Strawberry Pretzel Salad...IMGUR normally hates everything I make so this is my last try to participate on here

May 3, 2017 9:25 PM

Edit - RECIPE -

Slice strawberries (or peaches, or raspberries) in quarters, lightly sugar and juice with lemon in a bowl. Set aside in fridge.

2 cups crushed pretzels...not disintegrated but broken up enough to be able pack firmly together, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg, 3/4 cup melted unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of honey or agave. Add chocolate morsels if you want. Mix, coat tall glass square pan, pack down, bake at 400°f for roughly 9- 11 minutes. Let cool.

Mix 8oz cream cheese with 1/2 cup sugar (a pinch of salt if you please, or not) with a mixer/beater. Mix in 8oz of cool whip or whipped cream and 2 teaspoons of vanilla. I would add a little vanilla bean if I had it. Set aside in fridge. You can also make your own whipped cream, like most people suggest, but I was already going in high and blind.

Add 2 cups boiling water to one large 6oz package or two 3oz packages of preferred (strawberry, peach, raspberry, blueberry whatevs) jello. Let come to room temp. (basically half the amount of water the box calls for)

Pack cream cheese whip mix onto pretzels, arrange drained fruit and press gently into whip mixture, pour drained fruit juice into the jello, stir and pour cooled jello gently all over, not staying in one spot or you'll drill a hole and the jello will seep all up into the crispy pretzels.
Refrigerate for 90 minutes to 2 hours.

crushed pretzels, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon

butter & agave/honey

Cream cheese, sugar, cool whip, vanilla

baked and cooling

Strawberry jello

macerated strawberries

I call this "stuff". It magically appears at all family gatherings, no one knows who brought it or what it is.

Are you from the Midwest? This screams Midwest.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Im not, a friend asked me to make something called a 'strawberry pretzel salad', told me what it was and here we are. Baltimore rep!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That looks amazing!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is my favorite dessert ever! Try it with raspberries instead. Sooooo good!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

+1 for pretzel salad. Everyone thinks it's the weirdest thing having pretzels in dessert but it's totally the bomb.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But it is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. And it's not even a salad. I'm so confused.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Don't overthink it. It is amazing!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Salad"

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Well if ketchup is a vegetable.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a cheese cake, but salad sounds healtier

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Other than your use of macereted, looks tasty!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Macerated....sorry for my stupid fat fingers.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But.. they are soaked in lemon juice :(

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My bad...looked like they were just cut up.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh i didnt show the step where I put them in a container with lemon juice and a little sugar, i thought I could get away with just saying it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only thing I hate about this post is that I'm not eating any of it right now.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get to eat it either...i got to try all the bits tho, and one with chocolate is coming

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven't had this in forever

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Thanksgiving. Every year or I am not coming. So good!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am learning this wasnt just a nostalgic request from a friend, its got roots

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Whipped cream is not that hard to make. Cool whip is disgusting. It's whipped sweetened Crisco. Gross. Other than that, sounds yummy.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Whats your whipped recipe/any secrets/advice I should know?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So? Cream is just silky cow puss?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And jello is boiled down beef carcasses? I don't see the problem with whipped plant vegetable shortening.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was asked to make this for a gift (i know) and have never made my own whipped cream, so baby steps

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I make a killer caramel maple whipped cream

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Personally i like my whipped cream with vanilla and a pinch of kosher salt, but no sugar. Experiment! But he is right, cool whip sucks.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ants got into my sugar so I used my fancy sugar, the granules may have been too much...i will try a pinch of K salt next time & OC whip!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dunno what this is but I'd put it in my mouth

9 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 0

It's delicious.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is so sad. Strawberry pretzel salad is a staple of big family get togethers, Thanksgiving just isn't complete without it..

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If more people had your attitude, the world would be a better place

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is my response to life generally

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's strawberry pretzel salad

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's what she said.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

That is, indeed, what she said

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I just learned its an Amish thing :D

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

This is a great recipe. Thank you for sharing!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think putting things in mouths are a universal thing :P

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Touche

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's the most midwestern dessert I've seen on imugr

9 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 1

Okay so as someone from the Midwest I've got to ask, what is it about it that makes it very midwestern?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A good example would be to watch documentaries on Amish cooking. No joke.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's got Jello as an ingredient and they called it a salad

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Utah is famous for jello salad. Jello in everything and everything in jello. No joke my gma put carrot shavings in green jello. "For color"

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I never meet anyone else who eats this! My mom always makes it and it's the bomb! Looks great! ????

