My cat was very sick

He had a massive infection in his Third eye

He was so upset, I thought he was going to die. I took him to a expensive vet and doctor did not help. Two days after i left the vet my cat was in worse shape ,his face was swollen as big as soft ball. I was distraught. I talked to my mother and she told me about her vet. He was a nice man and he could help my cat. I took him to the nice vet and he gave me pills to put in his mouth and a gel for his eye. And a great price. On the second morning his eye began to drain.

Draining the puss out.

After a day of draining and a day rest he is doing much better.

A week later

He is fine an very healthy. Rossco is doing great . thanks for reading bye

Sooooo glad it all went well <3

Please...my son, he's very sick

I'm glad for your cat and all but that's gross. I don't want to see that. Can people start putting a warning

Very close

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Price =/= quality of care, it can be a factor, but it's far from the only one.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rossco P Coltrane?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep someone got it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your cat is very cute and I can't even imagine your strength to help your furry friend. Congrats!

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

What cause the infection? Did the second vet diagnosed the problem?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ear mites got in his eyes, got drops to kill them

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

really?! ear mites in the eye … weird

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Glad your lil buddy is feeling better OP :)

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Ah, now he can go back to plotting to kill you. Now with depth perception! (Sidenote, glad he's better)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"A whole day of eating at sleeping" like it's different from any other day in the life of cat

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But was not eating anything, just sitting in the woods waiting to die. I could not stand for that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have the same experience with vet clinics. The fancy expensive ones never help. The crappy little ones do all they can and more.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Right, when I owned a rat the cheapie ones never argued why I was keeping him alive. Expensive ones told me to kill him. Like jeez thanks.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can't stand looking at animals with issues like this. Stop it

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Reminds me when my dog died. The vet charged us $400 and didn't do anything. It's hard to find vets and doctors that actually care now. :(

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Took my dog to my vet bit there was some strange lady vet there that day. Killed my dog.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry for your loss, but I find this hard to believe. So you got charged 400$, and all they did was a consultation/exam?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live with my parents atm but have my own pets (rabbits and a hamster) we have a great vets which makes me not want to move too far!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Literally been our family pets since we moved into the area 20 years ago and always had good advice and support.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel you fam. My kitty got an abcess. Had to remove the whole eye. She's a pirate kitty now. Can't jump too good but she sure is cute.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And then you have my cat before we took it to the vet

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He was in a fight with another cat and got scratched pretty bad. Had to sew 3 stings. Good now tho.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ouch...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do the second vet a favor and spread his name far and wide so animal lovers can go to him.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

OK I will tell you.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I can't read the pills...../a/sJsND

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't know what it was but it worked so well, the vet that saved my cats is new vet.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It looks like it may say Amoxicillin which would be about an appropriate dose for the size of your cat for a skin infection (1/6)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

(the developed additional swelling). NeoPolyDex ointment is an antibiotic and steroid that likely provided the brunt of the decreased (2/6)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Possibly amoxicillin?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the link. Have fun with your cat mate!

Lucky you. Mine died yesterday. Sadly, no one understood my post.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Don't be sorry. Honestly. Be happy and enjoy every moment if you can. But I appreciate it, and thank you.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Def ! I lost a 16 year old cat I had since her birth . 6 months later I got adopted again .

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm so sorry for your loss

Losing your little furry love one can be hard. They part of the family. I've lost many of mine over the decides, and it never gets easier.

I thought carrying the basket with a sick cat to die war hard. I realized, carrying the empty basket back is MUCH harder.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yeah, if you ever wake up cat from a super deep sleep you'll see the lil flap...creepy sometimes!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lol, third eyelid is what is meant. Be cool if cats had a third eye. Actually, that would explain a lot about cats

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Third eye lid? I have no idea.

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Whispering eye

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One eye on the left, one eye at the back in the middle (assuming he wasn't neutered) and one on the right

Some cats will lift up their tails and wink at you with their "first eye"

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Mine doesn't just wink at me with it he stares at me whilst siting inches from my face.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, he is clearly Tiens cat

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

nictitating membrane. dogs have them, too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah dude, didn't you know? What did you think dogs are barking at when you can't see anyone?....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Third eye-lid actually

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

He means brown eye

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Cats, dogs and a lot of other animals have a cartilage flap called the nictitating membrane which as a 3rd eyelid to protect/clean the eye

8 years ago | Likes 1464 Dislikes 2

And it goes sideways.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oooooooooh

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Thanks science side of Imgur

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But that's not a 3rd eye

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Our cats left eyelid doesn't work so her third eyelid is the only thing that's stopping her needing drops!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Are you sure the cat isn't just woke af, and has tapped in to his true spiritual side?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I tried rubbing it for a few minutes and my eye got wet and had increased blood flow... So it's accurate

That actually made me lol! +1 you genius!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

any idea as to why we dont have/need it anymore?

