Two weeks ago, while unloading one of our trailers, a kitten ran out and off into the store. No ideas where he could have gone. Four or five days later, a guest saw him run into our Starbucks kitchen. Finally! He’s in a controlled area for capture. I was able to corner and catch our kitty caper! He’s SUPER sweet!

When I caught him, he didn’t hiss or scratch or bite me. He was mellow, sweet, and loving. He snuggled up and was afraid of anyone else, who tried to come and pet him. I wanted this kitten! However, at this point in time, I wasn’t ready or equipped to take him home. To the Humane Society, he went.

Here’s his profile. My heart was broken - he was so sweet and trusting - and I left him somewhere that animals can be fearful of. My husband and I began looking into how we could bring this sweet boy home. After getting, what felt like, the run around - and not getting an answer to when he would be available. A co-worker reached out to a friend that worked for the Humane Society. And...

My husband and I adopted him today! I asked several cat owners lots of questions. What to expect, how to give proper care, and what supplies I would need. We are excited to add him into our home.

Within minutes of coming home - he was purring, kneading, and licking my fingers. This was awesome for me - someone who has never owned a cat before!

I was warned of the tempting belly rubs that cats pretend to want, but he LOVES it!!

More rubs.

Lovin’ the rubs.

We were worried about what our dogs would do. Don’t have to worry about the two Blue dogs. They are interested but are ok with leaving him alone. We did a test meet and greet, between a baby gate. Dogs wanted to smell, kitten wanted to hiss. We’ll try again later.

Red dog, on the other hand, is anxious, panting, and low growling. The temporary kitten set up until everyone calms down and gets to know each other, safely. (Two dog kennels wired together, with all the necessities inside.).

Sooo, I don’t know if this counts as getting adopted, but we made sure he was adopted! No name picked yet.

***EDIT*** Thank you all for the great advice! Any and all is truly appreciated. For the concerned minds:
-He was chipped and neutered the day before, at the H.S.
-We are taking the dog introductions slow - partly due to him still being fresh with stitches.
-We want to make sure we are correcting dog behavior and not punishing them for it.
-We are going to feed him Fromm’s Cat Food. (Our dogs eat same brand in dog food).

The names we thought of were more of how he got to the store, we didn’t think about where he was caught!

Names in the running are:
-Trip
-Wheeler
-Swift
-General
Buck and pumpkin have been added, thanks to you guys! I will make another post with update about dogs and which name was chosen.

Orange kittens are the best! Call him Buck.

cats often dont like their bellies rubbed because it is their most vulnerable part. Cats allowing bellie rubs is a sign of total trust.

You have red and blue covered, just call him Orange

Pet them all round, with the scent of the cat/dog on your hands, so they get used to each other's scent. Tell dogs no about hunting kitty/2

Staring is also not allowed. Dogs should learn that kitty is now family. It's not that hard to do. Put kitty up higher next time.

Congrats on your boy's Gotcha Day! May I suggest that you don't just feed dry food. Wet food and a fountain will help keep him hydrated.

My first kitty Seth stayed with me 20yrs but in the end his kidneys.... Cats can fight that, but they get most fluids through food.

Also, if he'll let you, start now with things like touching his paws and rubbing clean gauze on his teeth. Helps later grooming.

My mom says to call him Alex

Cats are amazing and pretty much teach you themselves :) I'm throwing the name Redford into the pot, after another gorgeous redhead.

My cat is named waffles!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Feed him mostly low carb wet food, dry food can lead to diabetes & potentially kidney failure.

He is adorable and that is freaking awesome. Good on you.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Name him buck after where he was finally caught.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

really wish I had that experience, my adopted cat has been hiding in the house for eleven days now.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Mine did that when I brought him in, couple weeks of it. He came around, and is very affectionate now. I hope yours does too, be patient

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Heelers too! What a great story!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have him chipped and spayed

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Better story than Twilight

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

If your dogs show no sign of hunting him and you make clear he is off limits (even staring at him should be corrected) 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Then you can save the baby gate. Even if he is hissing, he won't just claw their eyes out for being there. They should not be interested 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cause dogs that annoy cats get their eyes clawed...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Call him Starbuck! Congrats on getting adopted!

Yaaas. Tbh I would cause I love Battlestar Galactica. So it would be a two-fer name.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bucky, perhaps?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Call him Ishmael?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bucky would be my choice. Or Quill... that one’s a stretch but with Starbucks and all you got two marvel characters to go with lol.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or just name him Starbuck, after the pilot in Battlestar Galactica.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I saw someone else had mentioned it so I was trying to give other options :p but I like where your head is at!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yay!!! That's awesome!! One thing to know, don't buy Whiskers, fucked up my cat's bladder. Look into no grain cat foods!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Look into wet cat food with a high meat content, or even raw. They don't tend to drink enough water if feed dry

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Very much this. A bit hard food once in a while is good for the teeth though. Or special snacks that take care of teeth.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I give mine raw chicken wings for chewing, seems to do the trick

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I vote pumpkin or chai since you found him in Starbucks

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I vote for Chai!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I agree. I have a cat I adopted from the Humane Society and he is named Pumpkin, it's a great name!
