I always upvote Portillo's.

portillos is the best start to un- vegetarian there is.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Portillo's, great choice!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What are you talking about? You have medication because you don't eat meat? That is fucking crazy, I want to know more about it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Humans are really meant to be omnivores. Some people have a really hard time getting the nutrients needed for health out of greenery.

Hey. You seem nice and all and we can all agree that you are cute but please don't use Imgur like IG.

That's Ron Swanson level eating.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Nah. Just your average Chicagoan

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wouldn’t you have to ramp up your meat eating slowly? I would imagine it’s a shock to your system otherwise.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

SO MUCH POOPERY!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Or rather, the opposite.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Slow or not doesn't really matter. You'll probably have the standard lower GI problems for about a week, give or take.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mreh. I ate vegetarian for more than 2 years. The first thing I ate was a Baconator from Wendy's. Was fine.

I love meat. I will say though that you can be healthy and vegan. You just have to eat the right food.

The shake is awesome, but dat cake tho. mmm

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still a selfie but it's a hot girl so you bitches upvote it?? Have you no moral compass?

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 4

The portillos overrides the selfie rule as it is more important.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This is not a selfie, a selfie is a picture one takes of their self. This was taken by another person, so not a selfie.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

She also said she's eating meat now. Imgur loves that for reasons?...

I moved out of Illinois and miss the hell out of Portillos

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They have a website, my uncle from Illinois orders it to my fams house every xmas. Portion we get feeds like 8 ppl +they ship w/ dry ice

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So good.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For a chain restaurant, they're pretty bang-on for Italian beef and dogs.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Its weird that its a chain now

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I remember when the only one I knew was near Woodfield Mall outside of Chicago.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes! In Lake Villa. That place was magical as a kid. Chili cheese dogs all the way

As a former Illinoisan, I can't stand Portillos. The Italian beef is dry and the fries are bland. Fight me.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You're bland...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sadly, this is true.

+1 for Portillo's. I wish they would bring those restaurants down to the South.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Dick Portillo retired and sold the business. The new group is expanding nationwide. Now have 2 locations in greater Tampa, FL area.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I, too, name mine. I call him Dick Indifference. Soon to be nationwide, as well.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can order it nationwide and have it overnighted. Not quite the same but it gets you your fix :) still rooting for them to open one in TX

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Who downvoted this? If you don't mind tattoos,in my opinion, that makes you a great person.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Rather have a girl with tattoos than a girl who does drug

I recommend a good ostrich steak.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I second that recommendation. Just as tasty as beef, but much healthier.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

does it have the same issue as bison about being really dry if you're not careful?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. Ostrich is a very juicy meat that is more difficult to overcook than beef. Much like dark chicken meat.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm still looking to find some decently priced bison around here :(

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How does that work? You just decided one day "I actually don't care about animals or the environment"? Genuinely curious.

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 30

I didn't take any offense to this, btw. It's a fair question.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Don't see why the comment is being downvoted. It's a good question although it may come across in the wrong way.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I'm interested in her choice and express sympathy for her condition but the downvotes are raining in. And I'm the snowflake? People be mad.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

That doesn't sound "genuinely curious." It sounds like you are on your high horse trying to make someone feel bad.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 6

Mmmmmm horse.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

God damn orcs...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

mmmh, I had the same question and I feel genuine enough. The thing is, people when becoming vegetarian, usually go through this guilt [1/]

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

, shame, self-disappointment period, where you know the facts and you also know you don't want to hurt the animals/the planet, but you also

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

love the taste of bacon, so... ~~~ this can end with either supressing and forgetting it all or becoming vegetarian - in OP's case it was

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

clearly the latter. As a fellow meat-give-upper, this process is familiar though, thus the curiosity. Cheers

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This makes it sound like anything that eats meat doesn't care about animals or the environment

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

well yea lol, not enough to stop eating meat : D?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It wasn't made quite so casually. I have complicated anemia - going back to a diet w/ meat was more appealing than life-long medication.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 5

I always tell people I could never be a vegetarian because Id die of anemia! Im sorry for your struggle, it sucks and I feel you.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That makes sense. Still though, do you feel weird about it? Even though you have to do it?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

I'm still deeply involved in animal activism. I still can't eat meat "off the bone" because that weirds me out.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Ribs and chicken wings are my favorite food. I'm glad you are still in to animal activism, but are back to eating meat.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Cricket powder might be a option that can fit you. High on iron, animal based, easily absorbed,

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

and (in my opinion at least), one of the more ethical animal proteins. Fairly humane farming and killing, and low environmental impact.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's really rough. I'd be so upset if I had to eat meat again, I think you're really brave.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 13

Why don't you eat meat? Is it a moral decision or a health one?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

because life is short.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

It will be for a couple of more animals now.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting that this is getting downvotes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Probably because its not real or funny or helpful

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

100% real. Definitely not funny. Possibly helpful to young ment My guess is that veg women do not want this information to be well known.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah, so it is actually the exact opposite. People get increased sex drive from going veg. Look it up.

Meat for medicinal purposes

8 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

Careful with how much meat you start with....your body might not be used to it and won't have enough enzyme to handle it right away.

Develop a taste for oysters. Will help a lot with that.

