My name is TheComputerScientist and I'm a chocoholic

So I really love chocolate

Like. I REAAAAALLLLYYYYY LOVE CHOCOLATE

But senior year with a bunch of end-tier programming classes means that I live a sedentary lifestyle in front of a computer.

I've gotten fatter these last couple of months. Don't get me wrong, I was fat before too, but I got down 20 pounds-ish by hitting the gym last year (20 ain't much, but it was replacing fat with muscle) but it's creeping back up again, replacing muscle with fat. I've gained 10 pounds and I don't wanna be wumbo no mo'... again... (or at least less wumbo than I am now). (I wumbo, you wumbo, he, she, we wumbo. Wumbology, the study of wumbo)

I've started hitting the gym again, doing cardio/running mostly, and I've altered my diet a bit, making healthier choices with what I eat. But the chocolate cravings don't stop. I've got several late nights ahead of me, and chocolate is the ideal snack since it's delicious and gives me a burst of sugar when I most need it. So the dilemma: HOW DO I STOP MUH SHUGAH CRAVINGS?

I wanna get fit-ish. Maybe not a buff as these two, but less fat than i am right now would be nice. What do you guys eat so that you don't crave sugar or, more importantly, chocolate? Any suggestions would be nice. Thank you. Some of you may ask, "Why don't you have some self control and just not buy chocolate you pinhead?!"

I'm a weak man, and there are some things that I find really hard to give up. There. *sob* I said it. You happy now? You've made a grown 21 year old child cry! Anyways, help with alternatives would be great. For those of you that provided some ideas (and fine, those that didn't as well)

TL;DR: I would like to live a healthier lifestyle. What do you eat to stop sugar/chocolate cravings?

FAQ:

Q: Why is this album full of Spongebob pictures?
A: Because (old) Spongebob is awesome! (I can't vouch for the newer ones, I haven't seen them and haven't heard great things)

Q: Do you really love me?
A: Yes. Well, probably. I dunno. I think this relationship is moving too fast. Maybe we should take a break.

Q: What were you doing with Chloe?
A: We were on a break!

Q: I hate you
A: I'm sorry baby, please come back to me. I love you. (Seriously though Ross, what the fuck man? You were both angry, it was just a fight. Why are you such a stupid person? You just had to escalate things didn't you?!)

What're they selling?!?!?!

Chocolate is good for you. Just switch to darker variants with less sugar and limit yourself to a relatively small amount.

I accept your apology on the behalf of the other Ross. (The Ross I refer to is from the tv show Friends)

Eat the chocolate. But try eating chocolate COVERED things, like fruit or even rice cakes or make some milk chocolate.

Chocolate covered chocolate? Yes! Choco-fruits will probably be a better alternative and the extra tastes will hopefully satisfy me. Thanks!

Go darker. Dont ever buy cheap chocolate. (Usually have the most sugar) Ones with nuts and berries are healthier. and try limiting

Mmm, gonna go buy me the most expensive M&M's in the world. But seriously, I do appreciate the tip. Thank you.

Oh god, play it cool. Um... Let's get married. (Shit! Coming on too hard) Heyyyy, How you doing? (smooooooth)

Uh..hiImgreatthanksforasking.... (:

Well, you don't want to stop the chocolate cold turkey. It will make you binge on it later. Try to ease out of it slowly.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oooh, I like this suggestion since it means I can still have some in the near future and you're probably right.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It makes it easier on you to ease out of it and eating better and working out. Eventually the cravings won't be so bad.

It's like im looking in the mirror. I plan my meals out ahead of time, and stick to it. I aim for 1200 to allow for the "unknown". But...

... remember it's not about losing weight. It's about creating a healthier, SUSTAINABLE lifestyle for yourself.

How do you count calories when you're making the food from scratch? Not every spinach leaf is the same calorie wise.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, you know how much you're using, you can estimate (easier) or buy a scale (more accurate), then use math to average cal/portion size.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just switch to white chocolate. It is healthier because it doesn't have all the color flavorings. Also easily digestible aromas.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

It's also not chocolate.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isn't white chocolate not really chocolate but just as bad calorically? (calorically is not a word but you know what I mean)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Only if the calories are free range.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For what it's worth, I agree with Ross. It was stupid, they were on a break, and Rachel turned into a raging bitch over it.

We have different opinions on this subject. And that's okay, because we can still coexist in this world.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I suppose. I mean, you *are* a Skub proponent, aren't you?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm actually anti-skub (unless you're anti-skub, in which case I'm a skub proponent)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

YOU FILTH! YOU SHALL DIE FOR SKUB!

Why don't you get chocolate milk/chocolate almond milk and dilute it with skim. Gradually alter the ratio where it becomes less chocolate

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oooh, I should try that, does it still taste chocolatey?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like muscle milk...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't protein shakes just make you fat if you don't actually lift weights? (Or so I've heard)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on the shake, but yes. You typically want to do some lifting.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hmm, maybe later in the quarter I find myself lifting in addition to cardio I'll try it. Thanks for the suggestion!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh yea, the almond milk is better. I'd say you could just start off at half' n half. Then decrease chocolate. Or you could do protein shakes

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cool, I'll try the almond milk thing. I don't think I'll be getting too much weight-lifting done, so would protein shakes be bad?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't be bad... Just not really necessary. Stick with the milk thing- tastes better

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Coolio, thanks for the suggestion
