Texas has an economy that handles the ups and downs fairly well. Reason is we have a heavy immigrant work force that gets exploited. ICE isn't down here snatching folks, bc we're a res state. Immigration in itself is not a bad thing. The problems arise when you aren't selective enough. Sweden learned that the hard way among other countries.
The US does have a very strict immigration policy (visas being very hard to get, hard stay limits and the like). It is very easy to overstay your welcome and become illegal. At the same time the immigration policy is EXTREMELY poorly enforced so it's easy to slip through the cracks. the whole current ICE overcompensation is criminal
but as a lot of stuff in dumbfuckistan, the law makes no sense, creates artificial problems, then both sides of the political seesaw drag their own way to the extreme and the civilized world gets to watch a show that is so stupid it shouldn't exist...

For context, immigrants make roughly 15% of the population in the USA. They are a huge portion of several major industries, suburban and urban maintenance trades, nursing, and a gigantic portion of the nations tax revenue and population growth.
It was never about the economic impact it was about having an outgroup so the facists have a boogeyman. Even if that boogeyman is what actually kept our country from falling apart. We know it isnt about money because Donald trump is the president that has grown our debt the most. The Louisiana purchase was cheaper than Donald trump's presidency.

That was the mid-80s when we still kinda were. My wife and I are THOROUGHLY enjoying some trips to Mexico and loving the people there as well. I wish my countrymen were better humans.
