This is "Cat" on a cold October night, my neighbors picked him up awhile ago. In all the time they had him I never saw them pet him, they never let him in the house, they never said a kind word to him. Yet every day cat would sit on their porch and stare at the door waiting for some friendly interaction. He was loyal if nothing else.

I went to Walmart in the middle of the night and bought some things so Cat would have a place out of the elements.

Success. Hey little buddy.

Eating the food I left out for him.

There we go, nice fresh water. You can tell by the ear that Cat has gotten into some alterCATions.

Ohh that's not good. This was right about the time that Cat's owners literally kicked him off their porch like a football and moved away. All on his own with an injured foot in winter. Not good.

Meet Frank. I mean now that he's abandoned (more abandoned?) If I'm going to take care of him he needs a name. So Frank it is.

At the Vet.

Oh jeeze nap time, it's taking too long for the emergency vet to tend to Frank, he fell asleep waiting. Emergency vet suggested snuffing him because "why patch up a feral?" Okay lady...

Frank on his way to his primary vet for vaccinations, testing for FeLV, FIV, and other nasties. And to get that paw taken care of.

Why hello there! My father-in-law's hand makes a cameo appearance.

Frank's paw was still bleeding a bit. In the end he passed all his tests, got all his vaccinations. He had worms and he needed surgery on the paw buuuuuuut ...

He got to experience a cat bed, cat toys, cat nip, and other cat stuff for the first time in his life. The vet estimates that he's at least five. That's a long ass time to be a cat without love and fun cat stuff!

He does make getting anything done a bit of a chore, but we love him and he's happy.

Still hasn't really figured out all the cat stuff though. He's a pretty sweet cat. And he LOVES the dog. So that's awesome. I'm sad that he got treated so poorly, and that he got kicked and abandoned, but I'm glad I was able to make his life better and that's just about the best Christmas present I've ever gotten.

Edit: You guys and gals are incredible. Thank you for all the kind words!! Oh believe me I've left reviews about Dr Gritzmacher and the entire experience at that veterinarian's office for other people thinking about going there. Bleh! As I type this Frank is sitting in my lap and purring contentedly. I hope you all have a happy holiday season!

This is heart-warming, now it's time for the kitty to kick those assholes in the nut who left him in the cold x(

You are a good human. Thank you.

That first vet you saw is a cunt. I don't know why people like her even bothered becoming vets in the first place. Good job on saving Frank!

You are my hero and I’m not crying you’re crying.

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

You might not be crying, but I sure am. But I have been drinking, so there's that.

My recommendation for Frank is Temptation treats, and a nice cardboard box. My kitty loves both. :)

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Oh yes Frank loves boxes and temptations treats. So far he's enjoying all the kitty luxuries haha

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hurrah for Frank! :D

Your Frank is a beautiful kitty!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you for taking care of this kitty. It breaks my heart that people don't take care of their animals.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I love you, I love Frank, and since when is an abandoned cat a feral? They don't go feral within a day. Hope you punched that bad vet

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Do you know exactly what was wrong with his foot

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The pad was lacerated and all the fatty tissue became swollen and ended up on the outside the pad.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

There was concern about infection and losing the entire foot but the vet was able to save the foot. :)

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

looks like he's enjoying his new forever home. good work @op!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why patch up a feral? Why are you a vet, lady?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hi Frank! Similar story about a cat named Cat. He's now named Hobo & has spent the last 12 years living the cat dream!

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I’m not crying, you’re crying. Thanks OP for taking in Frank and giving him a better life! My rescue cats rescued me. Good luck!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why. Why the actual fucking fuck do people get pets just to ignore them. What's the point?

8 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 0

Or worse, treat them like second or third class possessions.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't understand it either. People can be so awful at times.

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Like, unless they picked it up off the street or stole it, they PAID some sum of money to just let it die. It's lose/lose.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

How long did the shitty neighbors live there? Could Frank have belonged to the former tenants maybe? (Could explain their ambivalence?)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly the one time I ever talked to them they just referred to Frank as "yeah he's our cat." Never saw him before they showed up.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

SAD! You're a good person for taking him in and giving him love!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good work @op I currently have 4 cats, all being cats I rescued from abandonment and being euthanized. It's a great feeling

8 years ago | Likes 260 Dislikes 0

I had 2 rescues, my girl had 2 rescues, now we live together and have 4 rescues making simple chores harder for payment with purrrrs.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have 2 cats, both just sort of wandered into my house or porch, about a year apart. Never intended to have cats, loved them immediately.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A great feline?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nice

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It really is. It was after Frank was safe and warm that I cried, I was just so overwhelmed at how good it felt to improve his situation.