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Short answer ? Evolution. Long answer ? I don't know. I stopped studying biology a long time ago. My guess ? We didn't need it anymore.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

But I feel like it would be extremely useful! Or at least the kind crocs have. A see through one. I don't know if cats are see through

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Iirc it was just a trait that wasn't beneficial so when a mutation proliferated for little to no third eye, it didn't get stopped.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In the "one week later" photo he is like:"Yeah yeah I'm fine and I'm still sick of your shit"

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

He was so happy to run free outside, I knew he was well when I awoke one to find him asleep on my chest.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Aww. Glad he is fine

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Awww.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yay! Glad your cat is better! Anyone here know anything about cat allergies? My cat has been battling a skin condition since January

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The internet can only offer opinions. It could be anything from hot spots to food allergies to fleas to ringworm. See a vet.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly without a vet to diagnose, it's hard to say what might help. Have you been to a vet? It could be anything from allergies to mange..

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We have been to the vet, roughly every 6 weeks for sterois/antibiotics. We have switched food she now eats better than anyone!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My vet did have a long name for it, the issue is that the usual treatment isn't working. I love my vet he's fantastic but my cat is trouble

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is the infection internal and just manifesting on the skin/coat, or is it purely skin focused? Cause if it's just on her skin, you could 1/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try mixing up a 50/50 solution of RAW apple cider vinegar (not that filtered junk, you want the mother still in it) and water, put it in 2/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A spray bottle, and spritz it on your cat's skin once or twice a day. It reeks to high heaven and kitty ABSOLUTELY will not enjoy it, 3/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or as simple as a flea allergy. Not overrun with 'em, either!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The vet couldn't find any fleas but anything is possible

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Prescription cat foods may help. Hills makes soft and dry food called z/d for skin and stomach allergies. Try Royal Canin too

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We switched to a food called Fussy Cat. Her face got so much better but it moved to her back. We see a dermatologist Wednesday

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would like to add to this that you need a VET TO WRITE A PRESCRIPTION TO BUY THESE FOODS. I know it sounds obvious but you would not 1/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fucking believe how many dumb customers at my job I had to explain this to when they tried to just walk in and buy it, and how many threw 2/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A shit fit about it despite it BEING RIGHT THERE IN THE NAME OF THE FOOD: "PRESCRIPTION diet." 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know what scares me more, that those people have pets or that they drive around and can vote

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I learned of not feed my cats any grains and give them raw chicken every couple of days.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

We have her on grain/gluten/potato free kibble and canned food. Her face is better but she's still an itchy bloody mess on her back

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could it be fleas

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've combed her and the vet has combed her and we didn't find fleas or flea dirt. It started as a rash on her face and has moved to her back

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am so sorry

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

is there another minimal ingredient diet you could switch her to? there are prescription ones , or mites?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel better now, as my cat is trying to get used to wearing a cone of shame for her eye, bumping into things & growling like Sideshow Bob.

8 years ago | Likes 367 Dislikes 3

try giving him a babyshirt if possible

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No..no no. Cone of shame will stop eye scratching, a shirt does jack.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To stop kitty from itching their eye? Don't see how that will help...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hey - I have a cat named Sideshow Bob!

8 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

I have a cat named bob too. Ur name is amazing

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Mine was found outside a local tavern. Name fits perfectly!

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Mine was found as a kitten in the middle of the road next to his dead sister mewling away. A friend of my sister found him and we took him

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I named him bob but the rest of my family calls him Oliver. Stupid name for an awesome cat

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fuck that first vet for being incompetent

8 years ago | Likes 1290 Dislikes 27

not just incompetent. seemed like they just didn't care.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like you've never been incompetent when it mattered

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I was like, what expensive vet ! Those should be blacklisted ! Look at that sleepy face now, so happy ...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

One told me my cat just had a cold after I explicitly stated concern of bobcat fever. The next day it was too late. RIP my baby.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Go on social media and make sure you give a detailed bad review. Ask friends and famaliy for refurals.

8 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 19

File a complaint with the AG and your state's department for licensing. You could be that one compliant away from having their license pull

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 11

Thats pretty excessive and we also dont know the full story id like to hear more before starting a witch hunt

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's literally their job to investigate claims of fraudulent practices......

