an american black widow, the red hourglass is on its BELLY not its back. but redbacks and widows are closely related.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's a black widow.. you can tell bcuz it has a hourglass shape on its back

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They are all around where I live. I don't mind them since they are calm and leave you alone if you leave them alone.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They seems like the story with almost all animals... Except Badgers.... And hornets.. fuck hornets

I admit I do strongly avoid hornets and would like be very active in avoiding gadgets ad well

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See them almost yearly on my farm on Vancouver Island.

I hope you live at the opposite end of the island sir/madam. I don't need that in my life.

They are in Southern BC, AB, Sask and maybe even Manitoba not sure of exact range

Its not a black widow its a red back. They only live in Australia.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

yes, but "It is a member of the cosmopolitan genus Latrodectus, the widow spiders."

Millions???? Ok well not moving to fucking british columbia

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

And this is why I live in the maritimes. No real danger here, except the fucking seagulls

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Where I live we have like three possible dangerous critters. Mostly snakes. If you go south there's the recluse and a northern black widow

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bar fights and geese.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...North or south BC? It's spider season again and I don't need to add fuckin BW's to my list of concerns.

Southern ontario reppin

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahhh.. I feel so un-conditioned living in southern Ontario, most everything you run into is just so.. Tame.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly there's not much to fear from black widows, they're shy and would rather run away than bite you. And a bite won't kill adult humans

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They only bite if they have no way to retreat, like when they hide in a shoe that you're trying to put on. Give them space and you'll be ok.

I've live all across the okanagan, and in my twenty years on this earth I've seen maybe 5 black widows.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in BC as well, right on the coast. Never in my entire life have a seen a black widow. Just these larger wolf spider things.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The wolf spiders in the lower mainland get HUGE. We have black widows up in the Okanagan

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well they've seen you

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Can be found in Southern Alberta also, rare, but they are here.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Same with southern SK, rare also, but I've seen them

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

We also have the brown recluse, so that's fun...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've yet to see either in 20 years..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And rattlesnakes for added pleasure.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh, how quaint. Do you know the other person who lives in Canada?
