Shun anyone who wears these

Not anyone, that would be like shunning all people using their cell phone camera since there are perverts out there.

Did we just forget that Google Glass was banned everywhere *before* it was released?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There was a porn site called Street Blowjobs where a guy would "convince" "strangers" to blow him in public while wearing glasses with a camera in it some 20 years ago.

I mean a better way to discourage people would be to call them Rape Bands

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

well we already had google glassholes, so maybe we can come up with something catchier than pervert glasses for these? hmmm...

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

creeper peepers

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The metaholes will be everywhere soon.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dread the depressingly close day when the cams will be entirely invisible.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Didn't we used to call people with smartglasses "Glassholes"?

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Because the first run of this was Google's "Google Glass" product. So glassholes was perfect, but not particularly brand-agnostic.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We still do.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I own these glasses and have been enjoying them. I don't have tape or anything on them. Laughably, I have mostly been taking pictures of beetlebugs and beetlebuses to send to my mom via text in our ongoing beetlebug contest. My children are also constantly saying, "Daddy, record me, I want to do a video" which is why I got them in the first place. Not everyone wearing them is a creep.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 15

I'm too lazy to search. Do they have any way to let others know they are recording?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It's literally a flashing white light, everyone would know.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Let me guess, you're also an anti-regulation libertarian, aren't you?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're aware all (or some ? don't know) videos taken with these glasses are watched and analyzed by third parties ?

Your kids are wank-fodder for some third-world pedo in a data labeling center.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Odd you would think of wanking and kids as your first reaction, see someone!

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I work with people who are blind and visually impaired so my only experience with these have been on blind people using them to help navigate their world. It’s a shame how other people misuse them :/

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Having had worked in A.R. for a few years, I am deeply disappointed in pretty much *everyone*

2 weeks ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

It’s totally different if you’re wearing them at home.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

AR?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Augmented Reality, probably.

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Ah, yeah, that tracks. TY +1

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don’t even like wearing my prescription Ray Bans now because they’re tortoise shell Wayfarers.

Ray-Ban, you’ve lost a decades-long customer for your part in this egregious breach of privacy.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's upsetting, because it was such a classic design that looked good on so many people of every age, gender presentation, and face shape. Wayfarers really never went out of style except in the late 1970s and early 1980s, but society was going thru some stuff (stylewise) then.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep. Early 80s is when I started wearing them.

It’s MY sunglasses design and now they pissed all over it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a single dad with two kiddos, I got these because to best at on the moment and record or take pictures and they’re awesome for that. Before I needed to stop, pull out my phone, etc. but helping a child in their first monkey bars or having a dance party or whatever, just not optimal using a phone.

That being said, even though there’s a light so people can see when you’re recording or taking a picture, these could totally be used to discreetly be a perv or weirdo.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Explain. I have never even heard of these glasses before just now.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

The explaination is that you don't spend enough time on the internet.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So the employees of Meta are
watching the video feeds? It’s not simply video viewable by the owner of the glasses?!!??

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

So basically, Facebook's version of the Google Glasses?

Old Post; Meta Glasses Guy Mad at Woman he was Recording Who Snapped His Glasses in Half ... /gallery/2GfjiCA

2 weeks ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I remember the news posts about that & so many peeps were upset she broke the glasses, in part because we are all being recorded all the time so what's the difference. All I wanted to scream from the damn rooftops was creeps can use this to record children & there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it. And yes speaking from experience there are peeps who would get the glasses to be creeps.

2 weeks ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Well, yeah. The guy in that report was one of them. She broke his glasses because he was recording her. Like a creep.

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I was 100% on her side for that. My point was just to say it was okay for him to sneakily (not really sneaking cause he was being obvious but still) record her , then peeps can & will do worse with them. We shouldn't just accept it because "were being recorded all the time anyway so what's the harm" , that's not a good mindset to have.

How do these glasses even work in 2 party consent states? 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘴 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘓𝘢𝘸𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳 272, 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 99, 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯-𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘥. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘢𝘸 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴.

