25 Really Creepy Unexplained Photos

When a telegram arrived for a woman named Mary Reeser, in 1951, her landlady attempted to open the door to her apartment, but found the handle to be uncomfortably warm. She called the police, and what they found inside shocked them. Her apartment was completely intact, but she was just a pile of ash, excluding her well preserved leg and slipper. Her skull had been shrunken to the size of a teacup. The photo still has forensic investigators scratching their chins to this day.

In Germany, 1922, the murders of six people at the Hinterkaifeck farmstead shocked the nation. This wasn’t just because of the gruesome nature of the case, but also because the case was so incredibly weird, and it remains unsolved to this day. Over 100 people were interviewed in the murder, but no one was ever arrested. No motive was ever established as to explain the murders. The previous maid had left 6 months earlier, saying the home was haunted. The new maid arrived only hours before the murders. It is believed that the perpetrator(s) remained at the farm for several days – someone had fed the cattle, and eaten food in the kitchen: the neighbours had also seen smoke from the chimney during the weekend. This photo depicts one of the victims as he lay in the house barn.

The Phoenix Lights were a series of widely sighted unidentified flying objects, seen by 1000s of people, observed in the skies over Arizona, Nevada in the United States, and Sonora, Mexico on Thursday, March 13, 1997. There were allegedly two distinct events involved in the incident: a triangular formation of lights seen to pass over the state, and a series of stationary lights seen in the Phoenix area.

As the Cooper’s move into their new home in Texas, they take a photograph of the family sitting together, but as the photo is taken, a body can clearly be seen falling from the ceiling.

This photo simply shows a group of four kids posing for a picture, however, there appears to be a mysterious thumb next to the kid in black on the right, that does not seem to align with anyone’s body. The OP of this photo says he has no idea where the thumb could have come from.

People believe that this photograph, taken in 1941 at the re-opening of the South Forks Bridge in Gold Bridge, Canada, is depicting a man in seemingly modern dress and style, with a camera that is advanced well beyond its time.

Legend has it that in orbit around the Earth is a mysterious, dark object which dates back perhaps 13 000 years. Its origin and purpose are inscrutable, dubbed the “Black Knight” this elusive satellite has allegedly been beaming signals towards the Earth and inspected by NASA astronauts yet only a few on Earth officially know of its existence. The origin of the ominous name is part of the enigma; it is impossible to discover who first called it this or indeed why. Humans have only in the last 60 years had the technology to launch a man-made object into space so what is the logical explanation for this mysterious satellite.

In these two photographs of the gaping hole in the South Tower on 9/11, you can see a woman standing on the edge of the hole waving. Her name is Edna Clinton, and the mystery many people say of these photos is that she actually was a survivor. People inquire how she was able to survive everything that happened at that location, then go on to make it out of the building.

In 2000, two photographs said to be of the Skunk Ape were taken by an anonymous woman and mailed to the Sarasota County, Florida, Sheriff’s Department. The photographs were accompanied by a letter from the woman in which she claims to have photographed an ape in her backyard. The woman wrote that on three different nights an ape had entered her backyard to take apples left on her back porch. She was convinced the ape was an escaped orangutan. The pictures have become known to Bigfoot enthusiasts as the “skunk ape photos.”

This painting is called “The Madonna with Saint Giovannino” and it was painted in the 15th century. Above Mary’s right shoulder is a disk shaped object. Below is a blow up of this section and a man and his dog can clearly be seen looking up at the object.

In 1964, Jim Templeton was in a marsh taking photos of his young daughter and after getting them developed there appeared to have been a Spaceman in full astronaut gear standing behind her. Except there wasn’t anyone else around while they were there. Even Kodak verified that it was not tampered with.

The Falcon Lake Incident is a reported unidentified flying object (UFO) encounter near Falcon Lake, Manitoba, Canada claimed to have occurred on May 20, 1967 by Stefan Michalak. He had had taken a short vacation in Whiteshell Provincial Park when he spotted two cigar-shaped objects descending, one of which landed near him. Michelak says he saw a door open and heard voices from inside the object, after which he tried to make contact in English and other languages but got no response. He claims to have burned his hand while attempting to examine “colourful glass” found around the object and seen a grid-like exhaust vent that expelled gas that burned his clothing.

The Babushka Lady is a nickname for an unknown woman present during the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy who might have photographed the events. She was seen to be holding a camera by eyewitnesses and was also seen in film accounts of the assassination. Even though the shooting had already taken place and most of her surrounding witnesses took cover, she can be seen still standing with the camera. She never came forward. The police and FBI did not find her, and the film shot from her position never turned up.

The Wem Town Hall burned down, but as it did, a photographer snapped pictures of the flames. There just so happened to be a ghost girl looking out from them.

This is one of the most famous ghost photographs ever taken. Some say light was leaked onto the film, but others firmly believe this is proof ghosts exist. It was taken in 1936 in Raynham Hall in England.

After this woman moved to a nursing home, her family took a picture of her. After getting the film developed, they noticed something strange. The man standing behind her wasn’t there in real life… and it looked just like her deceased husband.

In 1975, a picture was taken of Diane Berthelot sitting in the pews at Worstead Church in Norfolk, England. Her husband took the photo and NO ONE was sitting behind her.

This picture, originally intended only to capture the spiral staircase in the Queen’s House section of the National Maritime Museum in England, was taken in 1966. A shrouded figure appears at the bottom of the stairs. For years, there have been reports of paranormal activity.

This picture, taken in 1919 of a WWI squadron, appears to show a ghostly face behind the airman in the top row, fourth from left. Members of the squadron who later saw the photo said the face matched that of air mechanic Freddy Jackson, who had been killed in an airplane propellor accident two days before the photo was taken.

In 1959, a group of nine experienced Soviet mountaineers died mysteriously in the Ural Mountains. The photo above was taken by the rescue crew. According to the rescuers, the hikers ripped open their tent and ran out barefoot into the snow trying to escape from something. Six of the hikers died of hypothermia, two died of major chest fractures, and one hiker suffered severe head injuries. Alarmingly, he was also missing his tongue. If that wasn’t strange enough, the clothing worn by the hikers was suddenly highly radioactive.

Elisa Lam is a story that will send chills down your spine. In February of 2013, the 21-year-old student was found dead inside the Cecil Hotel's rooftop water tank in Los Angeles. It was ruled accidental, a drowning, there were no traces of drugs or alcohol. But there is a surveillance video.

She enters the elevator and presses all the buttons, she waits for something to happen, but it does not shut. She looks around, is she hiding from someone? It's unknown how she got access to the roof, let alone to the water tank, and then drowned in it. This photo was taken in the 1990s. The subject was dressed in 1880s garb and a black and white film was being used. What wasn’t intentional, though, was the small ghost boy also in period clothing that appeared on the film in the background.

This photo was taken by Apollo 17 near the Geophone Rock, during their last flight to the Moon and it was listed as a blank in the Apollo 17 photographic index. The photo certainly suffers from extreme light exposure and noise issues, but it's in fact not completely blank, as adjusting the contrast reveals pyramid-like structures.