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We definitely did not get the entire story there, at all.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

As a vet, it's an unwritten code to not judge other vets for what they chose to do or advise the client of. You don't know what the patient

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Word. More often than not with 2nd opinions, it's 1) Pet's condition has changed 2) Budget difficulties or 3) Client compliance problem.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

presented with at the time nor do you know the owner's compliance at the time. Def not the whole story

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Same vet from Megan Leavey?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don't know the whole story, and OP doesn't seem medically inclined so don't judge before you know facts. Vets do their best.

8 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 12

if your best sucks ass, it doesn't really matter. "Woops he died, I did my best" That's not really an excuse, in any field.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 7

Often in demanding surgery everyone does their best and patients still die. We don't know what this perceived "incompetence" of the vet was.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Just got home from a straight straight day-night-day shift as a vet. I appreciate this. On call so better go to bed now.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thank you for your hard work.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You rule.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not all of them do. In one of the main practices in my town, the head vet has had his license revoked multiple times. Keeps coming back.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

I can't comment on that without all the facts, but I bet he's doing his best too.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

I guess technically no one can ever really *know*. But considering all the stories I've heard from like, 20 different people, he doesn't

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah I mean not ALL doctors are good people. Maybe he used to be a better doctor/person.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

seem like a good guy. I'm not saying the expensive vet in this story is a bad guy. Just that you can't really know the likelihood even of

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Thank you, finally the comment I've been looking for.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

The average pet owner has no idea of good versus bad veterinary medicine. Outcome and $$$ is all they understand.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm halfway through vet school and it's really disheartening when medically ignorant people make accusations like this.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Vet tech for ten years & it still amazes me how many people will disregard their pets care due to missinformed opinions of others.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

People assume vet care should be cheap and 100% successful all the time for some reason. No concept for the costs for running a clinic

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yeah charged me 150 bucks for his incompetence

8 years ago | Likes 531 Dislikes 7

Give him a yelp disaster

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Hey really? 150 bucks is national average for an er exam (which covers the cost of never closing, ever). And I'm sure there are 2 sides to

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Every story. And as a vet this is the first time I've ever felt like I had to defend our profession on Imgur. End soapbox

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I wonder how long the eye looked really bad before he took it to the vet...

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I sure as shit hope you didn't pay it.

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 6

Had to pay before I Left

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you leave a poor review for the first vet, like so many suggested, please leave a good review for the second vet!

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Absolutely! That is really what we should focus on when we leave reviews - telling people who you go to is most important.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Post a bad review of them on Google Maps, if they're added there.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Follow everyones advice. Complain and make a stink. Your cat shouldn't have suffered that long. Im glad hes better.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

Why was this downvoted?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do a charge back against him. Get your money back.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

There's no guarantees in medicine.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From the first picture I understand they you took him to the vet like that? Or was that already in a more eurly stage?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The first pic was after I took him to the first vet two days later, I thought to myself isn't he supposed to get better.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yay a relevant question! (Hi fellow RVT) How long before this was addressed? Details are important in these situations. Not just the outcome

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What did the sec. vet say about your first vet? Would be nice to hear his thought. Also, any more info about the condition?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Give him a third eye

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

Sorry you had to go through all that @OP

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Social profiles for his veterinary practice are your friend in this case. A review is worth it's weight in gold for other people to know.

8 years ago | Likes 301 Dislikes 3

third, please review and tell everyone how much he sucks. in fact post it here. we got lots of views already might as well.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Vet practices live and die by referrals and word of mouth. This is the correct course.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Post who it was so we can avoid him.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Agreed, however as we all know "customers" can be real dicks as well, so one bad review does not always mean one bad doctor

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Who is this fancy girl?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think reviews weigh very much

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Reviews for healthcare professionals don't correlate with technical skill and should only be used to judge how nice, etc. they are.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

This is true. Doctors with great reviews can either be competent or patient-shopping for good results & not treating difficult conditions.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guess you're getting downvoted because people don't know how to logic. That sucks, because it means worse outcomes for patients. :(

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I agree with you mate. Somehow imgur agrees on how toxic retail can be but when it comes to doctors all of th sudden it's all the dr's fault

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So we're all too stupid to judge when this vet used his technical skills to NOT help the cat? We can only say he wasn't nice? WTH?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Could be that 2nd vet would have been wrong too if OP had shown cat to him two days earlier (when he showed it to first vet).

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Seconded! Reviews are super important! Also depending on where you live you can file complaints with vet certification boards.

8 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 2
