Nice drumroll.
Shardmind
Anyone know what score this is from, or who the composer was?
DividedByZir0
Possibly fucik.
IhateCatGifs
Its from 1992, April, Kolonge, Germany. And on top there is the word Papiermembrane which means Papermembran. Its old.
isamux3
Luckily the heads are replaceable
TheArsonistWithNormalShapedFeet
That's a fake head anyhow. They are way tougher than you might think. No way someone could out their head through it and not hurt themselves
snargfargle
Just like people
frankensteinsmonster13
Yeah just a pain in the ass to change and retune.
Trickky
I'd venture to say that they replaced the fabric with a cheaper, easy to break material
Sloppydrunkcatlady
With how easily it broke, absolutely. A real timpano head would not break that easily haha, and they're expensive.

I am a popular musician, I only remember some bits from musical scores

Why don't you put down your Cubase and pick up a real bow?
FrostyFries277
keep it at piano please
Quessan
ERB ftw.
TheMusicBandit
I like that they brought an extra one on stage just for this reason
psychoreo
Well, you sure as hell aren't putting your head through a real tympani head.
foesmono
Chuck Norris may disagree
Barkinsons
But your failure would make a great sound
Iamblaine
well you could try, but it will hurt like a motherfucker
Buckbeak1486
Because those skins are relatively cheap to replace, right? Honest question.
ASwizzle
They are expensive as shit but that one was fake.
cogs
*Head. That's paper, real tymp heads are $50-$100.
Drumlime
No they are quite expensive buuuut it looks like that is a different style which means its probably older and not used often/at all
vampyrita
It's paper.
Timpani actually are only played in sets of four. if you look closely you can see that the drum is the same size as one of the others.
HankeringForASpankering
HAHAHAHAHA no fucking way.
dronir
That's a drum with a fake skin made of paper just for that effect.
(It even says that on the picture, though most of the instruction isn't visible.)
I'm guessing that's just paper, those skins don't rip that easily
SepticStorm
and no they are not cheap
nclu
Like shoving your face through hardened leather. And the synthetics are only a bit more brittle.
MisunderstoodIndian
No not at all timpani heads are pretty expensive
abrakadumbass
the paper ones are apparently pretty cheap
espasmato
Not at all.
AahzAndArthurDent
On a standard drumkit? Yeah. On that? Lolno.
popau
They replaced it with paper, it says in the music to use paper as well.
Then, that is even more impressive. Lol Until they take it out of his paycheck.
Music gets what the music wants, its not the drummers fault
It was supposed to be a joke... A very poor joke.
