After wisdom teeth extraction

I will gladly polish off a family sized Stouffer's lasagna in her place.

This is really funny, but my only question is why would you take someone who just had their wisdom teeth pulled into a food market? Shouldn't you get them home to rest?

Immediately was like “wisdom teeth?” And sure enough

Same reaction I had when I learned my aunt's delicious apple crumble was made with apples from a can. Only found out when pre marriage I managed to convince my wife to make apple crumble and told her my aunt peeled the apples by hand in hers trust I liked so much. After making a delicious apple crumble and peeling the apples by hand she quietly asked my aunt one Christmas if she peeled the apples in hers. The reaction was along the lines of ain't no one got time for that.

I've been duped into making a gluten-free, lactose free, vegetarian lasagne for Christmas for the inlaws.. I feel like crying but maybe the tears will add to the flavor.

I had 4 wisdom teeth extracted in Sweden, they had to drill into my jaw to get the lower ones out. I got local anesthesia for it. Is it somehow cheaper to drug people up This much in the US? 🤷‍♀️ Or is it only for people who are terrified of going to the dentist?

Wait till she finds out about Santa and the tooth fairy.

My older brother had these vivid memories of enjoying our grandmothers homemade cream pudding, finally a few years ago, while he and his girlfriend were visiting our grandparents he manned up and asked her for the recipe. Turns out, she's been using a pudding powder from the local supermarket since forever, as she said, she never had time to make pudding with all the other cooking she was doing.

What kind of Italians it makes us?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Od rather buy Lasagna if I want it constantly. Having made it a few times, it always takes a good long while just to get it ready, and then to bake. It's a lit of effort. It tasted Hella good, but I was exhausted every time I hand made lasagna.

Wait till she finally realizes that fresh squeezed Orange Juice happened without ever buying oranges!

My Italian mom would have the same reaction if I bought lasagna

If lasagna tears her up, life will hit her like a ton of bricks

Why? Stouffers frozen lasagna is pretty damn good.

Is it a forbidden topic to talk about how some countries don't really do this kind of anesthesia for wisdom teeth? I've had two pulled (one was crushed and taken out in pieces) and I only had local anesthesia for both.

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

I'm in Canada, I had one pulled a few months ago, only local was needed. I could've opted for general if I chose to go to a surgeon /1

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

/2 instead of my usual dentist. The surgeon would've been required if it hadn't already erupted, I don't know if general would've been req.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had 4 removed, 2 of them (badly) impacted. Surgeon decided general anesthesia was best. Got surgered at 2 pm. Woke up around 6pm. A bit groggy (as usual with general anesthesia) but not at all stoned like that poor lady. I was home 1h later.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I had the same thing, 4 removed at once, put under for it and just woke up feeling normal.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In my country it depends on the level of difficulty of removal. All 4 of mine were removed as a teenager. General anesthesia. I know others who have had 1 or 2 removed at a time by the same dentist and it was local anesthesia.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some of those countries include the US. I'm in the process of planning my wisdom teeth extractions, and they asked what type I wanted. A friend of mine just had 2 non-wisdom teeth pulled. For the first, he was given local. For the 2nd one, he was headed somewhere right after and didn't want to deal with the numbing, so he passed on even the local anesthetic.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When I was about +20 yrs old, I got 4 wisdom teeth pulled out. One exploded between the pliers, one needed to cut into pieces due hook like roots and two came off nicely. All in two weeks and just local anesthesia. No need for anything else.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Though, watching how US uses all kind of medicines and medicinal products, most of them looks way too overkill. Especially painkillers and antibiotics.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I'm in the US, and all my wisdom teeth were crushed and taken out in pieces over a period of time.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the US you can choose depending on the difficulty of the extraction and how much anxiety you have about dental work. I opted for full anesthesia because I was having all 4 surgically removed at the same time

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I got to pick (NZ). I picked local primarily because general would have cost more and been riskier.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am in the US and have never had general anaesthesia for dental work. I have never gone to one of those "we'll knock you out for basic procedures" places, though.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I will never understand people who film this and then post it online for the entire world to ridicule her forever

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 8

I would love to see a video of me waking up from the GA, if only to see 3 nurses doting on me to keep my agitated self lying still. No recollection after really waking up.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if she herself found it funny and was like, “yeah post this video of me”

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

not always ridicule, but still exposed to. imo this stuff should only be uploaded with something like informed consent, otherwise it's kind of unfair and a bit mean. not everyone wants to become a meme.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Who's ridiculing her? Sure, we're laughing at the situation, but no one is ridiculing her. Pretty much everyone who's had that procedure has some sort of bizarro story about the aftermath.

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 5

100% guarantee she laughs her ass off at this. I've never had an experience like this, but if I did and someone *didn't* film it and just told me later, I'd be so disappointed

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not ridicule to laugh collectively at a shared human experience. We all act like fools after anesthesia

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

Let me guess. Only child?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Usually I'm with you, but for real this one time, that "you think you know somebody" was a first round KO.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

I got a wisdom tooth pulled (read: crushed and the individual pieces picked out... but not all of em!!) and I was nothing but a cranky asshole all day. I wanna cry about lasagna!

