What games would an octopus like? Twister? Doing the Hokey Pokey? Idk.

If they lived longer, they would take over the world. Too bad marine biologists have such a short life expectancy.

Nobody is going to summon him? @TinyOctopus

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

That don't look so bad. You can hold my hand

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mom says it's my turn to post this next week. TintOctopus must be getting sick of being tagged in it ?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

:)

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are more intelligent than many humans. They have feelings. Needs. "Pay attention to me!" Octo probably

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

That octopus is pretty handsy!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know what it's like.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean if she's scrubbing my rocks off, it's only gentlemanly to return the favor.

As a dude with long hair, I want to learn how to do my hair like that, especially the braid in the water.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Where do I apply?

My irrational fear of them has returned.

There’s a book series by Adrian Tchaikovsky, where cephalopods become an advanced species. A very good series- highly recommended!

Children of Time series, sorry!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Average lifespan is around 4 years. Don't get too attached. Poor intelligent bastards.

3 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Oh no :(

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wonder what it would be like to live with an octopus in a house that was half tubular aquarium so the octo could follow you around at will

For real though ones that big are fucking terrifying.

3 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

What gets me is how dark the surrounding water is. Sea creatures would be less scary if you could see them coming. And get away quickly.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah right? Each of those arms is mostly muscle, that thing must be freakishly strong.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's what she said

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Thats a squid

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Yes yes. I know. I didn’t have an octopus one and this site loves tentacles. I add them when I can. Cheers love.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well unlike octopuses, squids actually do have tentacles

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Semantics. Unlike squids, octopuses only have one type of appendage, so there's no reason to care about what word we use to describe it

Do octopus bite?

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

No, octopus and spiders they byte.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

They can if they think something is food, or a threat. But normally, I don't think so. They actually taste with the suckers on their arms.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

They all have beaks.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

My dad was a scuba diver in the Puget Sound area with over 20 dives with giant pacific reds under his belt, and never saw a bite 1/2

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Worst he saw was one pulling his rebreather off, but it was very gentle and he was kind of ready for it and he just gently took it back.

Not a diver myself but by the way my dad described it was you can purge it using incoming air pressure and exhaling?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Theres usually a purge valve you push then ya do a forceful exhalation to blow out the water

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to work with a giant Pacific octopus. You need a spotter and a full face mask because they are strong enough to steal your regulator.

And curious enough to yank it off just to play with it.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I heard something a long time ago that if Octopi(?) were more social, they’d be the dominant species. Of course I have no sauce.

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably not quite dominant, but not being social, and having short lives does really hurt the potential start of octopus society.

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I think when a lot of biologists talk about how intelligent they are, they aren't clear that they mean relative to other invertebrates.>

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

>When compared to the whole animal kingdom they aren't groundbreakingly intelligent.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

they lack hands and proper out of the water features to rule the world

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Octopodes - Greek, not Latin origin

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Read like Antipodes? 'OcTOPOdees?'

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You need to read 'Children of Ruin'.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s sitting on my nightstand, next up after I finish reading my current book.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Octopuses

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Being underwater limits your ability to do alot of neat things, like purify metal ore in a fire, which severely hampers your development.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

There are of course, ways to do lots of things underwater, but it's unlikely you figure them out before doing them in air first.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Anything electric is out of the picture also, so that´s that...

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just steal it from the snails that live next to volcanic vents. What your society cannot produce, must be stolen from others.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have read it is also to do with their comparatively short life spans (3-5 years) they are very intelligent and curious

3 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Elephants are social and have long lives, but you often don't see them with 50" TVs and iPhones.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've read that it's because they can't operate 3D printers.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They're very intelligent for invertebrates, but in the grand scheme nothing amazing. I'd argue dogs, pigs, and many birds are smarter. And>

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

>they are nowhere near primates so I think the prospect of thinking they could be dominant is silly.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure they could be, wind time back hundred of millions of years, add a few stray cosmic rays - we can make it happen!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is really difficult to compare the intelligence of a primate and a cephalopod though. Even comparing intelligence between humans are iffy

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Okay, Mr. Dolphin. We believe you.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They also can't pass on learned knowledge to young. (One of our biggest strengths) They lay eggs and leave em to grow up on their own.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

This is a great pity; think how useful they'd be working in the engine bay of most modern-designed cars. Garages would love 'em.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Well now I want to pet an Octopus, they look fuckin adorable

3 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you go to a rocky beach in the Mediterranean and you're patient enough for them to get used to you, that's pretty easy.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Even if it was realistic to keep an octopus as a pet, they unfortunately suffer from the same curse as rats--an upsettingly short lifespan.

3 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

They also need a lot of attention or distraction. They get bored quickly and will eventually start eating themselves.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Well they said they want TO pet one, not keep one as a pet.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same reason I don't have an opossum. 3 years max.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Especially a bred female

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Think the male’s even shorter is it not? Stabs female with dick, wastes away;m; dies. Female lives a bit longer until Young are hatched?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure about the male, but the female obsessively tends to her eggs and basically starves to death. They've even tried taking away>

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Theyre also escape artists and need super sealed tanks

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I knew someone who had one, said it was like having a three year old. Intensely curious, and getting into shit. Octopi can get out of the 1/

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

water for extended periods as long as they stay wet, and will do so to explore if not sufficiently entertained/locked up. He said that 2/

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

his had a tendency to get into the pots and pans in the kitchen if left to its down devices. Unfortunately, it died that way as well. Got 3/

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

out while he was at work, went exploring, got lost, and dried out and died before the owner came home. 4/4
