I can't pay my bills with IOUs unfortunately. Hard to get a 2nd job when already burned out from working 60 hours a week.

Looks like a new clause for the next union agreement. If a paycheque does not come when it’s supposed to, you are to cease worth immediately. When paycheques resume pack pay is to be payed before work resumes.

They'd cripple the country if they all went on strike. Even if a pile of them were replaced, those guys don't have the experience and many people would die.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm flying tomorrow and very nervous.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was living in California several years ago, when the government there was broke, and was issuing IOUs to cover its debts. A small business person owed some tax, so she gave back the same amount in IOUs the state had given her. The state was maaaaad, but it found zero public support.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's almost like maybe we should overthrow the government

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Let it get bad. We need it to get alot worse before people wake the fuck up to whats going on.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly I think these people are stupid. F****** band together and walk the f*** out. I'm not doing my job if you're not paying me a salary. That's called slavery

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Not to scale

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m sure it has got to be much higher than 5,000 no…?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This fills the airspace

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's these things called strikes. Not gonna get paid either, but it sends a pretty strong message IF YOU ALL BAND TOGETHER.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What cood posiblie goe wrung ?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It would be easy to organize a general strike to add legislation to fire senate and congressmen that do a shutdown.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No one should not get paid for any work.

5 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

So.. by the transitive principle... someone should get paid for all work?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the land of opportunity how come none of the "they took our jobs" people are applying for the job?

5 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Because the only jobs those morons are qualified for involveq sweeping floors or shoveling shit

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its not a job the average person can qualify for but the biggest issue is there are not enough training slots available to fill the gap. They did recently authorize a new training school

5 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

We were actually flying across the country the week after the government shut down. Our only saving grace is that the air traffic controllers were yet fully disheartened at that point!

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So whenever they all start colliding in midair and falling out of the sky. who will let us know? Who, indeed?

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

CANCEL VACATIONS !

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In addition to every other reason out there...
I'm semi forced into a work trip with a flight in a few weeks. I'd be incredibly happy if they had to shut down (or even significantly delay) air travel before then.

I'm definitely not eager to get caught out of town when things shut down though. It's a fairly big anxiety issue for me right now.

5 months ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 4

Afraid to fly because of a lack of air traffic controllers seems like a fairly legitimate reason to not do it.

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm flying back from Europe next week. I hope.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Good luck to us all

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Reserve a rental car now just in case. You can always cancel it

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I agree I was going to say car. Loger and a pain in the ass but somethin.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would hope they’d announce it a week in advance

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My plan was always FLY outta here. Guess I'll swim?

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Might be the best option

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was also part of the plan, to trap many ppl

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So far, the border trenches to the north and south aren't dug yet

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I watched breaking bad, I know what happens when these people are stressed and not at the top of their game.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No pay = No work or is this illegal in the US these days.

If Employees Don't Show Up To Work, Then Companies Can't Make Money.

Hi fellow air traffic controller!! At least we got a nifty letter to give our creditors

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Best of luck! Stay strong and ee believe in you!

I remember how quiet the skies were. No trails of condensation, no roar of far off jets. Was wild.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

9/11? Covid?

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Perhaps night?

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

what it will be like when all the air traffic controllers stop going to work ( but yes its 9-11 ;)

5 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

If the damn logo hadn't been put over the time stamp we would know.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

how did this not simply shut down all US airports?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why I don't blame the controllers any time there's an incident. Every time I've had to go into the ATC Tower, they've been at around .25-.4% manning. They all are insanely stressed and trying to do the work of 2-4 people. Lacking personal will always result in a problem eventually.

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Not to mention that some of the equipment they are using is in service since the 70s.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.4% is the same as 1 in 250. I guess you meant 25% to 40%.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The last time the air traffic controllers protested and shut down the airspace, the government ended the shutdown. Maybe do that again

5 months ago | Likes 550 Dislikes 5

And in the 80s Regan fired all of them and fucked the security of our airspace permanently.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TSA should walk out with them.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And how did that work out?

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

if they do,hopefully the community supports them and not let what Regan did to the air traffic controllers....

