Willpower!

This is a big deal for me, guys! Go ahead and down vote me to oblivion if you feel the need. I'm proud of myself.

FP Edit: Holy Schnikes, guys! A silly post about Lucky Charms made it to the front page with over 4,000 points!? You guys are amazing. Here's my story:
I am a 27 year old woman, and I first started my weight loss journey in 2013 after a terrible relationship ended. I was miserable and close to 300lbs. I lost 100lbs, but never made it to my goal weight of 140. That is one of my biggest regrets! If I can give you any advice it would be to keep going! Keep up the momentum, because it's hard to get back there! I just finished my last semester of college, and in that few months I gained ~20lbs. I am on this diet/lifestyle change again in the hopes to FINALLY get down to my goal weight. I've always had problems with food, and it means so much to me the outpouring of advice and inspiration I have received from just a silly post about Lucky Charms!

Stay healthy, Imgur. You all are awesome.

Wasn't gonna down vote until I saw the description

This takes more willpower than you think. Very impressed well done

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know how you feel. Im in the process of cleaning out my kitchen of junk. I went grocery shopping today and only bought healthy food. Yay

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Send some willpower to me.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

(Getting up to pour a bowl of cereal)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Everyone else is having S'Mores...I'm eating watermelon. Be strong @OP

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did this a lot this week too! :D

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I found by making sure I have ready to eat healthy snacks it really helps when I am hungry and lazy. Pre-cut cold cantaloupe is the best!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good on ya! Diet and exercise is all about discipline and commitment. You got this!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know the pull of the charms, man. Kudos.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a really strict diet, no cereal?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

if you have a smart phone download the app my fitness pal and log anything you will or already ate to keep track of your calories

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I use myfitnesspal! It's my favorite app on my phone.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Awesome

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I couldn't do it,I'd eat it,lol congrats

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel ya. I have a serious problem with food some times. I have to take what victories I can get

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yea I just succumbed to a thick slice of ice cream cake. No victories for me today. :c

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's how to do it! People who say diets don't work are people who break them too soon.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People need to view a diet as a permanent change, not some trend to break once you lose those 10lbs or what have you.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to be one of those until I grew a pair and stuck to a diet

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People regret eating lucky charms? Usually I just regret going back for a second plateful of pasta. Really I only regret the last half plate

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Doesn't matter what you eat as long as it fits your macros.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

and actually, right after a bike ride is probably the optimal time for a few extra carbs...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This!! IIFYM then have the damn cereal! You are only setting yourself up for a binge by not eating what you crave.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No, you are also re-learning to enjoy clean foods (eg eating fruit instead of sweets for a sugar craving). That said, IIFYM is great for poo

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Are your Lucky Charms for sale then?

9 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

Gently used

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Free to good home

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

That gave me a chuckle

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

fuckin' right mate. Keep it up.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Bravo ! I am cutting sugar out of my diet and I know how freaking hard it is. The trick is to always have healthy options at hand.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Me too, sometimes I take a bite of a cookie then catch myself and spit it out into the bin. Keep going, we can do it!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm cutting carbs and sugar and it's insane I had headaches for three straight days when I started.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sugar is practically a drug. When we cut it out we get a nasty hangover. Probably sign 1 that it's bad for us.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You poured milk in a cereal box?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm guessing they put the cereal in first before the milk. Confused me since I usually do it the other way around

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Actually I'm a guy who pours cereal and then the milk, like a non-crazy person. OP is still crazy,They un-poured lucky charms. That's unlucky

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

:(

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Well played.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Poured milk straight into box, ate the whole thing

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Mmmm... Gotta try that

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Get healthy snacks (such as sunflower seeds or banana chips) and leave them out in a jar/bowl on the counter near your snacks. You'll 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Banana chips are like 80% fat. Not exactly healthy.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dried ones are much lower in fat content, and the low carb content keeps the calories low, despite the fat content.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

find yourself snacking on them way more, partially due to the power of suggestion, but largely just out of sheer laziness. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

As a side note most banana chips are fried not dried so they're actually not super healthy (sadly because they're delicious)

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Worthwhile note, and definitely important to check. Though, even fried, they're still healthier than other fried chip options.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but it would have been better if you had put them back into the box BEFORE you put the milk on.

9 years ago | Likes 264 Dislikes 2

Yeah I was hoping they hadn't poured milk before rebagging it

Boi goddamn that joke flew so high over your fucking head mate

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Not all of us can be fuck Louis CK, bro... oh wait...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm upvoting you out of pity, not because I agree with you.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's the joke flying over finnisharmy's head!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was thinking this exact thing then I realized I am not a smart man.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I came here for this comment

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

What you need to do, is get rid of that kinda stuff form inside your house. It'll prevent you from consuming it "by mistake"

9 years ago | Likes 976 Dislikes 4

I'm in the process of phasing such stuff out of my pantry. Not going away quick enough!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Seriously. Only go to the grocery store on a full stomach and buy only healthy food. So when you're at home drunk/sad junk food isnt there

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Completely right. Eventually you won't even be tempted by it anymore.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Buy oatmeal, nuts, and a ton of dried fruit. Eat that in place of sugary cereal. Its still sweet, but its so much better for you.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Think of the possible children.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah I know better by now not to buy cheetohs or oreos... I'll eat the entire fucking package in one day, feel sick, cry, keep eating them..

