Today while returning to work from lunch, I witnessed a man being violent and aggressive towards a woman.

I was driving down a pretty major road when I saw him hitting this woman in the face, punch her in the stomach and then try and drag her to his pick up truck in an empty parking lot. I immediately pulled a u turn and my adrenaline started pumping.

As I got to the scene I rolled down my window and told him to "let her go right now"! The man just tried to pretend I wasn't there and ignore me. I told him that if he didn't let go of her arm I was going to get out of my car and make him. He immediately let her go and started walking back to his truck.

The woman then told me " It's ok. No problems here please" she couldn't speak english very well and I could clearly see she was extremely scared. She ran after the guy and he handed her his purse from the vehicle.

At this point I called 911. I was placed on hold for about 30 seconds and then I explained the situation to dispatch. They sent out a unit right away I was told. As I waited for the police to arrive she just stood outside of his truck and he was yelling at her in Vietnamese. I didn't want to leave just in case he tried to hurt her again.

15 minutes passed and still no cops.... the woman then approached my car. She said "Everything ok. We just argue about something. Sorry to waste your time". She then hopped in his truck. I cautioned her to not do that and that she could wait near me until police came. She declined and they drove off....

The cruiser arrived just as they left. I flagged the officer down and told him they headed southbound.

This was the first time I've ever witnessed something like this and it was so sad. The fact that this woman would rather get into a car with a guy/boyfriend /husband that literally just beat the crap out of her then have the cops come and arrest him.

Spousal abuse is terrible and I feel for the victims going through it or have gone through it in the past. I wish more people would speak out against it. Far too often victims just hide it or pretend it's not an issue. Far too often victims know it's wrong but don't know what to do about it.

I made this post to hopefully bring some awareness to the fact that spousal abuse happens everyday and maybe help some people that are being abused to make the right decision and get help immediately.

TL:DR Today I saw a guy punch a woman, stopped him but she still got in the car with him and drove off.

I pity that fool and his poor wife.

Is that Rob Gronkowski????

One thing to remember is the victim knows that even if you protect them that moment their partner can kick their ass later in private.

My dad was driving home one night and saw a man beating on a woman, he pulled over and one punched packed his lunch, then called the cops

Imgur has ruined me. I went to check for tree fiddy once I saw it was a long text.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Good on you for trying. Most DV victims feel trapped in their relationship and are so isolated they are petrified of leaving.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was expecting tree fiddy

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Lol sorry if I misled you

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You meant to do it you slut.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The physical abuse is the easy part. The emotional and mental abuse is what fucks you up in the long run. I've been away from my ex for 8

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

years and I still can't date because I'm terrified it will happen again.

TL;DR yep that's what happens

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People keep saying cultural difference but it's socio-economic as well. Poverty, gaslighting, even the underground sex trade can affect this

You don't speak up because you think you deserve it, that no one will believe you and you're too afraid.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

DV survivor here-it's hard to explain what she was thinking or feeling unless you've been in that situation. Good for you for trying to help

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's why I'm a cop. Plain and simple.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thank you for your service. I hope you get to stop evil bastards like this.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

not gonna lie, it's a good feeling knowing that I can give a victim at least 24 hrs of peace.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please tell me you passed his plate number to the cops @OP?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. I gave a detailed report

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good to hear, hopefully it helps them track his abusive ass down. You did good!

Talking about domestic violence and you advertise it, well done.

I like my beer, like I like my violence. Domestic.

Too fucking soon!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I saw a man dead in the streets today :\

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I had to pull my roommate off his girlfriend once. He was choking her. It's not a good feeling.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is it just me or the guy in the picture looks like the alien from prometheus

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

100% does

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As someone who was being thrown to the asphalt and etc in a parking lot where tons of people were only watching, thank you. Felt so alone.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sorry you had to go through that

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Real talk, he tore her a new asshole when they got home. Good intentions, but she's his physical outlet of his aggression. Getting directly+

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

+involved like this will end poorly for the victim.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

I can believe this, if they got home. I'm hoping they were stopped before but who knows.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Right, but now you have to hope they got caught before they made it home and she got savaged 10000× worse because OP wanted to play hero.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so the only options are do nothing or kill the guy before he can do anything?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

You're an idiot. Call the cops discreetly and stay the fuck out of it. And then, if you actually care about helping victims of abuse, find+

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+out what kind of help your local victim shelters need to keep operating. Time, materials, money. But jumping into an in-progress incident+

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+like OP did is colossally stupid and can very realistically end up with the abused dead.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

right, so kill the guy before he can do anything, thanks for clearing that up.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel like this is an ad against DV. Which is nice. I would have taken a pic, especially if she was near me. Proof always helps. I had 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

A friend who was killed breaking up a DV fight. The woman sided with her abuser and accused him of starting with them. Some people SUCK"

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I couldn't take a pic as I was driving and made a split decision to help. I hear you though

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

@nombre11 Maybe there were kids at home that would be in trouble if she didn't go with the guy. Or she's undocumented. You did good though.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Let's hope not..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Let's hope.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit's fucked up. Dependency and gaslighting can do terrible things to people. I can't believe you didn't get his license plate number tho:/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh I did. I didn't mention in the post but I gave dispatch a detailed description of everything. Probably should have mentioned that, sorry

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Should've! That puts the ending into a rather different light. Well done, OP.

