I once had to swerve to avoid one of these motherfuckers because it was sitting in the road, holding bloody entrails and hissing at me.

I've got a really fat one living under my porch. I call him Mr Bitey, after the one of Simpsons Fame. he a good boy.

I raised chickens and they are definitely a pest, but I always still thought of them as cute

Tlacuache

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i have 3 or so of these little furry bastards that come up on my porch every night and eat the cat food i leave out for them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A possum murdered my kitttens when I was 8. I carry a grudge for that.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The big ones will tear up a dog. The dog might win in the end, but it's a costly fight.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Got tons o these guys in Dallas

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

”Some may think I’m ugly, but I’m more scared than scary” My new tinder bio.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn right!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad pet one on accident thinking it was our cat and he never knew.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's awesome. Didn't know these critters were so handy, thanks!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They also ate all my avocados just before they were ripe enough to pick. One bite and they'd drop it wasting awesome avocados. Destroy them

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So are there no possums in Central America or are there multiple marsupials there?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One time I accidently ran one over. Another time I had to chase one out of the garage with a broom. I feel bad about both incident's.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This pic is as cute as they get; in the wild, or even in my city yards, they are ugly AF. They smell (my dog fought one, the saliva reeks).

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Part of their panic response, they smell dead when they play dead.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, except for equine protozoal myeloencephalitis.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That's the bravest rat I've ever seen.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They've short lifespans, however, as they are very susceptible to many other parasites. They are usually covered in fleas. Still love 'em.

8 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 2

I think it's less that they're susceptible to parasites and more that they never had a reason to adapt longer life cycles.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's counterpart the possum lives for about 10 years and has one baby per year. Opossum have what? 10?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And I love them too :) , I've had the opportunity to work with these little guys and they can be quite adorable.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also, keep away from dogs. Mine thought the mother was a chew toy. We were able to save the babies at least.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They've been expanding their range northward. I worry about them with their naked pink feet and tails in the snow.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't worry. They're freaks who have a naturally lower body temperature compared to other mammals

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna eat some trash I got 20 babies in my pocket. I'm stalking waiting for your garbage, I'm a fuckin possum

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How did I instantly get the tune right. Literally within the first 4 words

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unless you have chickens.

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

You have my upvote. I shoot them because they eat my chickens.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yep, I was looking for this exact comment. They better find themselves somewhere else to chill.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Or young barn cats

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Or horses. They can carry a horse neurological parasite in their urine.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Possums break into feed rooms and make a mess. I've killed 5 this winter so far.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Build a better feed room.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's not a very 'Murican solution, now is it?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never seen them in Canada, I'm guessing they're more on the west coast?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ummm...US is south of Canada.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

No shit... What's your point? I'm saying I've never seen them in Canada, I'm guessing they're more in the Canadian West where its warmer

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We have them in Ontario.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Never seen them either.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just read a little about them, apparently they're only found in the southern most part of Ontario. They are terribly adapted for cold

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We have them in Michigan.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm talking about Canada though , I've seen plenty in the states

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except they will kill and attempt to eat literally any animal that weighs 10 lbs or less. The only good Opossum is a dead one. I swerve to

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hit them with my truck.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The North American opossum got mixed with the Australian possum. We should have theirs, they should have ours.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I know, right? It's the one creature of which Oz doesn't have the nasty, terrifying version.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No thanks. I’m quite fond of our possums. Even if they do have turf wars outside my bedroom window at 4am

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I didn’t know they thought they were ugly . :((((

8 years ago | Likes 296 Dislikes 7

I think they look funny & cute.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're very cute and sweet. I had one as a pet.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I think they are very cute, they look like a mix between a rat and a ferret kind of stuff

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dont think theyre ugly but some of them look rowdy af lol

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Compare to the Aussie Possum the Opossums are the ugly hillbilly blacksheep.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

A rare case of Australia getting North America's animal and North America getting Australia's animal.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Surprisingly soft fur though.

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

They make socks out of it in Australia. Other things too, I would imagine

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

They're only ugly because they're dinosaurs. Stupid as all hell, mean, but they're one of nature's perfect creations.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Here, you have to kill them if you trap them or racoons. Both are considered vermin here

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We're not!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He's calling you the pretty one, he's talking about opossums

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a cultural thing. They're raised from an early age thinking that they're ugly. There's a famous experiment in the 1960s of (1/?)

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 2

presenting young possom girls with dolls and invariably they choose the white human doll instead of the possom doll. When asked about it

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 2

they said that the white doll was pretty and the possom one was ugly. And we wonder why they have higher poverty and crime statistics.

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 3

Wish I could favorite these comments

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You, sir/madam, are brilliant!

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

What the hell happened here. Is it to early or are you telling me scientists gave possum females dolls?

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Holy shit it is too early. I just went back and reread. Carry on good person.

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Plus, they scream at own ass.

I must ask: What's the difference between a possum and an opossum? If it's interchangeable then fuck that extra syllable, I'm a busy man

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I believe Opossum is the correct spelling. Possum is the abbreviation.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Judging by the downvotes, I am wrong. Don’t listen to me. :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Opossum is the Irish breed. Like O’Grady, O’Har, and so on...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The O

Whats the difference between a bat and a cat?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the best comment so far ! I give an upvote

"When a Possum reached LV16, it done evolves inta an Opossum." -Pop Team Epic ch35

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Since no ones said it yet, and I’m not sure from your comment if you realize it or not, the o is silent, it’s just spelled that way.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The O is not silent at all. The name comes from a Virginian Algonquian word with a fully pronounced O.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have literally never ever heard anyone say it with the o sound at the beginning. Not saying you’re wrong just saying that’s really weird!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Possums are from Australia, and are a different animal.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Most people in the states don't make that distinction, I've never heard a fellow American say opossum

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, you shouldn't. The O is silent. Saying "Oh-Possum" is incorrect.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The O is not silent. That's a slang version of the original Virginian Algonquian word. Correct pronunciation is oh-possum.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Looked it up, because I was curious. It's not slang, but there does seem to be a lot of debate about what is correct. Technically, both are.