9 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 0

This is my favorite ever! I thought I was alone in it too lol

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm just weighing to say that on first sight I thought no way, but this stuff is SO. FUCKING. TASTY. Super easy too! Great for summer bbq's!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes!!! Pretzel salad is the shit!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have good taste! Any advice from Moms version?

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Also if you are balling on a budget you can use a bag of assorted frozen fruit. Also, pineapple w/ raspberry jello is bomb

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My momma makes it too. Just keep adding butter until you die

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I use frozen strawberries to help the jello set faster. And make sure that cream cheese mixture creates a good seal so no soggy pretzels :)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thank you, as do you! And she pretty much does it the same, just with more strawberries that she kinda dices. So there's some in every bite

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My partner has celiac, diagnosed 30 yrs ago. Her g'ma made this for her all the time with GF pretzels-so yum! GF pretzels don't get soggy!

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Took me a minute. I kept asking myself wtf are girlfriend pretzels. I'm not that bright.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

You're not alone my friend

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good to know that there's gluten free pretzels! My mom is recently gluten free so it's been a new food adventure for me to cook for her.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ener-G brand was all there used to be, so we know those are good for this. Glutino is ok. Snyder's makes some now though!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's lots of GF food now. It's one of the good things to come from the GF fad; those w/celiac have a lot more options and food labeling.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There is a co in Cali that makes the best gf pretzels ever! Wish I cld member the name.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you call something involving jello a "salad" then you are DEFINITELY from the midwestern US.

9 years ago | Likes 838 Dislikes 6

i hate that shit and i am from missouri

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Michigander who has eaten many jello salads (including a variety of this one), I can concur.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's popular in the south east as well. I have an aunt who brings this to every family function we have. Quite tasty

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Trend breaker: Washington state. Though my moms family is from South Carolina

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was confused a moment on the lack of greens, thanks.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is a popular dish in nebraska!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is God's truth. I cannot upvote this enough.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They should do pineapple and lime jello next.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My gma made lime jello with shredded cabbage and carrots. Miss it, surprisingly good.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Michigander here. Can confirm.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's the best kind of salad

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or Saskatchewan

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

East coast too, in Delaware and people flip their shit over this like it's crack

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yea my mother makes this salad. It is the most delicious salad ever

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It is!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or the 70s

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you call something involving anulingus a "salad" you MIGHT be a prisoner

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or you're Mormon.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I was going to ask if op was Mormon.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha, Im not in the least, but hey, the more you know!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My first thought. I've got lots of Mormon family and this is every single ones line-up of "food"

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am learning so much today!!

9 years ago | Likes 146 Dislikes 1

I came to say the same thing! Definitely a stereotypical Midwestern dish you have made. I was certain you were Midwestern.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This looks really good, I hate jello, but I know my boyfriend would love this. I'm gonna try it. Could you send me the recipe?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Sent ????????

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As an Australian I was so confused by the salad with no vegetables in it.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Fruit salads are a thing. But this, this is no salad.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tbh I don't think you need to be Australian to be confused by this

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You are from the midwest I take it though, correct? :)

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Born & raised Baltimore, Md. A friend & his mom would have it in North Carolina every spring, his mom passed & he asked me to try

9 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 1

Eh... midwestern enough

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hi hon!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Let's go O's!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And make something called a 'strawberry pretzel salad'

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Im from NC and I could never get used to jello with salt and cinnamon.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also a North Carolinian. My family does a congealed salad with jello.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm surprised one of the layers wasn't mayo.

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

Probably was in the original recipe.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a dessert salad silly...

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If there is a thing that exists, Southern folks can and will drown it in mayo and call it a salad.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dessert, like pears with mayo, cheese and a cherry

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What pray tell is that conglomeration of sins called?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it's pear salad. It's bizarre, I know. Usually comes served on a piece of lettuce