2 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

i was almost completely nonverbal for 3 days. even over IMs and text, i went from using full sentences to "k". after the 3 days i was fine and back to my normal chatty self

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Trade ya.... I apparently noticed that my feet were numb and was fascinated by the lack of pain. So (and this part I do remember) I proceeded to beat the shit out of my lower legs and marvel at the lack of pain. Mom was trying to stop me, but she wasn't strong enough. Took a couple weeks for all the bruises to fade.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Really? I got all 4 out at the same time. Got an IV of, quote: anti-inflammatories, a steroid, and “a strong narcotic”. Still don’t know what opiate they gave me (I assume morphine?) but that’s probably the closest I’ll ever get in life to knowing what heroin feels like. Goddamn was it good once it kicked in, also why I’d never touch the stuff again outside of a hospital because I can see the appeal now. Opiate addicts: I see you. No thanks.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Apparently I went on an expletive laden rant about how terrible pop music is and warned the dentist you can "get thrush in your mouth and your cunt"

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What kind of drugs did they give you? I had an injection in the gums, nothing else. I drove home immediately after extraction.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same deal. Local anesthesia. Miserable experience.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had that but all 4 of them and then i got dry sockets on the bottom because the top drained into them and had to deal with it for a week. When they would clean the holes, i would sweat through my shirt and nurses held my arms down because it hurt so badly

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just wait till they find out that I’ve never baked a cake.

Can I have at least a fresh home made Coke then? *eyes watering*

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And why would you when there are plenty of definitely still alive humans that could do it for you?

I make brownies from scratch: 2 eggs, water, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, and Betty Crocker mix.

I would need to find a post, but theres one where bakers said that box cake with a few addtions gets you 90% as good as from scratch.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I made my daughter's bat mitzvah cake from box. Did make the chocolate mousse and ganache for frosting/filling from scratch. Super rich friends of my in-laws are there and the dude said he would hire me for the next event that needed a cake. People cannot tell the diff between box and scratch.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Alton Brown argues box cake is better, since it comes with additives that help greatly

His stuff is so good!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously, what kind of sedatives are you using? I've had several teeth removed, and I only ever felt numb, it never messed with my mind.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

General vs. local anesthesia, sounds like

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

General - is that narcosis? That seems a little extreme just for removing a tooth.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I elected to have general anaesthetic when I got all four of my wisdom teeth taken out at once because they were so low down in my jaw and I have severe anxiety about anything to do with the dentist. Like, verging on a panic attack just getting a checkup and hearing the tools. It was a long wait in the Medicare system (in Australia) but it was a better experience for everyone involved

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn, 4 at once?! That is wild. I've had 4 removed, but one at a time, that made it ok under local anesthetics.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Stretching it out over multiple operations was definitely not going to be better than all at once for me XD and it meant getting my braces on quicker, and then it didn't matter how much anxiety I had with my teeth because I could convince my brain it was out of my hands. But again, massive baby when it comes to dentistry and living off soup for two weeks and needing my jaw realigned was definitely worth it

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wisdom teeth can be harder? I had to have oral surgery to remove the one based on how it and a molar was interacting/near nerves and such. I got the spiked soda/laughing gas mix. I was disappointed the gas did not make me laugh

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had one of mine surgically removed, took an hour, and it was under local anesthetics as well. Took like 8 shots though, but it worked :-)

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

General anesthesia is way more fun though! haha Maybe not for her but lots of people are just super happy goofy instead of super sad goofy. You hardly remember it either way and you're being closely monitored and are not a danger to anyone.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sort of, sometimes. There's two generall types, one of them milder, but people use "General" for both. Scroll down to "During the procedure" about halfway down: https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/wisdom-tooth-extraction/about/pac-20395268

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right I was thinking of loss of consciousness. I see general anesthesia does that - but not necessarily narcosis. Still seems extreme to me.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Amusingly, my insurance will cover sedation, but not the bone graft than 3 different dentists say I need when I get my wisdom tooth pulled.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The best thing about your mom’s lasagna being bought from the store? It means you can have that lasagna any time you want.

2 years ago | Likes 643 Dislikes 2

Most storebought lasagna is vile. I'd rather eat it from a can than Stouffer's. Michael Angelos though is really very good.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My mum's potato salad is the best thing I've ever eaten and she refuses to tell me the recipe, "oh I just make it up as I go" THEN HOW COME ITS THE SAME EVERY TIME, tell me your secrets, woman!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My mom very rarely bought store made meals, which has had the opposite effect on me sadly. It's also a double whammy as evey time I visit, she always asks if there's a particular dish I want to eat, only to then get frustrated when I say "anything is fine".

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to rave about my aunts lasagna she used to serve at parties. I helped her once (after decades of her tasty lasagna) and found out it was fucking stouffers. I was severely taken aback, but my immediate thought was "fuck yeah, i can have my aunts tasty lasagna anytime i want!"

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Until they change the recipe or discontinue the brand, and then you can never have it again.

2 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 3

"improve" the recipe.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah, this summer Aldi changed their ice-cream. It doesn't taste as good now. Bastards.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This. This happens so goddamn often - if my mother wasn't making homemade, I'd have definitely noticed the change every few years, because not only do the change or discontinue them with a high degree of regularity, they all taste pretty significantly differently.

I haven't had a Mrs Paul's fishstick in years. The breading was almost sandy. Cane with a little pouch of chopped pickles to make tartar sauce.
