Bengal

Achieved by selective breeding of domestic cats, with some integration of Asian Leopard Cats. They were developed in the 1960's. Ideal pets come from the fourth generation (F4) from when the Asian Leopard Cat was bred.

Resembles an Ocelot or Leopard
Typical cost is between $500-$1000.

White Bengal

A white variation of the Bengal cat above.

Marble Bengal

There are marble variations of the Bengal as well. More resembling a Margay.

White Marble Bengal

The White Marble Bengal resembles a Clouded Leopard.

Ocicat

The Ocicat is an all-domestic breed of cat. The color and size was achieved by selective breeding of Siamese, Abyssinians and American Shorthairs.

They resemble an Ocelot.

Cost is between $400-$800.

Toyger

This breed began in the 1980's. Selective breeding of various tabby cats lead to the tiger-like striping.

Obviously, resembles a tiger.

Cost is around $500-$1500

White Toyger

A white version of the Toyger

Savannah Cat

The largest domestic breed of cat.

This cat is a cross between a Serval and a Domestic Cat.
This breed is very new, only being registered in 2012.

Cost - F1 (first generation) Savannah cats range from $12,000-$26,000
Though you can get an F5 for as low as $1,500

They can also learn a few tricks. Personally, I hope to get one and name it Babou, then teach it to serpentine.

Cat Tax

My two boys - Gus Gus on the left, Manny on the right.

Edit: Because it's come up a couple times in the comments...
Gus Gus and Manny are both rescues. If you're looking for a cat, check your local shelter. :) Cost: $50-$125

FP Edit: Thanks guys! Send me your cats! If you don't have one, see my previous edit :D

I used to have a Bengal named Gator, he was the best cat and loved any type of attention and belly rubs. I miss him.

10 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Also, @Derkaderkaderka - get an opposing opinion of Bengals?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are awesome and loving cats. Very smart.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A friend of mine had a couple of Rottweiler's and one was named Gator, the other was named Allie.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry for your loss. :(

50 bucks, damn. My black cat Nietzsche was 10 bucks on friday the 13th at the shelter. Love my discount cat.

10 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 0

I have a discount dog, a white&tan cavalier. She loves to sleep on people's faces and chase flies. For her size she is fast as fuck.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I adopted a cat with a heart murmur for 10 bucks! Poor unwanted kitties! She was the best cat.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's awesome!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I got a used pre-owned from my friend. Now I got a NEW best friend.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My litter mates were free from the mother of a friend. Best no money I've ever spent.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My discount cat Cazadora was absolutely free :) I just paid for a couple of vet visits including of course her spay surgery.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine wandered into my backyard. Free!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My longhaired cat was free cause he was 3 years old. I've paid $3000 in healthcare on him since. They sold me a lemon.

10 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

He's 5 right now. Ayy, what the fuck do I do, bro. I should've opted for the vagina surgery for him back then.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mine is gonna need knee surgery in a few yrs and had a bad respiratory infection but for ten bucks *shrugs* he's pretty swell

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

$1000 for a thing that's gonna straight up ignore me 90% of the time? Nah. I'll take my free, country, crazy-eyed cat.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Or you can go to your local shelter and adopt a feline in need with a chip and all of their shots for just $50-$100.

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 5

I've made an edit to the post. :)

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Your cats are beautiful, as are the rare breeds in the post! Just had to be one of those commenters and promo rescues :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Thank you! I'm all about rescues myself. :D do you have cats of your own?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In other words: Kitty! Kitty! Kitty! Kitty! Kitty! Kitty! Kitty! Kitty! Kitty! Kitty!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do not buy lower generation Savannahs. Breeding such a large tom to a normal sized housecat results in so many issues for the female (1/x)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Breeders have never accomplished a female Serval accepting to breed with a domestic tom, so it has to be done the other way round. (2/x)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gestation periods in the species differ, so all kittens are born about ten days too early, resulting in premature kittens. (3/+)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Their mortality rate is higher than needs to be. Plus, mating with something three times its size is stressful and painful (4/+)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and the kittens will be to big for her to give birth naturally, putting her at an unnessecary risk. All for the sake of selling (5/+)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

overpriced designer cats as status symbols. Ever wondered where the wild ancestor came from? Propably just taken from the wild, lost (6/+)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Only certain types of Savannah cats are legal in each state some states not at all.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Most are legal though others u need 3rd to 5th or lower generation only a handful it is illegal

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Here's a placement. If you're in the NY Area and are looking to adopt or foster an animal in need please PM me! We're always in need.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have a bengal, best cat ever. True story.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

my friend has a bengal and he is extremely vocal. Is your bengal the same way?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Glad to hear it!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Beautiful. And they cost a trillion dollars.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Is there any bad side effects from the cross breeding?

