Can't wait for the Apple fans to say that Apple invented the idea of a glasses/headset device and wow they are so innovative, as if this technology hasn't existed for 10+ years.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Apple: heres a brick that can browse the internet, now do everything else for me and I’ll take 30% thank you. Also let me just take these open source codes and write one line of code and take 100% credit. I’m so good.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wonder how much battery life and weight they would save by removing this 100% gimmick screen and heavy glass.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ha it won't take that long with how this timeline they will be shipped broken and Cr@pple will not Honor a warranty .

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is such a dumb hate on new devices. If you don't care about your shit, that's a you problem, not a product problem. I've never lost a wireless earbud, and never broken a phone screen in 40 years.

Just get the $1000 Apple Care. The replacement cost is then only $2500.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Watch be made out of so many proprietary parts that you can't possibly repair it with the Third party.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

More than likely it'll be a stripped down Gen1 Oculus Quest they claim is new and improved because they soldered the lenses to the main board instead of attaching it by a ribbon cable.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Anyone who buys apple products doesn't know much about electronics or quality, they pay 10x mark up for a shitty name brand and feel good doing it. You just can't help some people.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 30

You sound like an anti apple fanboy on the exact same level as how much you get mad about apple fanboys. See the irony in your stupidity?

Also “My personal product preference is correct and anyone who has a different opinion is dumb” -Apple Fans

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Working with phones and tablets, yeah, no. There are various good reasons to get a number of apple products, but the weird cult-like behavior to get the latest, biggest, newest IS quite dumb. However, the UI is solid for the regular consumer, security updates are no joke, and at the very least they handle that pretty decently compared to most other manufacturers. Apple's accessories, though... eugh.. yeah *those* are overpriced.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

Yeah, as someone who only owns non-Apple, but tears down a lot of Apple (and other) products as part of my job, the hardware and build is quite impressive.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Honestly who is this even for? Even if they had all the vr games from the virtual boy to now and guaranteed them on it till the end of time it would be worth that price tag.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

did you mean to say "wouldn't"?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder how these will handle the need for glasses, with the quest I had to get third party lenses made that stay on with magnets, they have a baseline way that you can like wear glasses while wearing the quest but it does not work well

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same way, magnetic prescription lenses as part of the purchase process.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some headsets have room for a pair of glasses underneath. I can wear my glasses under my PS VR2. The Vision Pro of course requires an additional purchase to by custom inserts.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never used a headset that allowed glasses under that didn't feel terrible while doing that

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Apple didnt even make the primary function for gaming. So. Its only gonna be a rich persons toy that gets underdeveloped.

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 3

Not as long as it gets porn on it

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

No, but the sensors required for gaming are there. There will be shitloads of games for this within a few generations, I'm sure.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

You know, I don’t u sweat and how people keep breaking their phones so often. I’ve had an iPhone since the first one came out. The iPhone 1 survived two motorcycle crashes in my pocket without a cracked screen. Never have I even damaged one. Wtf are you people doing to your fucking phones?????

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

You obviously don't have the Hammer app.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dropped mine on the kitchen flow once and it shattered the screen. I’ve used a case and screen protector ever since

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You're obviously not a teenage girl. They go through screens like underwear. Just bashing it off every surface available.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would like to be able to afford one.. I wouldn't but the money would be nice.

2 years ago | Likes 115 Dislikes 2

Not me. XR is absolutely the future, but fuck Apple. Can't stand any of their design decisions on anything ever, so I'm not touching that even if I could afford it.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

They'll do a non-pro version for us plebs, as far as I know.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

For 3299?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I feel like the Valve Index has better value. It's about $1k but has the best game selection and performance. Oculus is like a 3rd of that but the games are lame. Not expecting much from Apple games.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Remember the price of the first generation of plasma flatscreen TVs? Just wait. It's fine. Let the spoiled rich kids have the first generation. Let them call customer support.

