Amazon's "THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE" was the best new TV show of last year that no one is talking about.

Because its on Amazon.com and not on Netflix or HBO its an underdog that doesn't get the attention it more than deserves. "THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE" was the best new show of 2015 and it's set in an alternate history where the Nazis & the Japanese won WWII and conquered America. It's one of the most realistic dystopian tales you will ever see. The writing is superb as well as the acting. This isn't a "shoot-em-up" type of dystopia. It's better. Since the Nazis are in total control they have already exterminated all of their enemies & undesirables. This means that there is no real resistance against them save a mere handful of people whose only real crime is thinking differently.

The writing for "The Man in the High Castle" doesn't offer simple nor easy solutions for us to view its villains. Because of its tactful teleplay the show allows us to sympathize and even possibly root for the Nazi and Japanese characters who are and work for their totalitarian governments. The reason? The Nazi and Japanese characters aren't one dimensional. They have self interests of their own. They are as human as anybody else, cogs in a greater wheel, run by higher people whom they work for, and for whom loyalty and honor are frequently on the line. What's surprising is that even in a World run by Hitler, there are those that have even darker tendencies than the Fuhrer. Thanks to good writing, the show toys with this relative notion of what is a good Nazi or a bad one. Our heroes here are couple of Americans, broken and defeated, whom have inadvertently stumbled into asking questions about a new & different world that is free from tyranny but the answers they discover are fleeting at best. This is a terrific slow burning but suspenseful story about the battle of ideas, espionage, & loyalties tested. I think it was the best new show of 2015.

@OP Just finished the last episode. Cant wait to see season 2

So it's Wolfenstein The New Order with no BJ Blazkowicz or Nazi robot dogs?

Not yet! Fingers crossed

I was so pumped for this concept but the writing/ acting was brutal.

It's from a book by Phillip K. Dick. The same guy that wrote, "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep", that went on to be Blade Runner.

9 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

In the case of Blade Runner, the movie is far superior to the book.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I big chunk of PKD's books and short stories have been made into movies.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't forget a scanner darkly and minority report

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Is it just me or was the show way better than the book?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Book was Average at best so that should not be hard

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The show was completely different from the book.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not just you, but not the average opinion either. Man in the high castle is considered one of Dick's masterpieces and won him a Hugo award

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Adjustment Beareau, Total Recall, and Paycheck as well.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Actually I think pointing those out doesn't help people understanding what kind of fiction Dick wrote :P

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was more pointing out that his stories have become pretty iconic in popular culture even though no one knows who he is.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This show requires an attention span, but is fantastic if you have one.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It was all premise but no substance. Very mundane.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I didn't enjoy the book so I didn't bother with the TV series

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You should know by now that book adaptations to TV and film always cater to a different audience then the book readers, try the Pilot

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

I'm like 7 eps into the first season and it's pretty meh imho

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

It gets slower in the middle but the ending really is worth it, the slow build to the pay off is great

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 26

CALM THE F*UCK DOWN PEOPLE! Everything OP says it's getting downvoted without no reason. Even if he says "Hi" gets downvoted? Seriously wtf!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Probably because op is a piece of shit that doesn't let people have their own opinions

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The reason why not many people talk about it is because it is bad.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

OP: "I like the show." Some ppl: "I don't." OP: "What's your reasoning?" (EVERYTHING OP SAYS FROM HERE ON OUT GETS DOWNVOTED!) Calm tf down.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

John and Helen are the only characters who actually do anything for me. I cannot stand Juliana.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Then ending though? How convoluted can you make an ending?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

that ending was awesome. what did you think was convoluted ?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 14

Although i enjoyed the show, after reading the comments, i sse that OP REALLY likes this show and REALLY dislikes differing opinions

9 years ago | Likes 317 Dislikes 12

Seriously. I've seen literal paid shills defend shit less vehemently than OP is this show.

