Submarine

Description: 15-year-old Oliver Tate has two objectives: To lose his virginity before his next birthday, and to extinguish the flame between his mother and an ex-lover who has resurfaced in her life. (Richard Ayoade)

Stars: Craig Roberts, Sally Hawkins, Paddy Considine

Why It Doesn't Suck: It's weird as shit. So bizarre, but so awkwardly charming, relatable and witty. I get lemony snicket-esque narration vibes but the british accents could be my bias there.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-WCCdkVDr4

Where to Watch: Netflix, or learn to torrent, stream, or message for link.

TiMER

Description: If a clock could count down to the moment you meet your soul mate, would you want to know?

Stars: Emma Caulfield, John Patrick Amedori, Scott Holroyd

Why It Doesn't Suck: it's concept is unique, it's funny, it's strange. It may leave typical lovers of romantic comedies unsatisfied, but others will feel fulfilled in the unanswerable questions and thoughts the ending brings about.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWtOjWH84ok

Where To Watch: Some Netflix's, or message for link list!

Celeste and Jesse Forever

Description: A divorcing couple tries to maintain their friendship while they both pursue other people. (Lee Toland Krieger)

Stars: Rashida Jones, Andy Samberg, Elijah Wood

Why it Doesn't Suck: Jones' writing and acting in this is so spot on and relatable. There are kind of sad feels that will bring u back to that feel of 'awh shit break ups suck'. Plus, awkward-omg-dont-say-that Michael Scott-ish moments taboot.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQoH1IGRB3w

Where to Watch: Netflix, or msg for link, or torrent or steam, its 2014 lbr.

Life After Beth

Description: A young man's recently deceased girlfriend mysteriously returns from the dead, but he slowly realizes she is not the way he remembered her. (John Baena)

Stars: Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan, John C. Reilly, MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER

Why it Doesn't Suck: it's too twisted and unique to be just a romance or to be just be a comedy. it's edward scissor-handy with a dark humour that is clever. It's blatant 'gags' still come off as one-of-a-kind.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVtaRAAWJss

Where to Watch:look it up, or buy it legitimately because it just came out for digital download and i dont feel comfortable about giving links to movies that are still actively trying to make a profit!

Some Girl(s)

Description: On the eve of his wedding, a successful writer travels across the country to meet up with ex-lovers in an attempt to make amends for past relationship transgressions.

Stars: Adam Brody, Kristen Bell, Zoe Kazan, Jennifer Morrison

Why It Doesn't Suck: It's based on a play, and it feels like it when you're watching. It's less romantic comedy, and more comedy while talking about past romances. Each 'ex' has a story with Brody's character, with at least one you undoubtedly relate too. Kazan's and Bell's performances are phenomenal. Great movie to watch post-breakup.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzpAzzZ0KnQ

Where to Watch: Message for link list.

Giant Mechanical Man

Description: An offbeat romantic comedy about a silver-painted street performer and the soft spoken zoo worker who falls for him.

Stars: Jenna Fischer, Chris Messina, Topher Grace

Why It Doesn't Suck: it's charming as all else. It's about feeling lost in life and trying to find what will make you feel found - and if you haven't felt that way, hell you're a lucky one. Messina is amazing, Fisher's character in this is as lovable as Pam.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtbvHJzlyrw

Where To Watch: Some Netflix's. Or message for link lists if you don't know how to stream or torrent you N00BS. jk no hate, i wanna help :)

Wristcutters: A Love Story

Description: A film set in a strange afterlife way station that has been reserved for people who have committed suicide.

Stars: Patrick Fugit, Shea Whigham, Tom Waits

Why It Doesn't Suck: It's such a unique concept. It's a romantic comedy about suicide that does not ever romanticize suicide itself. It's dark, it's weird, but will leave you doing something they can't - smiling :).

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHAQW2ko6yI

Where To Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w5y5erTCUg !

Two Night Stand

Description: A snowstorm forces two people who made an online connection to unwillingly extend their one-night stand.

Stars: Miles Teller, Analeigh Tipton, Jessica Szohr, Scott Mescudi

Why It Doesn't Suck: I went into it not expecting much than your generic stupid-but-entertaining romcom, and was pleasantly surprised. Teller and Tipton draw off each other, and have comedic banter like spitfire. It offers some cool, funny insights on relationships. And it's also very open and honest about sex - for once.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcSosCe0B-A

Where To Watch: Buy it on itunes! It was just recently released so i dont feel uber comfortable about sharing dat link just yet when it could still make some money.

