Robin Williams taught me that no matter how amazing a person is you never know the pain and darkness in their true self. It makes me look at all aspects of life a bit differently.
I had a book about Koko when I was young that I read 100 times over and Mork and Mindy was my absolute favorite show when it was on the air. I can not see this video without tearing up.
Fun fact: The reason they met was that Koko loved the movie Flubber which featured Robin Williams. She even recognized him from the movie. Source: I saw a documentary about it where Koko's trainers talked about it.
Not so fun fact, Koko's "trainers" were little more than commercial publicity, koko couldn't speak/sign. It's not much better than the tiger king when you look into it.
My theory: Nothing happened more than 1/4 to 1/3 of your life ago.
If you idly think of a tv show or book or job farm far in your past, it will only feel about that old.
I believe that it’s because we change as we age, but less slowly over time. And when we think or feel about the past, we can’t easily move our mental POV back past a certain amount of change.
