When the managers say "demand" they mean how much computational power their AI needs to do what they, the managers, want to do, not what customers want.

That is not business demand.

https://arstechnica.com/ai/2025/11/google-tells-employees-it-must-double-capacity-every-6-months-to-meet-ai-demand/

Sounds like something the AI itself would say it needs in order to achieve singularity.

The "AI" isn't even right. I was trying to figure out a part on a project and it just picked the wrong one. Not even close.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The bubble getting closer to bursting yet?

4 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I keep disabling every attempt to have any "AI" functions on any of my devices. It's flawed, garbage software.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Hey, we're turning off the opt out on another service, and are going to start scanning everyone's 10 year backlog for any evidence they might like a hot chocolate. Oh, yeah, the models seem to be chugging, can you just double the world's computational capacity? These users are really hooked on AI!"
The only ones addicted to AI are the ones that are dumber than the models they keep pushing...

They really mean is, build more data centers in rural communities and destroy our water supplies and hike up our electric bills.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AI is going to doom this world, not because it's intelligent and will rule over us, but because it will jack up our prices insanely on the energy front while also cooking the earth.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nah. Let it burn, homie.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It still blows my mind that cryptocurrency and AI requires *so* much water and energy simply to tell us that Elon Musk can drink piss better than anyone else.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

These companies know that they're pushing a bad product that the majority of people don't want. They've already wasted so much money that their only real option is to make it "too big to fail" and make it the problem of governments to cover the costs.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am so proactively avoiding AI I can't begin to tell you.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

AI needs to die now. This is destroying the planet.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ad companies are users, too.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

FFS, what do you think that does to the power grid and water supply? All so we can get AI that tells us for stringier pizza to put Elmer's glue in the cheese. Someone needs to go Sarah Connor on these people.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i can't wait for AI to crumble and all the companies that fired their employees will be screwed

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Every new article about "Guys, we need so much infrastructure to do AI stuff" always boils down to "So don't do the obviously stupid AI stuff and this wouldn't be an issue with existing infrastructure".

4 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

The 'problem' is if they don't do the obviously stupid AI stuff, they're going to lose a LOT of money because they all got WAY too horny WAY too fast and blew their loads putting everything on some AI tech revolution that isn't going to happen. So now they're doing shit like this to try and force it, and it's not gonna work either, but in the meantime, they're going to destroy so many products and do so much environmental damage, all because they can't admit they fucked up.

They have investors to consider, after all...

4 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Investors only care about growth. They all plan to jump ship (aka sell it all) before it all crashes.
Some won't be able to

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So exponential growth? Simple three brain cells activity tells us that that is not sustainable. Goddammit

4 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yep. That growth only lasted for like 50 years with CPUs.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

CPUs did not experience exponential growth, they experienced logarithmic growth.

Exponential growth is fundamentally impossible on any appreciable scale within physical reality. You can do things that ostensibly appear to experience exponential growth within a certain band pass, but when you zoom out, it's either logarithmic or logistic growth.

Customers

Don’t

Want

AI

4 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

*ignorant customers. Just like the calculator, smartphone, and internet before AI, if you don't adapt, you "die" --- or become Amish. Even easier access to info, plan a vacation, write music, automate just by talking, better city planning, self-driving cars. I fail to see why customers don't want AI... We all have microwaves as a result of military spending. Even if you disagree with military budget, you got a benefit, and same is true of AI.

So glad I finished moving myself out of the Google ecosystem about 10 years ago.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Tell us how

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How I did it won't fit into Imgur comments, but if I had to start today, I'd use https://privacyguid">.org">https://privacyguides.org and https://alternativeto.net as my guides to better alternatives.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just tackle one thing at a time. Try a new browser this week. Try a new search engine next week. Move your e-mail the week after. Etc.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh yay, more greenhouse gasses, just what we need

4 months ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 2

Don't forget the e-waste and water usage

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yep. Climate experts were ringing alarm bells because Google's total carbon footprint increased by 50% over a mere 5 years due to AI that no one asked for or needed. Now they threaten to DOUBLE it EVERY YEAR. This is the point where activists need to start blowing up datacenters. If legislators sit on their hands when they aren't cashing checks, this is the only way.

4 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

More than double a year, double twice in the year. 1yr =4x, 2yr=16x, 3yr=64x, 4yr=256x, 5yr=1024x

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I actually think strategic, constant, and random sabotage to power lines and water intake/outlets would be more feasible.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We will maybe see a rise in ecoterrorism in the following years is my guess

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The place I'm at just added AI metrics to the developers to punish people who don't use AI enough.

It's a bit dystopian.

4 months ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 1

Hey sounds familiar haha. For me, the ai usage is self reporting and how they determine if AI helped or not is a hilariously flawed system.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Grab one of the AI agents and make it ask random questions to whatever AI they're measuring on.

