Laser etched ply for the cover, dyed and gold leafed it. Then made the cover in linen. Sewed the book out of reuseable tan toned paper printed in 5mm dots.

Me: What's it about? You:

Looks great!

Looks really cool on outside, the inside yet to be written. Potentially this could be the best book ever written. Lotta potential ???

Bilirubin...?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's my porn name. I was going to use it to fund my way through medical school.

When my kid was in the NICU, we called him "Little Billy Rubin"

4 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

We had one of those UV lamps at our house to help our newborn daughter get over her jaundice. Broke my heat watching her sleep in there. :(

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Freaking Billy Rubin loves keeping kids at the NICU.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

As an amateur bookbinder myself I LOVE what you did with the back cover! That's an awesometastical idea!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

:D thank you!! ???

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Beautiful

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

so pretty.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now that's craft at it's finest! Gj OP!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're welcome. Keep up!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The color, the font for the lettering, the gold pages, the fox and design. I love everything about this.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! ?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Novice bookbinder here: very cool work. How did you do the cover?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I wrote under the picture, but it's laser etched plywood that I then dyed and gold leafed.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry, didn't see it, thanks for the info

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All good! :)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reusable paper? I didn't know that was a thing

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea! You use it with friction pens then you wash the paper with a damn sponge or iron away the text to reuse it.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aren't there supposed to be words in it?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a journal

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, when written in. Not all books come with prewritten stories.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Progress over perfection" I quite like that motto. I was gonna comment it's so nice I would be afraid to use it but that attitude helps :)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gorgeous. I'm going to need to expand my projects/ideas on my laser. Did you create the artwork as well, or is it commons?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No I found it on an old book and traced it in Inkscape.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@op put nice art paper in there (depending on pencil vs water color paper) and sell it to artists! They would pay for that I’m sure!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I generally don't sell things. It's really frustrating on many fronts.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You’re one of my fav follows on the birb app, so happy to see you’re here too! Thanks for the beeswax tip!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ooh hey! Have fun with that one! ??

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And here I am trying to WRITE a book. This seems much more fun and much less frustrating.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Likely ?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You REALLY underplayed the back cover hinge. That is the first time I've seen one

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

??

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey I know you. You’re from the internet. So I have the same ikea shelving you used :)

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Oh hey! Hello! That's cool! So you've seen me on YouTube?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Me too! I had one of your beef levelling guides hung up for years before realising it was you that made it!!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahh that's very cool! Thank you!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Indeed. Great content. Swearing at 3D printers is half the fun.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I would LOVE to get something like this done for my publication just 1 copy for me. Do you take commissions?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's your budget?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry for the blunt question. It's just a LOT of work. And would you need custom art or did you like this image?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My budget would be what ever you would charge. lol I would save to get one of these. I think for my publication a custom cover would be nice

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like something along the lines of the actual cover. But yeah feel free to DM me and we can discuss more.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like the flexible back cover

4 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 1

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I thought it was a trick. By folding the back cover all the words were going to appear.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Me too! I stole that idea from a bullet journal. ?

4 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Thought tablet cover.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

What's it good for?

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

So you can read the book in landscape

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So you can flick through easily. I think I'll write my titles on the foredge

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aah, okay. Yeah

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is the book for deaf people? I don’t see any words and I see 5 mm dots, is that for Braille?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's for bullet journalling

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahhhh!!!! Journaling was my other thought. But I’ve never heard of bullet journaling! New stuff to google!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ooh gosh prepare for a whole new world!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bilirubin is the name of one of the chemicals that give your poo its color

4 years ago | Likes 305 Dislikes 0

Yea. It's my porn name. I wanted to use it to fund my way through med school.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Bilirubin! Adding color to your feces. Available now from your own liver.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Beat me to it.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And as the title of the journal, makes an excellent joke for shit posting

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

After my wife went on a beet-eating bender for a few days she thought her intestines were bleeding until I explained bilirubin.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you. My brain was telling me something was familiar about that name.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And an excess of which gives ~70% of newborns jaundice.

4 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

Get that book under a light stat!

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

After a longer stint in the hospital, we got bili-blanket; turned our baby into a Glo-Worm!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's how the name came into my life. It's the name of my childhood teddy.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And the fake name Hannibal Lecter have the FBI in the hunt for Buffalo Bill.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Also, the exact color of Dr Chilton's hair

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And bruises!

Poo!

Story of my achievements.

4 years ago | Likes 290 Dislikes 1

Same tbh

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If your achievements so far...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hmm?

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

(It’s empty)

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It's a joke: since the pages are blank, they imply that they've achieved nothing

4 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Also a sneaky way to make this post about yourself rather than OP. Low key narcissism is rampant on imgur.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 36

So all self-deprecating humor is inherently narcissistic? I disagree. I make jokes about myself so I dont accidentally hurt other people.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right back atcha.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Please explain how my original comment is about me.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 16

Wow...talk about an armchair psychologist.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Am I wrong?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 13

wait ...isn't bilirubin metabolic waste. But .. this. ... this is not trash?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Billie Ruben is my porn name. I was going to use that to fund my way through medical school.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Deleted comment below: I tried to make a joke, meant "private browsing" not "safe search" so crap joke fell flatter; TLDR horrible comedian.

Lol. You're not going to find it on safe search.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh ?. oh ! ok ! For reals!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did it work? Are you Doctor Billie Ruben now?!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did the plan work? Are you Doctor Billie Ruben, MD!?!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope! The name attracted a bunch of real doctors and I decided their life was not for me. I ended up studying 2 different STEM degrees

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5mm ≈ 200 thousandths of an inch

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

Thanks @UnitConversionBot

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

What's that in parsecs?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Less than 12.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or 1/5th. Reduce your fractions!!!

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Bananas?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This seems wildly incorrect.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

nm maybe, but mm

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

200/1000, not 1/200000, you've read it wrongly.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's just an annoying way of saying "two tenths". It's actually 0.19685 inches.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Unless you're a machinist using imperial, in which case "two tenths" is 0.0002" or about 0.005mm.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What? Why? They just change up the entire measurement system for that one trade?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's just short for 'two tenths of a thousandth of an inch', since a thousandth of an inch is a convenient unit for tolerance. 0.2" is huge.