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Toyger: Prone to Heart Murmur, Rolled Rib, and FIP

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Since they're likely to sacrifice all other traits in order to optimize the fur color/pattern, expect more physical and behavioral issues.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ocicats: Prone to Kidney Disease, Anemia, Heart Disease, Gingivitis

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All breeding has its side effects whether they have been found yet or not.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Definitely true.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bengal: Heart Disease, Retinal Atrophy, Cataracts, Distal Neuropathy

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Disclaimer: I'm not a veterinarian. I just like researching things.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Savannah Cats: No known health problems have been established. Could be due to such a new breed though.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My kitties were initially free (saved from the road) but the $$$ in their vet bills has made up for it!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Nice job saving them :D

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aww, thanks :D

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wanted a Savannah, but adoped a stray instead. He learned tricks from the dog. Can't imagine a better cat.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

That's awesome :D do you have pictures of him? What tricks did he learn?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He walks on a leash, comes when I whistle, and can show me what he wants (food, brush, box). There's a pic in my images. Stupid mobile app.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I went and gave him an upvote. Thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Woot, thx! Love my Spot cat.

What I really want is something that looks like a cat, but has the temperament of a dog

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

So you want a brown or grey tabby!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maine Coon all day.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maine Coon! They're the loviest, derpiest, most puppy like kitties. Also, they're huge and fluffy as hell. Seriously, they're amazing.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Most purebred cats are like that. Siamese are good example. They are vocal, thought.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My bengal is leash trained, she plays fetch, comes when you call, she snuggles every night and loves to play. Great cats.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ragdoll <3

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

one of my cats legit acts more like a dog than a cat.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's what I got, my tabby cat that followed me home while I was on acid. He climbs trees, he comes ruining when I whistle, and sleeps onme

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Savannah then. Their behavior is more akin to dogs than cats. But they jump EVERYWHERE. No place is safe from them.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Himalayan or a manx

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Probably the Savannah. You can put it on a leash and play fetch.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I take my two rescue shelter cats for walks on harnesses/leashes and the boy loves to fetch. All in the temperament-just got to get lucky!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have had a marble Bengal for almost 10 years now. Do. no. get. one. unless you wan to listen to the thing meow at nothing for hours.

10 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 9

Mine are half siamese and holy crap they never stop meowing.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think my tabby has bengal somewhere in him. He sits and talks to you, and gets EXTRA talky if you leave the room without him.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think they get the Siamese talkativeness. Siamese were a major part of the breeding for temperament, intellect and coat.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Had bengals for 17 years best damn cats I ever had

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I understand your pain. At first I thought that the conversations were cute but the my Bengal meows non stop. Such smart cats but talkative!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think my giant tuxido longhair boy is secretly part bengal. "MROOOOW MROWWWWWW MRWWWWW...MROOOOOOW?" for hours on end. Especially at night

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Called caterwauling they are closer to wild that is common with f4 and above a domestic f5 or more wont give u that if u fix them

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's definitely got no balls. But he's been marking EVERYTHING, and acting like a tom, so I question his lack of balls.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was gonna get one... Why do they meow so much? Can you give me more information as a Bengal owner?

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Do a search. It's a very prevalent behavior with them. It's fuckin' annoying as hell. I honestly can't wait till it dies. =(

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 54

That animal deserves someone who will love it. I've had one for 4 years, she meows when she is bored. Don't be a dick, play with it.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

I do play with it. A lot. Don't just ASSume it's neglected.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Do some reading man, I have. That is just what many of them do.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

yeah that was my thought. i had a talkative cat, but i loved it. was almost dog like in a way.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Maybe put him up for adoption?

10 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

I've though about it, but he's too good a buddy to my tabby.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah I did some research... I'm not gonna go with one of them. No matter how cool they look lol try giving yours away if you hate it tho

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Thank you. Too many people talking about shit they know nothing about. That's just how some Bengals ate.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And he's very good buddies with my tabby. So I deal with it. I'm not mean to him.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have a Savannah, she is the best. But I love my black domestic cat the most.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

So... how would you describe the temperament of your black cat? Is it bitey?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Opposite, he is lovable and very social with people.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've always dreamed of having a Savannah. How big is your kitty? What's the experience been? Does she have specific health concerns?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, she is an f5 small, they can be energetic. The health concerns are the nerve in the neck signifying hunger can "break"

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It happened to her older sister, and since they are Savannahs there price is high. They do well with couples and families with older childre

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*n and my experience is she is wild like her serval grandfather, they take to stalking instinctively. And she is very protective of me

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Of course each cat is different so if you are looking to buy one know that there personalities will be different

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you so much for the reply. What happens when their hunger nerve breaks? Overeat or Undereat? Do you take her for walks?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well they starve because they no longer know that they are hungry. And I live a warm place and cold place she does well in both. I

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I let her out in my back yard but the state I live in doesn't permit me to take her out far. Since she can damage the ecosystem

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do your research about the laws of your state too. I had have the right papers filled and such

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the bengals, the whites are actually referred to as snows. There are definitely a lot more color variations as well.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can have charcoals and lynx points, as well as long hairs (sometimes referred to as cashmere)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I saw some of those as well, but wanted to keep the post to 10 pics. Thanks for the additional info tho :D

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No problem! I work for a Bengal breeder, so we have a billion variations on colors and markings ;)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's awesome! Where are you based out of?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