Good plant sources of iron include lentils, chickpeas, beans, tofu, cashew nuts, chia seeds, ground linseed, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel you. Anemic w/a tendency to not eat enough to start. Gave up and went back to meat. Don't regret it but do intend to be more ethical

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry to break it to you but there is nothing ethical about eating meat.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

That’s fair. And there are a lot of ethical options now, if that’s a concern.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been vegetarian for over 20 years. It can be done successfully. Healthy and rarely sick. Was sick more when I ate meat.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Were you lacking iron? Just wondering

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 7

That’s what being anemic is.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 11

Iron deficiency is something you can supplement or even get in a vegetarian diet. Iron fortified cereal is a thing. If it's not 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

A condition causing anemia, then it's not that hard. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That seems to be unusually common. I had a friend who had a similar experience

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My aunt and my dad (they're not related) both developed legume allergies and can't go veg.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ouch. That wipes out a lot of veggie options straight off the bat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anemia now or heart disease later. Life's a tricky bitch, ain't she.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

meat is fucking awesome

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

Hmm.. curious what your veg diet was... you can get all you need from plants, including iron (nuts)

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Chlorella vs spirulina is in general better if you are really low on iron.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't know the science behind it but isn't iron from meat better absorbed than iron from plant sources?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Anemia!??? Ha. I can see that extra tire. No fear of gaining weight there.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

I get that. I was a vegetarian for 18 years and recently switched to pescatarian. Getting lean protein was so hard. I feel a little 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

guilty about it, but it's so much easier. If anyone has fish recipes/suggestions, I am taking them 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

There is plenty of iron to be found in many beans and leafy greens, as well as fortified sources like cereals, breads, and granola bars.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Yup. The body absorbs it a bit slower though, and for some, the effort to get enough is not worth the hassle.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good for you, veganism is almost impossible to make as healthy as a well balanced diet

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 15

I disagree - you just have to make sure you’re hitting enough calories and power through veggies. Plus some supplements.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Sorry but your opinion doesnt supersede empirical fact. All health authorities across the planet recommend a well balanced diet.

Yeah because whike humans can live on a vegetarian diet, it's not optimal by any stretch.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 8

Yes it is optimal, people just don’t educate themselves enough on proper nutrition. Do it right and it’s far superior to carnism.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

No, it isn’t. Sincerely, an actual dietitian.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

An uneducated one then. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19562864

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You’re wrong. Sincerely, truth.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't disagree that factory farming is messed up, but Vit B12, D, and creatine are basically non existant in plants = not optimal.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

how hard is it to take a Vitamin d or b12 supplement? How expensive? pennies a day. No excuse to continue abusing animals

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

B12 is fortified in animal feed(so basically you’re supplementing), vitamin D go out in the sun, your body produces the creatine you need.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds to me like we still aren't evolutionary enough to survive without meat, as some people would like to believe.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

Me too! I constantly looked like I had just walked out of a bar brawl during lacrosse season.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

As a die hard carnivore, you CAN get all you should have from a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. It's hard. Even harder with medical issues.

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 8

Another caveat: if you're extremely physically active, it's even harder. Maybe impossible to get 'perfect' nutrition depending on needs.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

it's very easy

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can also apparently survive on an all-meat diet so long as you eat diverse meats. People from colder climates supposedly handle it best.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm switching to somewhere in between. Reducing meat in a big way. But I have weight to lose too. When I want to maintain who knows.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or you can eat some meat, and not have to work NEARLY as hard.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Followup note: Most vegetarians get enough to live, but not enough to thrive. See Bill Clinton's diet for an example of good compromise.

I'm a bit confused by this. She's a vegetarian, but eats eggs?

somehow survives on the great protein source eggs, how does she do it.

Personally if I were going to go that route, I'd adopt a diet from a successful vegetarian culture. I'd probably go for Indian, myself.

Define successful? Alive but lacking nutrition that helps you grow, heal, fight disease, etc? Check the life expectancy in that success...

Lacking what exactly?

What and eat nothing but tarka dhal and chana masala for every meal? Oh no wait, yeah that sounds incredible actually... Mmm

With sides of saag aloo, bajis and naan

Exactly. :)

1/2Oddly I had the opposite effect. I had bad anemia while eating meat (til 24) but going veg made me more conscience about a balance diet.

2/2 Having a balanced diet is really key, meat or no meat. My fibromyalgia is has way less flare ups and w/o meat less stomach aches.

not to mention how many different animal parts are used to make the ink in all your tattoos..

Most good quality tattoo ink is vegan these days.

I was in the same boat, vegetarian/vegan for 10 years. Went back to meat for health reasons and gained 30 lbs and look like a healthy adult

It's almost as if humans are omnivores that are meant to eat both plants and other animals.

Good for you for catching the point of what I was saying!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My point was that Veganism is stupid.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Same here, I was dangerously underweight.

Dude, if I were to gain 30lbs i'd go from "enjoys carbs"- to "He accepted no one will ever love him but food"-bodyshape

I was skinny with no shoulders now I just kind of grew shoulders and some muscle. Some belly fat too but not terrible. 165lb to 195ish

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ha, I had the opposite problem. Tried going vegetarian, but ate too much carbs and gained weight.

When I was vegan I literally lived off beer and pasta, no idea how I gained zero weight.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Cuz pasta is life

I have a buddy like that, he’s vegan by religion. Eats way to much sugar and bread. He complains plants dont keep him full

Sounds like he needs more plant based fat. Olive and coconut oils for example.