8 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 0

My current baby was taken in off the streets by bad previous owners. He's so loving

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't worry, Frank will give you unconditional love forever in return. :)

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Best part is, they improved your life as much as you do theirs

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

I'm proud of you OP. You made the world a little better. This is how we make the world alot better. Good job. Frank is a lucky cat.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

He’s so handsome! I’m so happy that he gets a new loving home. The cast is too cute! Good on you for being a hero!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The first cat I rescued was sixth grade. We found him after my first junior high open house. He was patchy, missing hair, and...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

...his meow sounded like a rusty chainsaw. His whiskers were crinkled but he was the friendliest scraggly cat you ever did see...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

...we threw him in the back of our car and took him home, where my mom set up a heated bed and food and water in the garage...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

...we couldn't let him inside because our cats would riot (he did sneak in once) but he was happy. I would go outside and sit down and...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

...he would come up to me with his gutteral, friendly meow and clamber onto my lap and sleep with his rusty purr going full throttle...

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

...he was really old. We didn't get an estimate but that guy had some years on him. I couldn't imagine the life he had lived, and he was...

What kind of shite vet suggests Euthanasia for an animal with treatable issues. Thanks for ignoring that bit of advice OP. You did good.

8 years ago | Likes 290 Dislikes 1

I went to a vet that suggested it for my year old kitten because I told her I might not be able to afford the bill. I drove 400 miles 1

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

to my old vet in Los Angeles. He said she was fine and didn't charge me for an office visit.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"So your dog seems to have a cold. I can fix that for you. PERMANENTLY!!" - asshole vet

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

My old vet told me my cat wouldn't survive giving birth, best to euthanize her. Dropped that bitch, got a new vet. Cat's healthy 8 yrs on.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

my parents have an epileptic dog; vets always tell him he's living a compromised life cuz of all his meds so they should consider it. That

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

damn dog sleeps next to my mom in bed every single night and always gets to curl up on his fav side of the couch. he's a golden retriever

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

so if he's sitting i have to be on the floor. dog lives a better life then most dogs i know that's for sure. vets can be weird.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I definitely won't be taking any animals to that vet again.

8 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

I'd leave reviews of the vet anywhere you can too. No telling how many lives you could save. Great work, OP!

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Also one that seems very obviously not feral...

8 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 0

Actual feral cats are quite dangerous and would have been climbing the walls to escape What made a vet think this guy was feral is beyond me

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It was pretty terrible, she kept calling him feral with disdain and acting like he was the most filthy vile thing on the planet.

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

I would have put Frank back in his carrier and left. No words, just pack up & leave

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Name and shame, OP. It's horrifying and infuriating.

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

She sounds totally cold hearted. He seems like a wonderful kitty.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Name, shame and file a formal complaint with the college of veterinarians. Also write reviews EVERYWHERE

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I'm not a fan of name and shame but this is apt. That attitude will affect the care given, so you should deffo let people know

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What a cunt!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you can physically touch a cat, it's not that feral. If it lets more than one person touch it, it's extra super not feral.

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

It's just a stray, or a barn cat, or in this case, and outdoor cat. Feral cats are like wild animals, but many can still be tamed.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I mean, there was an emergency vet that kept telling my mom their cat was too weak to take blood from yo test him. 1 month of suffering (1/?

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

From slowly collapsing lungs due to a resperitory infection gone wild due to FIV, my mom finally takes him to the vet I used, they took (2/?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Blood and yep, FIV real bad, lunch collapsed, had to be put down. Mom's boyfriend still mourns that cat and I LOATH that vet for what (3/4

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I made myself mad remembering this story but I kinda laughed at my phone fixing my typo'd lung to lunch. Now I'm just confused.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

They did, but hey, they really wanted that 3 grand they leeched from my mom and her boyfriend.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I'm really sad and really mad for that poor kitty. I'm sorry that happened

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why be a vet if you're gonna be like that? I hate snakes, guess what I didn't study in college

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I HATED when I got her. She was just, an awful person.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol. I really don't understand it. Honestly of the two vets at the one I used, one didn't seem to like animals and had zero bedside manner.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Had you been using that office before Frank?
