Tiny apartment in Paris (86 sq ft)

Parisian here, this is pretty extreme but not far from truth. 1200€ for a 20m2 (meter system ftw) is common.

Too much of a homebody to do this. Better for people who spend most of their time outside their apartment and are only there to eat & sleep.

As an engineer, I am jizzing over the efficient use of space hnngg

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Why and where would someone live like this? Are there not nice cheap homes with trees, toilets, and other things cheaper?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why??

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What a fucking nightmare that would be.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a closet. You live in a closet.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is disgusting, no one should have to live in such confined space.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But where is the kitchen where you can actually cook food?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

To be fair, it's Paris so that's not a major problem.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Looks like a great place if all I did was fuckin read.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This just added a new bullet to my bucket list. Take a shower on a toilet.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Charter a boat for a vacation sometime, a few have the same setup, as do RV's but a boat makes a cool vacation.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That shit is claustrophobic af! Who would read like that. Nice bathroom though - bigger than most ones in Copenhagen

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

The pro is that the chance to lose something is very rare.

9 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

I'd manage

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

believe me it happens

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why don't we make apartments like this in american cities (other than the mega cities like NY) an apartment building full of these1/2

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

We have a lot of real estate, making space cheap. We are used to space, and would feel uncomfortable in a place the size of an avg. bedroom.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Americans can't handle small properties, a lot of apartments in London are like the above video. My brother lives in NY in a "small" appt.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Check Apartment Therapy Small Cool, teeny-tiny division. They exist.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

would be so cheap per apartment and net the same money to the company. it would solve the housing problem

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

Wouldn't change the price that much. Still gotta cover maintenance costs for all of those additional apartments, not to mention utilities.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because they are usually illegal to build that small. Cities either put minimum sq.ft. reqs on apartments, or individual rooms.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, zoning regulations. Plus, they mandate 2 or 2 1/2 parking spaces per unit. Low rents are not a priority for the regulators.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bruh, those bookshelves aren't big enough. Moar books.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Seriously though what moron buys an 86 sq foot apartment and fills half of it with books? Get all that crap digital.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

That! And on a sidenote: why would you ever want to put your books right above your boiler?!?!?!?!?!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seriously though what moron buys an 86 sq foot apartment and fills half of it with books? Get all that crap digital.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

Those of us who like to read an actual book instead of a screen, and enjoys having a library filled with their favourite books?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone get the gif of Bender and Fry squished into his robot apartment.

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

100 sq ft apartments NYC go for $1100-$1500, the worst however is probably Hong Kong only 4sq ft for $150 http://imgur.com/WpuyInO

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

What the hell is happening in Hong Kong?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

all types of fuckery

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

People. People everywhere

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I liked everything except the bathroom. I want to feel clean showering. The shitter right there doesn't welcome that feeling.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

shitter next to the shower is completely normal.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I think with a regular shower it'd probably be cleaner than your typical bathroom, what with all the feces particles normally around.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good point

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't say you'd FEEL any cleaner, but I mean even showers get real nasty on their own if not cleaned often.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its illegal in France. this one is under 8 sq meters. minimum should be 9 sq meters of the main room without counting bathroom kitchen etc..

9 years ago | Likes 272 Dislikes 3

Illegal but people still rent them because people are desperate to find an appartment in the city center.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You don't have to rent one out but you can own one and live in it.

9 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 1

Illegal to rent as a living space but not illegal to own.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can tell because the French are lovers and there isn't enough room to fuck in that bed.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here in the states we just call that a dorm room. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 3

There are many states...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Our dorm room are even smaller.... :).........:'(

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Shit dude, my dorm was probably twice or thrice the size of that. No bathroom though. Had to do the communal thing

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

we didn't get our own bathroom! Had to share with 3 other girls

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I had to share with 50 if them.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ooooo you win!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I could do that. I'm not sure my five cats and one kid would be happy, though.

9 years ago | Likes 358 Dislikes 3

i mean if the kids harry potter, he will love it more than anyone

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

All sorts of closet space. The kids will be fine.

9 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

NYC be like: "That'll be $2500 monthly"

9 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 2

Thats cute, London be like "That'd be £2000 plus 4 months prepayments, plus 1k deposit, plus guarantor and references"

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 4

don't forget about the 2500£ council tax

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Adorable, San Francisco be like, "Heyyy mannnnn... That'll be $3000, plus first mo, last mo, 2 mo security deposit and another $300 to park

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In London they'd charge you to park if there actually was anywhere to park. Having a car in London is only for the insanely rich.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get a Kindle and she'd have 50% more closet space.

9 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 2

I agree she is wasting so much space. Change the closets. Add a Murphy bed and add a folding out table. The sliding uses too much space.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Wrong door, shat in wardrobe.

9 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

The very tall ceiling makes the square foot measurement less meaningful.

9 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 18

Yeah, try to fit all that stuff in a room with an 8 foot ceiling, definitely wouldn't work.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Height would affect cubic feet, not square.

9 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 12

The point is what you can fit into a space is dependent on cubic feet, not just sq feet. Apparently Paris has laws on minimum cubic meters

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

For an apt to be rentable

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

yes, but average height ceilings would make it harder to get this without looking far more cramped.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

Poop and show at the same time! Where do I sign up?

