1978 Yamaha SR500

It's been sitting a while

this is gonna be tough

His health wasn't great toward the end and pawned some gear instead of ever hinting to me he wasn't doing well

He fully embraced getting old and wanted his AARP card early so he could get senior discounts and order from that menu

Some of his hair stuck in the tuning key

30 years of his arm rubbing against the top of the bass

It's seen some action

I can hear him talking to people saying "now now children"

I miss you dad.

Last few years

Back in the day. Banner Thomas, Bass for Molly Hatchet

Saw Molly Hatchet around 79. Prop when he road that brand new motorcycle. At least his memories didn't pass away.

If there is a heaven, I'll bet he's rocking out with guys like Jimmy Hendrix right now and getting told jokes by Robin Williams.

My condolences, and I wish you good luck with the bike!

My dad told me a story a couple times about how he went to see Molly Hatchet before I was born. He passed 10 years ago. Hang in there friend

I introduced toddlers to your dad today. They loved flirting with disaster.

Nice! Let's see what the bike looks like when you get it cleaned up. Pourin' one out for your dad in NY

Dad would say don't waste alcohol, give it to a starving drummer.

My first concert in 8th grade was Triumph and Molly Hatchet in Beaumont, tx. circa ~1984

That's bonkers because I moved to Beaumont, TX for a job a few years back and dad said, he knew that random little town.

I'm usually a sarcastic douche. But if I go out of this world having accomplished that much, I'll be a happy man I guess.

Met your father at a video store when I was 19. He was happy I knew who Molly Hatchet was. I was amazed that everyone didn't.

Start cleaning that bike... remember the good times and

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That bike is pretty far past "cleaning."

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

You never know... some of those parts may still be good

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just about everything on that bike is going to need intensive restoration. At least that's my experience with bikes that are this weathered.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Take the carburetor apart and clean it out, get a new battery, fresh gas, and it will probably run again.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, those sr500s are bulletproof

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@OP, my condolences. As a musician myself, the notes he has played will live forever. RIP, Mr. Thomas.

Pal, that SR500 is perfect. just check for rust, the brakes, clean the glass and the saddle. instant survivor bike. my respects to your dad.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As another musician, and guitar player I bet he's up there jamming away with everybody down here

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My dad and I are both bass players. He too has a guitar collection. This makes me sad

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Same here. If it weren't for my dad, he's a bass player as well, I wouldn't have gotten as far in music.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'm a bassist too... Any links to your music?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At least you guys used to touch bass. Every time I'd ask my dad to hang he said he'd be back bassoon

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He loved his fenders! Guitars take on different characteristics and tones as they get older and are played. If you can't play, learn to ...

9 years ago | Likes 153 Dislikes 1

I'm prett sure the one with the disabled sticker is a modified Peavey Patriot though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP are these pre-CBS Fenders?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...Play them. They will still carry the idiosyncrasies that he left them with. Lots of love, Massive Penis.

9 years ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 0

I too enjoy Fenders.

Looks like an LP body style, but the headstock doesn't quite look right. Still, I love lp bodies haha