I am waiting for the Android based alternative that will do more for less money.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Only Microsoft and Apple at the moment with this level of AR. I am sure others will be getting into this soon.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Um...a quest? (similarly, vive xr elite/focus 3, pimax crystal/portal)? Srsly though, can't wait to retire my vive pro eye for something new (pimax 12k looking nice...)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not immersive VR it's just an AR overlay

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'm honestly excited for Augmented Reality to get off the ground and become cheaper. There is so much potential there.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

There is, but also so much potential fuckery. Advertisers are just drooling in the corner, waiting to put their shit in your way

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Considering what this headset can do for the same price of a HoloLens, the tech is getting a lot cheaper and a lot better after 8 years of development. The software is getting better too. I expect a lot more AR in the next 5 years.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm just looking forward to more VR games other than horror or "goofily overcomplicated"

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

VR is so good for horror though, I’m looking forward to more VR horror games and more. No man’s sky is meant to be a good vr title now

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah Ive got an Oculus Rift and its just sooo lacking in basic functionality and apps. Every time I take it out there is a mandatory 45 minutes of fucking with random shit to get it to finally work. And it fucking hurts your nose, I cant wear it for more than 30 minutes. It was cool AF fuck, but in reality its just an expensive POS that takes up space in my closet, I havent come to terms enough to sell it yet. Ebay is such a bitch... but thats a whole other rant.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Their repair policy is essentially send it back to us so we can send you a new one because even Meta won't attempt to fix them

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m got the psvr2 recently. It’s an expensive toy but really easy to set up, I literally just plug one wire into my ps5 and it works. I’m excited for more games and apps on it, it’s got me excited for VR and AR tech in general

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How do you guys break your phones?

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

The only phone screen I've ever broken was because I set it on something that someone else tipped over. It had a case and screen protector. I stopped using cases since then.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lots of people are just too careless.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

My partner will literally just stand there and their phone will end up across the room, it's impressive honestly.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I always laughed when the people who insisted on being the first to own a new toy would cry after the new toy immediately broke.

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

Their investment into new technology is what allows us to have the cheaper technology later on as it shows there’s a market for it, if they’re not hurting anyone then who are we to judge?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Actually that’s a fair point. Touché.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kol its apple, you think it will get cheaper?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I meant in general with technology. Although the tech news sites that I follow have claimed that Apple has a cheaper one in development

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I prefer the original.

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

My friend you are mistaken, Avatar the last Airbender has that title

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Thought about buying one, but the way VR is I'm just worried it will be a waste of money. I need apps, content, not weird creepy cartoons.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I've had VR (Vive) for about 8 years, you can count the number of great games on one hand; beat sabre, superhot, HL Alyx, Star wars squadrons; then you're into niche sims (DCS, Elite etc). Ultimately depends on your budget and games you'll play

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This would be great in a remote team, if everyone in the team has one!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’d recommend one of the cheaper VRs. I have the psvr2 but if your PC can handle it then it might be worth getting one of the meta quest ones.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depending on what you do, AR headsets could be great for collaborative work.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They’ll probably sell you a screen cover for $500

2 years ago | Likes 503 Dislikes 8

You can just get one on Amazon from highly reputable brands such as MeVue, TufWear, or IOMOV.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They sold a less useful piece of plastics for double that price.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I bought my first flagship phone, I spent so much money on screen protectors. They just kept breaking and I kept thinking "man it's a good thing I got the protector." After like $500 I finally realized they were designed to break easily, stopped replacing them, and 4 years later there's not a single scratch on my phone screen.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Exact same thing happened to me. Screen protector on my iPhone would easily break. Stopped buying them. No issues

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Apple has a firm stance that their devices don't require extra protection. Remember, this is the same company that told people to drop their computers on a table to fix them

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

*Cough*If you drop iPhone 11…it may never come back on…I know cause I’m holding one, and lost 3

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do they even use gorilla glass or do they just expect you to wait until next year's model if something breaks? I've never had an apple anything.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

everytime there is an advancement in gorilla glass, they make the screen thinner to make the device; cheaper, thinner, lighter, and easier to break. they could double the thickness of the glass, it would basically never break, but would add about 1.5mm to the product thickness, so they will NEVER do it, bragging rights on how thin it is.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In their defense, it did fix the memory issue

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

No this was the computer they built without any fans and would get so hot the parts would start to come loose so the procedure was to pick it up and drop it 2-6 inches on to a hard surface so the parts would reconnect

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

The memory being one of those parts.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Ah ok

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This feels like a $3500 solution-in-search-of-a-problem

2 years ago | Likes 261 Dislikes 12

It's a $3500 solution to a $399 problem, and that problem was already solved at $399.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Most people look at it and think it's a oculus competitor with crazy high price, while it's actually a varjo competitor with crazy low price

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It has AR capabilities, which makes it a competitor for the HoloLens at the same time. So for the price it sounds very good. I don't like Apple, but they should be criticised honestly.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

it's like a laptop for your eyes, man

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

People already spend $3k-10k on TVs. This is a private TV/computer that you can watch on your own. I see it being huge with people who travel and rich couples who want to watch movies without bothering their partner. I’m not saying the price isn’t grotesque, but there are opportunities in the market.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

