Reindeer move in a circle called a cyclone when they feel threatened.

Oh no! So why did they do this in Frozen 2??? Was Elsa threatening them?!? What did they know that we didn't????

Ants sometimes do this by accident until they all die

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Great instinctual tactic. People won’t be smart enough to do this when the time comes

Stop threatening them !

Alternatively, there's a fence

You forgot to mention the invisible rain deer Kaaba in the middle.

They're in a cycler pen. FFS

What’s up with the frosty looking reindeer(s)? Maybe some farty butts be ahead of they…

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think they're piebald. If so, they probably have a higher chance of surviving to adulthood than most piebald animals due to the herd size and environment. There's also one subspecies of caribou that turns mostly white in the winter, so if it's early in the season their coat color could be shifting but most aren't there yet.

So they live in the northern hemisphere

When metalheads feel secure they form a circle pit

2 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

When that many people gather, it's called a nope.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I respect your opinion, now get in the pit.

"The reindeer will build a round fence when threatened."

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

they do it even without a fence

Looks like separation place, so yeah. Technically true, as this is where reindeer farmer separates which reindeers get to live another year, and which are to become top expensive meat product.

-And fancy clothing, or decor.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, it gives them feelings of off fence

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This behavior is also practiced by reindeer kept in corrals, occurring in groups of at least 20 to 25 animals, researchers wrote in a 2002 study published in the journal Rangifer. Penned reindeer formed "cyclones" and were observed to run "invariably" in a counterclockwise direction, the scientists reported. — https://www.livescience.com/64778-vikings-reindeer-cyclone.html

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I wonder if the direction is coz they r mostly right handed (hoofed?) and they kick harder with their right leg?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I doubt it. Like, if they were in a square paddock, I don't think they'd be moving in squares. Circling makes more sense since they can maintain the same pace and same direction.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

But why are they moving? Because to me this seems like a follow the leader scenario, and they are only moving because the one in front is moving, similar to a death spiral amongst ants.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It looks like a combination of offense and defence. The circling makes it hard for a predator to target a single deer and them being in constant motion is like they're in a perpetual stampeed, making it easy for the herd to overpower a predator(s) that tries anyway. Maybe they feel vulnerable since they're confined to one spot. https://www.livescience.com/64778-vikings-reindeer-cyclone.html

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe the other way around - round fencing is made because reindeer do this

It caused a fence
