People attack Facebook for taking personal data is just stupid. Facebook has been doing this for years. Obama did it.

Who puts all their personal information on Facebook? I mean some people do, but they love attention anyway

"might have been"

Google is very quiet...because they are the worst offenders of all. They track you EVERYWHERE and aggressively market your data...

This was posted literally an hour before, and is also on the front page...

The thing is, why did you give Facebook all of your personal info in the first place?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Except you've been giving your information away In droves. It's not just Facebook it's the entire modern existence

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To find out that your friends are really upset or angry about someone, but they defintely don't wanna talk about it unless you PM them, hun.

Or to watch your friends go through a nasty divorce and put all their private BS on the internet.

I dont understand the issue with this. Do people sign up to social media and expect this not to happen? Why is everyone so surprised

Speaking of this, imgur also seems to collect a suspicious ammount of information on your browsing habits, just a PSA.

On the other hand, there's no porn here, is that information really that secret.

The 13 or so of us that never signed up for facebook are laughing so hard right now. Myself included.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, at this point deleting my account would be pissing into the forest fire

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

even if you delete your account they still keep a profile on you and just track you through ads and cookies.

What's weird is people think if they somehow pester Facebook to stop harvesting your data then EVERY OTHER BANNER AD will also stop it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is exactly why I don't have either Facebook or Twitter

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why all the information I submitted to Facebook are fake. Only my closest friends know that this account with fake name is mine so(1)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2) I don't get unwanted friends invitations from people I barely know.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That Hardly matters. All they care about your interests so they know what to sell you. It’s all in the code.

I only wanted a place to put photos from college...and here we are.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Funny how we pretend it wont again or didnt happen say in 2012 election.

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 5

in 2012 Obama campaign 'destroyed' all the data and in 2016 Cambridge Analytica did not and have been using as tool to blackmail. But ......

FB users ever consent explicitly their private data to be sold to others

Who cares?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't give _real_ info, especially not your date of birth and place of birth, they're facts you cannot change.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... unless you're POTUS ;)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly the internet knows so much about me I don't even care, I get mostly ads about things that I like so that's nice

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

BTW, we now have these extra small gay condoms you like so much back in stock. Wanna buy the usual amount?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just for me

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Letting Facebook know the city I live, where I work, where I went to school... not terribly private info.

If you don't pay you're not the customer you're the product.

8 years ago | Likes 232 Dislikes 14

Hey look honey, it's captain obvious!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

A fitting motto to remember in the modern state of increasingly predatory business practices.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Even if you're paying you are one of their products. Data is $$$. If anything your worth more as a paying customer.

In tech, if you pay for it, you're probably still the product.

I feel I'm out of the loop here. What did Facebook do?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

When is this going to stop being the top comment on every post about the internet?

8 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 9

When people post this instead /a/uAnhj

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

When it stops being true.