A 75 inch Sony 4K television is $1700 new. And you can use it with friends. All at the same time.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the Bravia XR is $5300. And it doesn’t provide a private, isolated viewing experience. My point is that the privacy and solo experience is conceivably part of the appeal. Apple’s headset isn’t a replacement for the family TV.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I used to fly and stay in hotels every week for work. If I were still in that lifestyle, a $3500 portable entertainment system like that would not be a crazy thing for me to buy.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It'll take off once the porn companies figure it out

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

The current VR porn is sorta scary. There's some inherent issues of being put inside someone else like that. No that's not what I meant. Wait.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AR porn, now that would be an interesting application of this tech.

That's what they said about the iPad

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

I still don't know really what they're for. Apart from my Dad to take pictures in public in the most inconvenient way possible

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You might want to do like a cursory Google search or something

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yeah but the iPad was 1/3rd the cost. This one is prohibitively expensive.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If it's one thing Apple knows it's that people will pay super-inflated prices for things with an Apple logo on them.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It is, once there are some killer apps the mass market version of the hardware will be ready, cheaper and better. Same way the Watch went.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Yeah, and we all know how terrible the Apple Watch is doing at over 40% market share...

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This will only ever be marketed towards the hardcore "I hate money" Apple people. The cost will never come down enough for us poors to be able to afford it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's funny how that first sentence is exactly what every other VR system in the past 30 years has said. Usually capping it with 'in just a few/5 years'

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Like the car that was never going to catch on. Or the computer was never going to catch on. Technology needs some time to take off. I wouldn't take the people saying "oh it's just 5/10/15 years away" too seriously, but I believe this tech does have a lot of potential and it most needs some time to be explored more in depth. What Apple is doing will be glitchy and expensive but with time, enough companies will have had a good at it to really give us an amazing product (that's hopefully not Apple)

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Certainly. I guess "It's funny how" is often used for sarcastic/dismissive reasons, but I find it legitimately amusing. These kinds of things already have plenty of applications and are in use, but most such technologies don't gain mass usage. AR *did* have a killer app, Pokemon GO. It has been another tool in the toolbox for some time now. I *would* be dismissive of the broader notion that it'll be transformative.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

At a time lighter-than-air (or faster than sound) travel was to be the future of flight, pneumatic tubes would revolutionize mail/package delivery, 3D TVs were going to bring video off the screen, everyone was going to be playing with drones (`actual` drones, which can fly on their own, not just RC quadcopters), etc. There's plenty of stuff that could (or even should) be commonplace that just never take off or settle into niches.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It is. So was the Apple Watch and the iPad. So are most new consumer electronic gadgets. And the $3500 price is the early adopter fee. In a few years we'll have a slimmer, faster, mass market version with a ton of apps for half the price. Is this your first new tech rodeo?

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Apple watch launched with an intro lvl model at $350. Literally a tenth of the price. The iPad launched at $500. You could buy 7 of those for the cost of this one thing. This price point is pretty unprecedented for something that is meant to have made market appeal.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

That's just it. This is not meant to have a wide market appeal. It's a "pro" device with a pretty niche market. The mass-market version will come later after the technology has matured a bit.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Then why would you compare it to the iPad or apple watch which were mass market devices?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

It might be the dumbest piece of technology I've ever seen released to the mass market, though Meta is doing their best to win that challenge.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

The meta one is $3-400... not really in the same stratosphere.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Don't remember the Segue?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not even a little comparable, they were somewhat fun to rent on vacations & such and the stabilization technology ended up in tons of later products.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

It’s crazy expensive. But this is the start of something new I think. I think, in time, this could in the make the tv obsolete

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The TV thing is a dumb application really. There is a lot of awesome things you can do with a 4K AR headset though.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hm, I don’t agree. Adjusting the Tv size, surrounding environment and additional information without interrupting the visuals seems like a good next step for me. Imaging popups and vid controllers not blocking the screens. Picture in Picture would not need to exist. And video games?! Endless possibilities 😄

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nobody's wearing a giant fucking headset to experience the joys of motion sickness. Either the technology gets to the point that it works on a fairly normal pair of glasses without making 50%+ of its users puke, or it never gets adopted.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

That’s one way to look at it. I don’t agree with you though. I don’t see why the size makes a difference. It will come down to the difference in experience I think. And the tv has done all it can. While this headset hasn’t even started showing us what it can do! Only one will tell I guess

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You don't think people care about wearing ridiculous uncomfortable gear on their faces that gives them motion sickness?