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

On one hand yes, on the other we are still reeling from the shutdowns that Reagan caused even all these decades later.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks to the Gipper.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

....and fired thousands of them; creating an industry labor shortage that has persisted to this day. As usual, thank Ronald Reagan.

5 months ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

A lot of them became sick all of a sudden. However, the US health exploit systemis a great way to prevent that from happening. I bet doctors charge an exorbitant sum to certify you are unfit for work.

5 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I think they charge the same amount as any other visit. Which is exorbitant but probably affordable for someone with an air traffic control job and health insurance. And most doctors are lenient about giving patients work excuses. I’m pretty sure I could make an appointment with a made up malady and get my doctor to sign a note saying I should be off for a few days. I don’t think I could tell them it was fake but if I lied halfway convincingly they would go with it. They owe my employer nothing.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And the beauty is, air traffic control work is a stressful job requiring good concentration skills, so really all you’d need to say is that you’ve been feeling stressed out, describe some stress symptoms you’re probably actually feeling, and possibly say they’re making it hard to focus or you’ve been dealing with brain fog and that would be enough.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Slight correction, they called out of work saying they were sick but it may have been a form of strike

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just need selective ground stops for staffing. Shut down Teterborough, Van Nuys and DCA. Inconvenience the rich and the politicians, and watch how unimportant keeping the Epstein list hidden becomes

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

General strike..

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Never going to happen. Too many people can't take a single day off, let alone the weeks required to effectuate change.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not saying youre wrong, but that's why you join your union and pay your dues; so you can set up strike funds.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The even stupider part here is, they won't get back pay. This is for free, the entire time, whether government opens tomorrow or 2 months from now. Stop thinking you dont have power and take a stand.

5 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Not necessarily true. Trump has said they won’t get paid, but the law says they will (at end of shutdown), and he can’t change that by executive order.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

SCOTUS says anything the President does is legal, and the executive branch has the discretion of which laws to enforce.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Im sorry were you in a coma until yesterday? Who the fuck cares about laws? So what, you win in court. Who will force him to pay? They're draining any and all accounts to give to themselves and the rich. THEY. WILL. NOT. SEE. A. CENT.

5 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

they will make them fly without ATC to tell them what to do because corporate dosent want to lose money on keeping them on the ground. how many will die?

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They won't. POTUS has decreed no negotiation.

5 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

When Elon and bezos can't fly because atc ain't threre to open the air spaces, things will change

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No need. They'll just all be sick. No reason to negotiate anything. Cough, cough.

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

No. They made it illegal for air traffic controllers to not show up, despite not being paid. Anyone that didn't come to work was arrested.

They did the same thing when air traffic controllers tried to strike for better working conditions and more staff. The federal gov't declared them to be essential to the operation of the country, and arrested any air traffic controller who tried to strike.

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Seems counterproductive to arrest them for not showing up for work... by making them unable to show up for work...

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They didn't, and don't, care if it's counterproductive. It's to scare the rest into doing what they're told. All they have to do is arrest a handful, and everyone else will toe the line for fear of what will happen to them in the long run.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Didn't they make it a crime for federal employees to protest not getting paid?

5 months ago | Likes 187 Dislikes 1

It’s was illegal to download grand theft auto on my pc when I was 12. But it was definitely the right thing to do

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tell me again how slavery was abolished in the US except as a crime?

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They did, and then he said that some people don't deserve to get paid. When ask why by the press, he said to "ask the Democrats." He keeps using the 'other side' as the blind scapegoat for everything fucked up that he decides to do. Meanwhile, democrats went on TV and declared that the law explicitly states that all federal employees must get paid no matter what.

5 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Strikes are effective regardless if they're legal or not, that really shouldn't be stopping anybody.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They didn’t hold a traditional protest, they just all called in sick, which you can’t make illegal.