9 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 4

Me after getting my check from AMAZON https://m.popkey.co/8ee5f8/3ez6q.gif

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

I went through and read his comments. They seem very innocuous and focused on defending the show rather than attacking people. I (1)

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

think the only people opposed to a differing opinion are the downvote mobs that don't want to read his counterpoints. I know I'll get (2)

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

downvoted simply for not joining in but you guys could really be less defensive. Saying "It's necessarily slow exposition" isn't hostile.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I only ask people to justify their criticism,

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 195

I only ask people to justify their criticism,

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I went and looked at those criticisms. All I see are people saying "this show failed to capture my attention or imagination" and you //

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

// telling them that the premise has never been done before and is inherently interesting, which has nothing to do with the simple fact //

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

// that it bored people.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I dun wrong

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Can you call it "asking for justification" when you're being a little hostile?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

They don't need to do that. You are not the show's protector.

9 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 9

"How so?" isn't a demand. They can either choose to engage in conversation or they can ignore the comment. What's wrong with him inquiring?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Because that's only the start. Then he tells people they're wrong for finding it boring or saying they must not have actually watched it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 45

lol. how ironic

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Would have been better made by the BBC in 6 episodes. God it was drawn out. I liked the premise, but even a movie might have worked better.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

it was a good show. but it could have been a movie

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have to say, I felt more in connection with the story of the infighting between brutal oppressors than the actual protagonists

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Likewise

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lots of people did. It wasn't that good.

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 12

Dude... people have opinions. Don't be a little bitch about it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I agree. It was alright

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the hell it wasn't. give specifics

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 53

It got really bogged down in the middle. Just went nowhere for about 3 episodes.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

That's it? I had the same problem but understood its slower middle was necessary exposition.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 34

The opening episodes and the closing ones are riveting that I didn't mind that it got slower in the middle because its build did pay off

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 30

...yeh but Lucifer didn't suffer from that

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

How can it be the best tv show of the year with only two good episodes? The middle dragged and turned a lot of people off.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

Did you actually see it?

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 62

He did.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

Watch the whole thing.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The fuck sorta dumbass question is this ya wankstain?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

This is THE INTERNET. You would be surprised how much people talk about something they've never seen ;)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 11

Actually we talked about it LAST YEAR when it was NEW.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No, it was not.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Post is weak, but the sentiment is correct. A lengthier post going into real detail would be a good way to show how amazing this show is

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I liked the show, but I like almost all historical dramas. I really liked 11.22.63. Can't decide which I liked more... (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Last Kingdom was really great too, and I don't hear anyone talking about it either (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TIL amazon.com is an underdog

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Mr Robot, The Leftovers, Daredevil, Stranger Things, River, and Sense8 are all great shows and all of them are faster paced than High Castle

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Broadchurch, Jessica Jones, Foley's War, The Killing, and Breaking Bad are slower but just as good. High Castle only has 1 good actor

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I loved mr. Robot. Looking forward to second season on HBO Nordic.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd say that Peaky Blinders is the best show nobodies talk about but, to each his own.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’d agree except I’m pretty sure people talk about Peaky Blinders. Awesome show tho in any case.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Peaky blinders is fantastic.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Actually the Left Overs is the best show no one is talking about.

9 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 10

I heard season two was amazing but season one was so boring I couldn't finish it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It was good for a bit. After a while I was just too confused to keep going. Hell of a sound track though. Maybe I'll try again someday.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fantastic show. One of my all time favorites.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love that damn show.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Season two was pretty damn intense

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The show is fine, but I can't see how such a small number of people disappearing could have such a massive global effect.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3000 people died on 911 and it has transformed the entire Zeitgeist. Imagine 2% of the pop.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but in the show, almost everyone lost 1 or more family members. I find that hard to believe if only 2% are gone.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did that get good? I watched the first few episodes of the first season and I was just like "OH GOD, MOPE HARDER."