In Your Eyes

Description: Two seemingly unconnected souls from different corners of the United States make a telepathic bond that allows them to see, hear and feel the others experiences, creating a bond that apparently can't be broken. (Written by Joss Whedon)

Stars: Jennifer Grey, Nikki Reed, Zoe Kazan

Why It Doesn't Suck: Joss Whedon's cool ass mind created an amazing premise, once again. It's more charming witty-banter romance than laugh out loud comedy. But still highly underrated film from early 2014.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs_Z2OyqW5A

Where To Watch: I am highly urging you to digitally download the movie because that was how it was released, no theatrical release and it's still so new. So, support on that level guys, or find links yourself bc for this one I wont give links sowwy.

a lot of the movies you all are suggesting/complaining are not on this list are in the previous lists above. Also, if it's not on any of the list likely A) It's a fairly well known movie, most people have seen or at least heard of it B') It's just a comedy or just a romance, Ie people have suggested Superbad and The Notebook should be on this list? no lol.

Anyways, hope you enjoy :)

I love how Matthew Gray Gubler is in all caps!

I feel like I saw the ending coming a mile away though, the twists made me think 'maybe they won't end it like that' but then they did.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

i love how it shows that not every relationship ends well. it's a harsh lesson we all had to learn at some point

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

my fav too, but anyone who remotely likes romcoms has seen or at least heard of it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Submarine and Wristcutters are fantastic. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind should be on here.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

You're completely right

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Is it a comedy though?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It has funny moments, more funny moments than some of these other movies.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Celeste and Jesse Forever was pretty touching.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Maybe it's just me, but that movie was so sad!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly what I mean! I didn't start watching it with huge expectations, but ended up kind of moved.

Where is Perks of being a wallflower?!

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Such a good movie/book, one of my favorites.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

these lists are more for the movies not very well-known. Perks while fantastic, was fairly well-distributed and seen.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I just finished watching In Your eyes cause of this list. Fantastic! Not too lovey dovey with very likeable characters. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 I haven't rooted for a love story so hard in a long time.

A-are you me?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really liked Warm Bodies, I generally hate romantic movies because they're poorly written

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds just like my life. We can cry together.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would also suggest moonrise kingdom and safety not guaranteed

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Drooling intensifies...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shirtless in Life After Beth ;) Aww Yeah...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1- I just watched 'Some Girls' and the guy that Brody is playing is a 100% piece of garbage. The epitome of the worst guy ever. I was almost

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2- super pissed off at this movie for not calling him out on it, and I still kind of am, but at least Veronica Mars told him what for. Also

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3- just imagining that Kristen Bell has a twin pretty much made my week.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The BOULDER here: Timer is a cool concept, but the ending sucks more balls than EA. Go see About Time instead for the 2nd or 3rd time.

11 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 6

First I love you, second, yeah, the ending sucked so much.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love love or like love?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As someone who has seen About Time, affirmative.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I agree, the ending really ruined the movie for me.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You and The BOULDER both, son.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

This is cool, but you know what list I wanna see? A fantasy list. not any casual stuff, high fantasy. Even if they are indies, I need a list

11 years ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 5

Romantic comedies don't appeal to me because they're basically scripted reality TV.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

They fall into the category of "depicting things I could only care about if they were happening to me personally"

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I too would be interested in this... GOOD high fantasy is hard to find.

11 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

High fantasy is a subgenre, not a scale of casual/hard. It just means fantasy not set in the real world. Naruto is technically high fantasy.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

+1 For Naruto.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What exactly falls into "high fantasy". I tried googling and the description just confounded me more.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So high fantasy is like regular fantasy but like on a higher plane?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hey OP here, but make it yourself then :) Only high fantasy I've liked is Harry Potter and LOTR so i wont be making a list of that genre ATS

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I would, but I don't know any movies of that kind, that's why I'm asking someone else to do it

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

fuck fantasy, I'm into HARD SCI-FI

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

We need both, damnit!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I watched Legend, which features Tim Curry as the Lord of Darkness. I don't think I can ever watch a fantasy film ever again.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

is it any good? i love Tim Curry.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is one of the worst movies ever made. I suggest only watching it in irony.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Oh it also has a young Tom Cruise.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I refused to rent anything other than Legend and the Last Unicorn when I was a a kid. I personally think it's fantastic.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I too thought those wer awesome movies'