You did manage to take a really dramatic photo of it, tho

Should've taken a video and randomly yell, "World Star" then give it to the cops with the guys car plate number and face and everything.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

The Internet has consumed you sir

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

Strange that he was yelling in Vietnamese, but, well, when in Rome....

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Working in ER it was often a struggle to get women to talk with law enf. No matter how bad the abuse. It's sickening.

9 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 3

So true. And it ALWAYS escalates. CSI here. If you don’t want me to work your murder, get out after the first sign of violence.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The sad thing is many people don't believe they deserve any better so they stay.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I take it for men you didn't even ask, since there are no help programs that require it of you?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

There's always one of you.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I just don't understand the women who are getting abused and don't say anything. But I've never had to deal with it so I can't judge.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 4

Stolkhome syndrome is a thing, so there's that.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It happens a lot. There's a common cycle, I can send you some articles about it. 140 characters won't even begin to cover things.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

It's part of the abuse. Abuse occurs slowly and systematically, it's insidious.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who has been there it's impossible to truly decribe but it seems worse leaving than staying, and in my case I thought he loved me

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been in this situation and I can tell you that it's harder to speak up and change your whole life vs how easy it is to stay.

Plus you're at the highest risk of murder when you leave. Scary.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Ding, ding, ding & ding. Those are exactly right. Don't forget children too.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This case is a dilemma. She's likely here bc of him and if he's charged she'll likely have to go home. This is one of life's many grey area.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Thats what I was thinking too but I dont know what their situation is so I didn't want to just assume.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Abusers will tell you that they will kill you if you leave. At a certain point you won't have anyone, but them & you believe you deserve it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In Florida, if see this happening you can shoot the fucker.

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 10

For pity's sake, don't take any non-trivial legal advice from random people on the internet.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

Not true. You can't shoot someobe that isn't a threat to you regardless what you read on Imgur.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on the state. "Self Defense" is usually taken to mean "Defense of self or others"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I almost drew my CCW on a guy who was beating his wife in a parking lot. Fortunately the police showed up before I did.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude, should this occur again, don't draw your permit. Draw your gun... ;) ????????????

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I was planning on flinging it like that one dude who chops fruit with playing cards.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like fucking ninja throwing stars! Hell YES! Do that! ;)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

And prepare for a loooooong legal battle

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

In Texas too. You can use whatever force necessary to protect a third party person.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No legal battle necessary. In FL criminals have reduced legal rights.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

God this needs to be a thing ...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

It is, it's called jail you moron. After a trial. Where you have to prove wrongdoing.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Isn't Florida where a guy was following someone suspicious, got his head slammed to the ground, shot in defense, then his left went to hell?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Zimmerman shot a criminal, self-defense, game over.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Not quite. He intentionally started fight with an unarmed teenager and didn't shoot until he started losing.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

> tackle somebody for stalking you in a car for two minutes through your neighborhood, then chasing you when you tried to run away?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Allegedly. But, that guy turned out to be an asshole. So now we no longer question the case, we just use the victim's name for authenticity.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

And don't forget he's "white" *wink*.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

If you can legally shoot somebody you have never interacted with without warning for violence against a stranger, why can't you legally >

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

English isn't your 1st language, right? Then how is this any of your business?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

FYI op, in most places if someone is involved in DV, the authorities will press charges even if the victim declines.

9 years ago | Likes 489 Dislikes 3

if there's evidence, meaning they have to see it or the victim admits it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Most states require neither witnessing or admission. Any sign of violence, like bruising, welts, cuts, etc., is cause for arrest.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LEO here. States differ, but most dont require a victim to want to press charges. DV cases have their own rules. An officer just needs 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Probably Cause (i.e. a 51% belief that it did happen). Victims of DV often wont want to have the officer press charges. It doesnt take 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

much to notice when there has been a DV assault. Most department policies even have "an officer SHALL arrest..." when talking about DV. 3/3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Unless the abuser has lots of money and knows the right names to threaten the cops with when the victim calls for help.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In some states both people go to jail for the night, no questions.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you are really feeling brave and your country/state allows it. you can also make a citizens arrest.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a DV advocate at the national hotline, I know that's only in a few states. Simple guide: CA, PA, VA, states ending in A.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not in Texas

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Fuck Texas

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

I hope you got the license plate so the cops can track them down.

9 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Every detail was given so they have everything they need.

9 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

This is NOT always the case. For it to happen there needs to be irrefutable proof, or the victim needs to say something. Source: Lived it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True. Unfortunately prosecutors usually dont have a case without the victims testimony and cooperation.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

True. State pressed charges against me when i smashed a jager bottle over over my exes big dumb head.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mandatory arrest in some places if there is good evidence it happened. A witness is excellent as well. Good job, @OP

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I hope the officer caught up with them. At this point I don't know if I made it even worse for her. I hope she's ok...

9 years ago | Likes 202 Dislikes 1

Also update, because I'm curious

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should check the paper/police website for the report by the end of the week. It's public record so it should be somewhere.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the police will have a record of it happening, documented. it's a sign to her partner that people won't put up with it.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

That means jack shit most of the time. A friends dad was arrested several times for beating on his mom. Nothing changed. 1/2

Finally stopped when my friend snapped and beat his dad to death. 2/2