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

It got incredible

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good to hear. I may marathon it at some point. I'm gonna have a lot of free time in the next few weeks.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know what was the best show that very few talk about? Justified. And now it's over and I'll never be ok with it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just watch the bridge with DIane Krueger. Its got that country feel... and Diane Krueger.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well maybe S2 , I hear, but S1 was too "ABC Family" for its own good.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 32

TMITHC only has one season so far, S2 will air later this year, but based on that alone I brought this up

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 18

There was quite the polemic advertisement campain in new york at the launch. Evryone talked about that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The concepts were stronger though, especially the sect stuff. Plus it set up characters solid enough to withstand a slow season 2.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Season 1 is solid in my book.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The comment section got me like

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

If I post that "puppies are cute" it will also get downvoted

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 12

Yeah man, I'm so sorry for all this dumbf*cks downvoting everything even your "hi" posts , so disappointed.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I thought it was boring and I really wanted to like it.

9 years ago | Likes 422 Dislikes 22

Yeah the pacing was long and drawn out. It wasn't compelling either. I really wanted to feel for the show. The idea is awesome! It's okay.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Me too and I thought the acting was terrible.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Thought the same

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I felt the same way. The marketing presented a thrill-a-minute alt history masterpiece but the plot makes slow, shambling progress.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you. Glad I'm not the only one.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Yeah a friend was watching it and we watched like 3 episodes and I literally fell asleep

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read the book and I literally cant remember half of it because it was so boring

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 4

I read the book, saw one episode and couldn't watch any more...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The book is the same. Boring then it gets neat

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Agreed

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Incredibly boring. Then I felt the "shocking Nazi" bits were thrown in and immediately forgotten. Kinda phoned in the whole thing.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It wasn't that much of a struggle to watch but the last episode was hurtfully bad. Investment vs return = nope.

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 4

Thank you! That's how I felt!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Really cool plot/universe. Inconsistent acting and BAD dialogue...

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

I mostly could only care about Rufus Sewells scenes. They were mostly great.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same here. I got three episodes in and gave up. It was on my list for so long too.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

I agree, watched the first 4 episodes and was so bored. Really didn't hold my attention

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I'm obsessed with the alternative history aspect of it, that's what's kept me watching cause it does feel achingly slow at times

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

do you know alternatehistory.com its the best site

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I also friggin' hate Juliana. She is literally the worst. At everything.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

RIGHT?! I think if I wasn't so consistently annoyed by her, her boyfriend, and Joe, I'd enjoy the show a lot more

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cheers to that, friend. I love the show except for the three out of four American main characters who aren't Nazis. How fucked is that? :P

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

seriously - my favorite characters have either been Nazis or members of the Japanese government lol

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I couldn't even finish the first episode.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Same here

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Ditto. It sounded so interesting I also really wanted to like it. But the characters felt flat and the torturings got so depressing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes the middle got a bit slow but it was necessary exposition. The opening and closing acts were riveting.

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 69

Besides the story is innately interesting, the very concept itself is crazy

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 46

Hey man, fuck those commie shitbirds. I liked it too.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

dude I have no idea what the downvotes are about. I thought it was slow, but I did really enjoy it overall. glad we'll see a season 2!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't know the show but I really can't agree with this. If necessary exposition is boring to the audience then you aren't doing it right.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

It's not that its boring, its just that its a complete tonal shift from the suspenseful start, but it still goes somewhere

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 21

You don't really get to decide what other people think is boring... it's kind of a subjective thing

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Game of thrones does it most seasons and they are doing pretty good

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There was alot of dull moments. The weirdest moment was when they tried to get us to root for Hitler though.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That was like the best part cause it was so brilliantly fucked up how they were able to do that!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Except Hitler wasn't that merciful or smart

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It is a fictional alternate reality after all

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

But then you're just invoking the shock value of a name to make a character more interesting

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

? Don't know what you mean. Hitlers role was like 5 min long & used for a great climatic scene

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2