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

When we had our big users conference with our software vendor, I was the only one on the team who's stuck with not a single process that could be automated. I legit can't make use of AI at this time. The suggestion of letting AI scan my civil plans and input the utility models from those plans is nonsense because the line types, specs, and dimensions aren't written on every line. You have to know which callouts from the details sheets goes where. Same for the CAD models.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

So, an AI usage quota?

Quit.

Quit right fucking now.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They *want* you vibe coding? I mean if upper management is ordering you to ruin the company, I guess you have to? lol

4 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

point to COD, yeah... forcing ai doesn't help sales

4 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I work for a government department in the uk. The sheer suckfest and wankery management has over ai is appalling. So you get code from a hallucinating robot, how are you supposed to verify it's correctness? Answer: ask ai to guarantee it. Thank you so very fucking much.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wait until you have to justify feeding it confidential or secure compartmentalized data that you know is being sent to an offsite server you don't control and is used to build a data model others can see. If I showed a third party contractor that same data and sent them out with copies, I'd lose my security clearance, my job, and pay a >$10k fine. Make it make sense.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wow. That's just stupid.

4 months ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Everything has been stupid for like, ever. I'm so tired.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Are Luddites still a thing and do they have a website or something with a sign up sheet /s

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really hope the AI bubble burst very soon

4 months ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 0

An Apple report suggests AI capabilities have peaked. However, I think the usage of the current capabilities has not, but that will have to peak as well.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please let me sell my house and GTFO first

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's going to be far worse than the mortgage backed securities bubble of 2008...

4 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

yeah, the the longer before it pops, the worse its gonna get. the sooner the better. its already been too long.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's going to be a bloodbath. I've already moved my 401k into international index funds and bonds trying to batten down the hatches for when the storm hits.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I brought real gold with half of my savings. Gold historically is more stable than the dollar

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It will be like ripping off a giant bandaid. It won't be pretty, but I do believe it is inevitable. It just a matter of when

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

In part because they are using the same financial instruments, but through venture capital firms, so when they default there is nothing to take posession of.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, you having to deal with AI popping up like an add is totally equal to people losing their homes and going broke. Totally same thing, like you're both suffering the same. We can't wait for that right?

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

You are missing the whole point. It's the businesses that are heavily invested in AI. Tremendous money has been put in it. And if the bubble bursts with Trump in office? He's going to BAIL OUT all of those major companies, using taxpayer money, doubling the debt. It'll be absolute financial mayhem. US credit rating will tank. US dollar will fall. We'll be fucked.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It'd be so funny if they paid for the capacity beforehand and got stuck with it when the AI bubble bursts.

4 months ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

"Oh, no. At lot of excess computing capacity." said no one.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’d be a joke on all of us, cuz we’re all paying for it.

4 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Paying how? Even longer ads on youtube? We'll now have to click on page 2 of google because page 1 is all ads?

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

We foot the Bill for the energy and water costs. The infrastructure isn’t necessarily designed for the amount of usage requested

4 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

or the funds for improvements was stolen. that happened for my state

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just to start, we’re paying in terms of environmental effects. The energy/water needs of those data centers are enormous and will completely erase all gains made towards fighting climate change.

4 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Not to mention a rise in utility bills...

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well a fucked earth is a long term problem. The bursting AI bubble is a short term problem and that way the financial world is interconnected, this will be a major fuck up when it happens with immediate direct impact to all people worldwide.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I hate getting AI Bullshit shoved down my throat at every point... had to switch my whole youtube setup to english, because every seconds fucking video started to play with that aweful AI translation audio, which I couldnt just ignore like the crappy translated titles...

Fuck this whole AI Bullshit...

4 months ago | Likes 295 Dislikes 4

FreeTube friends. And if enough content you like is on it Nebula.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've never had this problem

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Even my fucking lessons are AI translation WHICH DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF THE FUCKING LESSON!
I so hate that bullshit, I don't want it in my OS> I don't want it in my videos. I don't want it in my fucking music.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a teacher, it’s getting shoved down our throats too. So annoying and we don’t want it!

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Boycott yt if you are able.

4 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Tubular is a good alternative on your phone. From the Hub of Git.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its so annoying, im learning Japanese, and German, and speak French, yet all of these vids that I WANT in these languages just get dubbed over for no godamn reason, and to top it off, you cant switch the audio track like half the time on mobile, it just doesnt work. So godamn stupid

4 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Exactly this.
Fuck, I listen to ASMR I don't understand. Super relaxing, especially languages with certain phonetic sounds like Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Then SOMEHOW a few videos get an AI dub and it stops being a nice gentle whisper and just this painfully fake robotic bullshit noise blaring in my ear, ripping the entire aesthetic to shreds.
FUCK OFF WITH THIS! ARGH!

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel that. I'm bilingual but Youtube only allows one language. I almost skipped over some videos that had auto-translated titles.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I ended up adding a plugin on my browser to restore non-translated titles.