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's why I have no crisps, sweets, cakes, chocolate, candy or sodas in my flat

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get rid of the fuckinglucky charms????the lucky charms???

9 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 3

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for this.... Don't even buy the stuff - buy the healthy alternatives instead . Especially important while you are breaking old habits

9 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 2

I have to trick myself to doing the right thing a lot. Only purchase fresh food. Walk to far away places, now you gotta walk back. etc.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I do things like that too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everything happens for a reason. There are no mistakes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah send it to me

9 years ago | Likes 174 Dislikes 0

Or me

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me too!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly, get ride of your bike

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But who said you can't lose weight and eat this stuff too? People have to stop fearing food types and learn how to include them.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

You can as long as you regulate calories, but the bad stuff is usually higher cal with a lot poorer nutritional value.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well yeah obviously. There's no harm in the occasional treat as long as you're still in a caloric deficit you're going to lose weight.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I find for me that it's a better longterm exercise in willpower if I have the stuff and can fight against it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

meh willpower is more permanent.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 14

Will power is also incredibly important. Ability to make choices when faced with temptation is huge. Sorry you got downvoted.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Why did they downvote you? It's great to not have the stuff in the house if you aren't eating it. But yeah, you need willpower

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Told my sister this, she said its what her kids would eat. They dont need junk food. Especially kids. They'll eat what you buy.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Our kids get junk food cereal once a year, like on vacation. They know it's bad for them, but we don't want to be complete Debbie Downers.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Exactly. That's a poor excuse. Get them started with healthier foods while they're young.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

When I want to get rid of food, I just bring it to the office. Gone in seconds. I work with a bunch of starving 20-somethings.

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

As a once starving 20 something, thank you

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I love to bake...so I would bake and bring it to work so the 20-somethings would consume

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As a chronic moocher... I can guarantee your good will will be paid back in full eventually.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What about when you have kids who eat this stuff. Kind of hard.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

So buy your kids cereal that isn't just sugar in a bowl

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kids shouldn't really be learning to eat marshmallows for breakfast. Special treat breakfast sure, but not an everyday thing.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Agreed. Sugary crap does prey on children with bright colors and mascots, but it's a matter of not giving in to the requests of bad food.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should probably replace those Lucky Charms with something that isn't approximately 3000% sugar and Mexican mole rats.

9 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 6

Mexican mole rats are pretty high in protein

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

Not as high as say the flesh of the unborn or kale but pretty high

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Imagine the amount of protein in the flesh of unborn kale...

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Lucky Charms aren't all that bad. 11g of sugar, about 20% recommended daily value, which is fine for breakfast if you're having 1 serving.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

I'm pretty sure all this breakfast cereal is crap for you. Why should anyone be having sugar for breakfast? Eggs and bacon for me

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sure everyone is just lining up for their thimble full of Lucky Charms.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yep and people don't realize they're as good/bad as honey Cheerios, yet nobody thinks those have a lot of sugar, both have a lot of vitamins

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And Lucky Charms are now made of whole grains. Not that this makes them GOOD, but they're hardly the devil.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're %37 sugar by weight, that's fucking ridiculous.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honey Nut Cheerios are 25% sugar by weight. Breakfast cereals tend not to be good for you, but we eat them in small portions.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah definitely a healthy and balanced breakfast ??? Please do not give health advice to my patients.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They have many nutrients in them intentionally and are far below DV in sugar, body needs carbs/sugar to survive, dont be a naïve twit kthx

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're nuts and probably very unhealthy on the inside. They are PROCESSED, there's healthy carbs and sugars. Lucky charms are not that.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

KTHX

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But by all means keep pretending you know health, read any textbook on nutrition and you will not find sugary breakfast cereal.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One serving is 3/4 cup. Who eats that little? That small "serving" contains 10g of sugar, which is 2.5 teaspoons of sugar!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Honey Nut Cheerios have 9g per 3/4 cup serving. 2.5tsp of sugar is an irrelevant measurement designed to scare. Just eat a single serving.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, a small handful of lucky charms anyone? Who the heck eats that little. Lucky charms aren't nutritious anyways.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How is it irrelevant

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, 10 grams of sugar is 2 teaspoons, not 2.5.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It serves no actual purpose. It's NOT two tsp of sugar; it's a lot more food, with a lot of constituent ingredients.