9 years ago | Likes 144 Dislikes 5

Has science gone too far?! Or not far enough...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I stayed at a dorm in England once that had this setup. It worked okay, but was really disconcerting the first couple days.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Japan.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not quite sure what a poop and show is.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

*shower

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's German...

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It is common in Asia, in my experience, to have a tiled bathroom containing showerhead, drain, and toilet.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did this, in Paris funny enough. It really cuts down on prep time in the am, which was fortunate because we were perpetually hungover.

9 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

Lovely to meet you, Mr. Fitzgerald.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't water get into the bowl and flood it?

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Does the water level in the bowl rise when you pee? No, it doesn't.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, you sort of hunch over and the shower runs down your back and then off the sides. It really is pretty relaxing, imo

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think we would get along very well

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think I'm loads of fun at parties.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's a curtain so that doesn't happen

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also you fill a toilet bowl it will actually flush so if the power goes out and you need to use the toilet more than once dump in some h20

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

does your toilet requires electricity

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Power runs the water to the tank that's why you can use whatever is in the line but no more

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, but the pumps supplying its water do

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah that's why a lot of cabins off the power grid have outhouses

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Could have had some extra space if they got rid of the toilet and put a garbage disposal in the shower drain.

9 years ago | Likes 963 Dislikes 7

I'm just excited I can do both at the same time.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just a matter of time until one of those tiny home designers decides to do this

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Its funny but also a little brilliant

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Thank you! This made me laugh so hard.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh my god.

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

I know they make them for RVs too. Wife's uncle had one hooked into our septic.

if under 9m² can't be rented but can be owned. Still payed through the nose depending on where.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is a small shed in my town that sold for almost 2 million.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or 1500 €

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Tokyo it would be roughly ¥600-800 depending on the area.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They pay you?! Sign me up.

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 4

Dang, was about to make that joke.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And you're only within earshot of 73 different neighbors.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, if it pays $1600 a month, I take it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As somebody from Boston- I'd totally pay $1600/month for that place

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its even worse in central London.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus bills...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like San Francisco...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or 350 a night on AirBnB

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still better than my place

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HAHAHAHA I rented a 1500sq foot house in Columbus Ohio for $1300

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

Still less than Seattle.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Right?! I'm at 1300 for 'income restricted' in Belltown!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, we make too much for low income but not enough to buy a house w/in a 3 hour drive of downtwn. Fucking stupid.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in a owner rent controlled building in Ballard. 1350 for 2 bedrooms, 950 sgft.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Our house rent went up 4 times in as many years. Finally decided to purchase a home and saved money.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I pay 4K a month in SF for a place only 1 br 1 bath

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol why?! That's insane. It's not that great a place to live, not for that price

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

From what I've the property insurances in San Francisco is damn high because it's prone to earthquakes. Not sure though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I suppose it's worth it if you make boatloads of money and live near work in some super fancy ass place and do lots of stuff in town.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ya all those but still sucks bad

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's an apartment that's for real like 100sq ft in NYC and the chick pays $2k/month for it

9 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 0

well fuck me, right?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I know someone in NYC rented a wall to divide an apt for $200 per month. The wall was $200

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jesus, where the fuck is it? My cousin pays less for triple that size and he's on the upper east side

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

How far up? Cause apts cost 3k+ in the 80s

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

78th

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, triple that size is still abysmally small.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

HAHAHAHA I rented a 1500sq foot house in Columbus Ohio for $1300

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

...in Columbus Ohio.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I love Ohio. No frills

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You'd have to pay me to live there

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

For real though I want to know what the rent is.

9 years ago | Likes 318 Dislikes 4

$1600

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably 500 to 600 euros monthly.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well, it is Paris. So it will not be too cheap, although they are trying to lower the prices.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even at the exchange rate, it's less expensive than places in the SF Bay Area.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

prob around 600 euros nowerdays,

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not for rent. Video's description says it's theirs and will be used by their 'au pair' nanny - which means it's basically a maid's room.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I always never understood why a building in New York doesnt do this. They could cut rooms and rent so much more at a small amount. $$$

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Check Craigslist. There's a building on St Marks that advertises these constantly for over a grand. Silly transplants probably all over it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Loool. Come to San Francisco

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And here's a 78 sq ft apt for $800/mo in NYC

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Becouse people are willing to rent bigger more expinsive rooms so why pay to build smaller more affordable rooms instead of use what you got

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Higher density is always more profitable

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Zoning regulations

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

There's also the fact that people are assholes to deal with, so fewer tenants in bigger apartments is less trouble than many smaller ones.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That is almost never a factor when doing a spreadsheet. I have no column for that...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Paris is the most expensive city in the world, it's also the most densely populated.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 13

Paris is #7 in price, and #6 in population density.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but where? I bet not in a huge city like Paris...

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I manage $800 in an old rent in Vienna with 1200sqft.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

My mortgage is £250 per month after a 10% deposit on a 2 up 2 down terrace house. Not bad at all. But fuck that Paris place