As someone who live in Massachusetts, two party consent is moronic and helps people get away with crimes.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Turn off audio recording and often times in public declaring recording is ok bc of the lack of expected privacy. Whether or not you can use the recording is something else though. The police used to try to use this law in their favor in mass

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While I'm sure there are better examples than the one given (California 2 party consent for example). Massachusetts Chapter 272 §99 deals strictly with government surveillance, issuance of warrants, and permitted evidence. It's for violations of the Massachusetts Constitution by law enforcement. And the text, as quoted above does not appear either in the text or in the spirit of the law

Man I even put -ai at the end of every single google search and they still just be giving me bullshit answers.

It's illegal if you're caught

2 weeks ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

/ of you aren't a multi billion dollar corp

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's about expectation of privacy. In public spaces, you can record anyone at any time, regardless of consent. In a private location, such as a home or office at work, two-party consent states would require you to ask permission to record, or not record at all.

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

What if you're trying to catch evedence of domestic abuse?

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One of the reasons the law was made.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

How does it work with security cameras ? They're ok cuz they don't record sounds ? Nobody has ever argued in court that one could read lips ?

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

You ever seen the quality of those cameras?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair point, would be hard to read lips. But with the ever advancing technology, it won't be true for a lot longer and I'd wager a non insignificant part of those cameras are in fact of good quality already now.

And as a joke: Couldn't they just enhance the vidz just like they do in CSI Miami ? =D

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's about expectation of privacy. Even in a two- party consent state, you can record/be recorded on any public space, with or without consent. In a private space, such as your home, the person recording needs permission.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I can’t vouch for all states but even in these 2 party states the laws are typically aimed specifically at recording audio (thus the wording for “conversation” here). Many cameras get around this by simply not recording audio.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IANAL, but from what I know, security cameras are normally pointed at the property and cannot film, for example, the street or a neighbour's house. The presence of a visible sign indicating video surveillance counts as consent.
I also know there were exceptions carved for people in the background and not the subject of the video for news medias or Google Maps, for example.

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Counterpoint: doorbell cameras

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought about that. I dunno how they fit in those laws.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see. Clearly not an all encompassing rule then but it does give some protections, that's nice :)
In the UK they're everywhere and they don't even hide the fact that they're used to track people (they even use AI to do it now ...)

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Meh. It's not going to matter. I was in italy over the summer and they had fancier ones over there that you couldn't even see the camera on unless you were in the store. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there are contact lenses that achieve the same result in the next 5 years or so

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Where exactly do you put batteries in contact lenses?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gotta become some kind of cyborg.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless the technology for some kind of heat or motion electricity generator becomes small enough. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the tech in my lifetime.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not sure how this is the glasses "fault." It's just a fucking heads-up-display.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 13

You guys are right, people have never watched such things on anything else in public? That dude watching porn on his smartphone or tablet? That's fine. BUT ON A HEADS-UP-DISPLAY?! OMFG, the tech is at fault!!!111elevenity

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 13

"FUNKENSTEIN REMAIN LONELY!"

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

It's more about the camera that records you dumbass.

2 weeks ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Yeah, you're right! Smartphones and tablets don't have cameras! YOU NAILED IT, GENIUS!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

Well, someone filming you with a smartphone is pretty obvious. With glasses, you don't know who might even have the capability, yet they're recording you without your knowledge.

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

1) Nobody said watching porn in a public space was "fine". It's a perverted thing to do.
2) The problem is not even that, it's being able to record people without their knowledge. At least with phones it's obvious when you're doing it.

And as a bonus: Meta itself are watching the vidz you're taking, so your little sex tape you took ? Well I hope your partner is OK with being watched by strangers cuz they're now officially a porn star.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

And yet people record other people all the fucking time without them being aware of it, with all manner of devices.

You people just NEED something new to whine about every. fucking. day. It's gotten fucking OLD. "Whaa, this new technology is evil, we must destroy it! WHAA! I'M NOT A TECHNOPHOBE, U R!!! WHAAAAA!"

Just fucking piss off already. Jesus. fucking. Christ.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

"You people just NEED something new to whine about..."

I don't normally feed the trolls, but wow, that lack of self-awareness on your part...

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Sorry, go back to whining about everything and anything with no actual reasoning other than "omg, someone else is whining about it, so I MUST fit in with them! WHAAA! X Y and Z are evil and should be destroyed at all costs!!!111eleven"

Fuck off.
