You can't have a debate with someone whose opinion is ossified. You can sometimes break them, but they won't learn from it. They'll just resent you and find some other dumb shit to believe in. And it's probably going to be exactly the same as the last one, just with different names.
God, I talked to my mom earlier and it was basically this idiotic word salad and completely detached from reality. I asked if she would vote for Trump or DeSantis and she didn't even know who DeSantis was. So I guess there's some hope the vote will get split. She honestly thinks trump is a "godly, smart and rich man who wants to make America what it used to be" 🙄
That's a major problem for this country. If deathsantis is gets the nod, the Rs will vote for him because he has an R. They don't even know what kind of piece of shit he is. They also don't care.
This is the most accurate depiction of what Fox News tells people. Unfortunately, I know, because I've watched plenty of Fox News just to spend time with my parents when I drive 500 miles to visit them.
Unfortunately he’s pretty spot on for being a commercial pilot :( The industry is saturated with incurious reactionary dudes who’ve drank all of the Fox News kool-aid
The wild thing about that that 1.8 looks like a tiny number, but if you calculate 1.8% of the world population it isn't. Then consider how many countries don't keep that data, the debate of PCOS being an intersex condition, and intersex conditions that aren't apparent without genetic testing. That number becomes much higher and really shows how much even the "biological sex" they keep trying to throw down is a spectrum, not a strict binary.
He never even brings up the premise of genetics, though - because the argument of being XX or XY would be more robust, as that is something you can't change. The other genetic conditions you mention are pretty rare in the scheme of things, though - less than .5% at most. Trans people represent a much larger portion of the population than that, so their basis of their trans self isn't genetic, at very least not in sex chromosomes. Human sexual expression is greatly influenced by many factors.
That’s not a valid conclusion, though. “Genetics” involves a hell of a lot more than just straight-up chromosome combinations. That may be ONE genetic avenue to being trans, but there are many other plausible genetic causes beyond that, ranging from conditions around hormone production and uptake (or lack thereof) to epigenetic factors to possible brain structure and chemistry causes entirely independent from XX or XY (or nearly a dozen other combinations). Look up Swyer syndrome, for example.
We've never isolated even a set of genes that conclusively indicate "person should be trans" or "person should be gay", not even a solidly consistent set to support a genetic predisposition. That basically means any genetic influence is very widely dispersed in the overall makeup, and is quite nuanced. I'm sure factors like intelligence or physical coordination have similarly broad genetic influence, but not an absolute genetic makeup. Developmental & environmental factors surely matter as much.
A) Because genetics is VERY fucking complicated. We still don't know what 20-25% of our genes do AT ALL, much less all the various permutations that lead to different interactions and expressions. Hell, we know a subset of genes that contribute to it, but we can't even definitively say the full set of genes that cause eye color. B) We ALSO haven't found genes saying a person "should be straight." C) That knowledge gap is precisely why I used the word "plausible" and not "definitive." That's the>
amazing power of precise word choices! D) You have literally zero evidence for your assertion that "any genetic influence" would be "quite nuanced" other than your own personal incredulity and supposition. And why would you even choose to link trans to intelligence rather than say, eye color, OTHER than to draw your own forced conclusion? E) And here's the real stinker...while it VERY LIKELY IS strongly genetically influenced, why does/should it even have to be in order to be "valid" at all?
I'm sure you were aiming for a "gotcha" or whatever but In the context of taxionomy that's how it always work, if a human loses 4 limbs they are still labeled a human, even if the definition of human mentions 4 limbs its still considered one by association/past.
You don’t even have to go that far… we have plenty of people born intersex. Ask him what he’d call a self identifying cis gender man that’s XY but has persistent muellerian duct syndrome, so he has both testicles and ovaries, as well as a uterus.
Some rightwing idiots basically said this recently: post-menopausal women, with born unable to give birth, girls that are raped and cant' give birth, etc... none are women according to them
I got snipped - just striking to see dudes that wouldn’t undergo NON-invasive surgery to prevent their wives from undergoing invasive surgery- seems like a bitch move
Given that women (according to Repubs) only exist to reproduce, yes. Also once a woman goes thro menopause. I’m honestly surprised Repubs aren’t trying to institute a mandatory “retirement” for women.
Might be a good argument for getting them to vote for euthanasia. Of course, I suppose they would counter that those empty shells are needed to take care of the young’ns while they are pumping more babies out of their daughters.
If you're born with both sexes, what does that make you according to him? Do they know about animals/insects that can switch between both? Are they protesting about that too?
But..... wait for it......there are people who aren't born with clear male or female sex organs! There is even a sub population in the Dominican Republic that are born looking female but develop male sex organs at puberty.
Yes. But go a step deeper: that person won’t have testicles either, which means that (per this guy’s logic) they’re neither a man nor a woman. Ergo, this logic leads inevitably to the existence of at least a third gender.
no. that leads to something these people like to call "Untermenschen" or "Subhumans" so they can treat anything that doesnt fit their definition of "human" like an animal. this is how the fascist do. genocide is their goal.
Or subsets of different genders and then subsets of intersex people and then everyone is all confused. So, then we just treat people like people and don't worry about gender and sexual identity anymore.
