Some say that the white morph of the Grey Goshawk are the only raptors with pure-white plumage in the world (nonalbino). All I know is that they are pretty neat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Beautyful plumage (and yes, its resting)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So I was thinking. I wonder if birds can see further because of better atmospheric conditions looking straight down.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like if humans had better eyes it wouldn't matter because of atmospheric distortion at ground level. So really we already have the best eyes

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its the White Hawk, the end times have come and soon the last chapter of Berserk will be released.

"Ha Dee's a bird!"

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What evolutionary advantage does this provide?

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 4

Could be strictly ornamental birds are cray like that especially alpha predators

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not a every trait comes from selection.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I always mistake them for more common sulphur crested cockatoos at a distance. Maybe prey animals do too so don't run away as quickly.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some birds have pigments our human eyes can not see but to other birds they look an IR or UV color our mind will never experience.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Snow hawk

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

rich humans pimp you out as much as possible to sell your chicks.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Snow and cloudy skies

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It doesn't provide an advantage. Where this guy lives, he'll stand out in his habitat and be susceptible to predation by larger birds.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This one is artificially produced, as in selectively bred. Don't think the pure white morph is naturally occurring

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No it's not. Grey goshawk are Australian and the white morph is mainly wild in Tasmania

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Really? Pure white ones like this?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I see them at my parents farm in Tasmania, they're very cool http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/indeX.aspX?base=13530

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LOOK LIKE CLOUD. NO SEE IN SKY.

8 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 0

Damn it , I repeated that in my head with a horrible Native American accent

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

The voice in my head sounded vaguely Asian. How does that even happen??

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But what predator to this hawk, if it has any would also be able to go catch it in the sky? It would make more sense to blend in the ground

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they hunt from above, prey wouldn't be able to see it gliding down to catch them?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Clouds, light reflection, heat, heat, heat.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its white. Its got less chance of being shot for one thing

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

More whites are shot than other colors.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Proportionately?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

doesn't red eyes mean its albino?

8 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 10

Means it's a Sith

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Albinos have red eyes because they have very little pigment in their irises

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Which means the blood vessels in the retinas show through the iris. Goshawks just naturally have the pigment I guess

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't they be more pink than a deep red?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They would. With slight translucency

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Albino would not have the yellow break and legs

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

This. This is the easiest way to tell. Go you :-)

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yep yep yep

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think eyes affected by albinism usually have a red pupil not a red iris

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 4

Thought it was pink

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's somewhere in there. I wouldn't really call it pink but it's certainly not like the red shown in the post.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pupils are colorless because they are literally holes. They look black b/c the retina doesn't reflect enough light to appear colored.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I should have put the word "appear" in my original comment. I don't know the biology but albino pupils appear red.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's photoshopped

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

Its what now? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_goshawk

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Secondary source incase you dont like wiki: https://www.beautyofbirds.com/greygoshawks.html

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not the feather color, the eyes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"The white phase Grey Goshawk has a pure white plumage, reddish orange eyes, and yellow cere and feet." From that second source :-)