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In some ways that's just an acknowledgement of the power of a strike in those fields, and forgiveness of the policy violation/removal of said policy from the law are absolutely terms that could be part of the demands of such a strike. Doing so would be a gamble on whether the gov would come to bargain or cut off their nose to spite their face, but in a desperate situation where half the cost of a strike (not being paid) is already being forced on ATCs they have a lot less to lose.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I find it crazy that you can make it a crime to not go to work for not getting paid.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

While paying those that made that law.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats why they need the ability to protests, that's why they need to protest, they can't even easily be replaced. We need to support them and feed them even if the tried to arrest those ppl we need to protect them and do a strike.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Who fucking cares. Just every single Air traffic controller in the country pick a day and dont show up and the Government is done for

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What are they gonna do fired them?

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IIRC a few essential types of government employees aren't allowed to go on strike. Air traffic controllers are one of them.

5 months ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

The republiturds aren’t playing by the rules, why should we?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's so unhinged. Not allowed to go on strike. Strikes are SUPPOSED to disrupt things and grind it to a halt. Fuck em

5 months ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

well what can they do about it if all of them quit?

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nonetheless, once controller absences start grounding private jets, and the owners of said jets call their congress critters, things will get ironed out pretty quick.

5 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

IMO it's not a strike if you're not being paid. It's just doing what you're being paid for.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So, what they're gonna do? Shoot them all for not working?

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And trump's not allowed to demolish the East Wing.

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Then go on strike, make them throw you in jail, and try to train replacements.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Then how about paying them rather than congress/senate whoever caused the shut down?

5 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I really don't understand what they're gonna do if a bunch do go on strike. Not like they're easily replaced and it's unskilled labor and it isn't like they aren't needed. Saying that they can't do that feels a lot like telling Trump and co that he can't do something. "Who's gonna stop me?"

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Because reagan. Literally.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just call in sick.

5 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yeah well we also weren't "allowed" to dump a bunch of tea in a harbor or declare ourselves a sovereign nation, free of the British crown. Progress isn't made by following the rules

5 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Especially against a foe that ignores the rules themselves. It is never moral to wage war morally with an immoral opponent.

5 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Trump doesn't care about the law, so why should we

5 months ago | Likes 210 Dislikes 2

Exactly. I've been saying that the Constitution is what creates and legitimizes the office of President, so when we have a president who shits all over the Constitution, he nullifies his own office and removes any legitimate reason anyone should have to do what he says.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Terrible thought the other day that I had was imagine 9/11 was a much more organized thing. A bunch of planes could have been hijacked across the whole US and slammed nearly simultaneously into every state and federal government building nationwide.

5 months ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

That's one of the reasons it was such a big deal, cause it showed how vulnerable we really were, and still are.

5 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

TSA hasn't done shit, and have a 94% fail rate. Amd those dumb cunts revived the Patriot Act when it was supposed to expire.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Forced 60 hour work weeks for no pay sounds an awful lot like slavery to me, and THAT is a protest worth pushing.

5 months ago | Likes 139 Dislikes 2

didn't you know? republicans are allowed to own slaves again

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

here the aircontrol personnel works two 2 hour shifts at the tower, and two 2 hours desktop, for other, administrative stuff. Max 8h/day max 5 days a week. Technically doing 37,5 hours a week + 30min lunch, wich is not paid = 8 hours a day.

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Fuck unpaid lunches.

5 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Reagan made it illegal for air traffic controllers to strike. They are legally classified as slaves, as they cannot stay home even if they aren't being paid.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Holiday coming up. ATC will likely get a bonus or deferred payment. Lots of Republicans need to travel home and holiday clan meetings.

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I would happily support a mass walkout of ATC. Just stop allowing takeoffs until everyone is on the ground at the nearest airport, then walk out.

5 months ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

Pilots are highly overworked as well, bet you could easily convince them to make emergency landings at the closest airport if you told them why they needed to. I'd hate to strand Joe Schmoe at the Bumfukistani Regional Airport, but *someone* whose money is louder than his will also be stranded. That kind of noise would fix shit quick.

5 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I'm 100% for giving pilots a break due to no ATC so they can't fly. Unfortunately, that would certainly furlough them. Not that ATC isn't effectively being furloughed already of course.
