I Carve spoons in my spare time. Mostly at work when it's slow. The tools I use mostly is an axe, a knife, and a crook knife. I sand them a bit once they are carved to my liking them I coat in a mineral oil and beeswax solution.

Just a heads up certain woods have things in them when they reach a certain temperature, always good to look at toxicity levels for certain

I love it when people post their own creations! Could you post an album of something start to finish?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'm terrible at remembering to take photos until the end. I will keep it in mind the next spoon I carve.

You take a fucking axe to work? What the fuck. You're not even outside. You're at a desk! Where do you work?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's just a small one for carving. Its like 10 inches long.

Innocent query - mineral oil on items for food, is that...usual?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

TIL that it's called something different here and you're unlikely to be using carcinogenic oil on spoons. Thanks op I learned a thing.

How do you carve the concave part?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I use a Mora crook knife

I love the use of the reclaimed 134 year old lumber. That makes them VERY unique and interesting.

I'm more interested in your line of work that leaves you so much time to work on your hobby

Boss probably doesn't want to bust the ass of the guy with an axe on his desk

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or a workplace that lets him bring in an axe?

I was gonna comment that. Your gif is superior

I play a game where I try to predict what the top comment will be. I get disproportionately happy when I'm right. I was right just now. :)

I remember you and your kuksa! You've improved SO much! And you have wonderful tools. I see a Mora and a Gransfors Bruks, yes?

Are you on Instagram?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's how I discovered imgur. I was tired of wasting time on my phone so I found something different to do.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha but browsing Imgur seemed more subtle than carving with an axe at your desk

I work alone with one other person in a shipping yard. I coordinate freight deliveries all off site.

Ever considered carving a spork?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I would buy it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is awesome! Are you thinking about perfecting your new craft and selling some of the items?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eventually I would like to become better and make enough money to buy more tools. Probably not a sole profession though.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You must!

I fucking love spoons. They are some of my favorite objects. Gold star.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where the fuck do you work that you can bring wood carving knives in?

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I had a beer fridge in my office, sometimes life is kind.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right? Asking the real question

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Alaska. I manage a shipping and receiving facility. Not always busy. 10 minutes here and there does the job.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Very cool. You do amazing work!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also I work 2weeks on 2 off. So a lot if my free time outside of work gives me plenty of time to carve, and build projects.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nice work! Do you sell them anywhere?

9 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 0

Man I'd suck yo dick and give you a cheeseburger for some of those spoons

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Mostly I just make them as gifts and for the joy of creating things with my hands.

9 years ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 0

I'd like to buy one.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're super talented! I'd accept some of your joy!!

I do the same thing with Christmas ornaments I make on the lathe. It's a good stress relief and makes someone else happy.
