Always nice to see this, had to do this when my dog had two discs collapse into his spinal cord (in his neck). Amazing the recovery time

My Shiba had a stroke and it took her about a month to walk normally again. She still has some weird muscle movements but barely noticable.

Thats old dog vestibular disease,(probably) not a stroke. Just rest and care to recover from. Common, not life threatening. 1/1
This is the internet whoring for sympathy and praise.
homer4evr
That is Vestibular disease not a stroke. Common in elderly dogs, most can completely recover. Some are left with a head tilt
leodavinci1
Yes, most likely. Started to post this. SO's 16 year old Poodle mix was doing the same thing. Saved by a vet who knew the difference.

I was given the choice when my chi had his stroke. 2 years later he’ll be sharing his 16th Yule with us, walking and with minimal nystagmus
IlluminaBlade
What really happens when you forget how to walk? do your motor controls just get completely shredded and you're back at newborn level?
loldongs10000
In a nutshell, yes. The brain needs to relearn to play ball with your extremities.

This is incredibly sweet, but a good vet will never tell you to put your pet down. They will give you the facts, the options, and if asked
MissAizea
My vet told me I should put my horse down, told me she was already toxic and wouldn't survive the transport to the hospital.
opinions. Stop painting vets in a negative light, they may have advised euthanasia if they were truly concerned with the dog's comfort.

Always suspicious of summaries like “told to put her down”. I’m sure the vet was like, “Death is only option.”

This. Thankfully it doesn’t look to be in any pain, but it if we’re it would be best to rid of the suffering, even though it’s hard.

My dog had a stroke right as my grandfather went to the hospital to get a surgery. Things went South and he was in a coma for a year until /
He died. Truth be told we would have just put her down she was getting pretty old. But we didn't want him to come home and his dog be dead./
But in the end I'm happy we did. She had another three good years. She wasn't the same, but she was happy. So in the end it was worth it.
Zalagzny
After dad had his and he recovered he refused to acknowledge that it had happened. Glad to see this pupper has the same level of fk that!!

I'm trying to figure out if her tail moves weirdly because of the stroke or that she's a greyhound?

When my cat was diagnosed w/ diabetes at 3.5yrs old, the vet told me I'd be "lucky" to get 6 yrs out of her, & "the kindest thing you can>
Do is to let her go now, before she becomes insulin resistant in a couple years." It's been just over 4 yrs, & she's still fighting.>
I won't give her up until she tells me it's time.

I had the similar thing with my hedgehog (she was fighting a tumor for 2yrs). Eventually had to put her down :(

It seems obvious to me that euthanazia should be the last resort. We are able to stop animals' suffering when all other treatments 1/2
