For crissake this is my mom. She’s pissed because my wife, daughter and I are vaccinated. I’m disappointed and embarrassed when she sends me this stuff. Do I just keep ghosting her or tell her how stupid this is?

tell her you wont believe it util your preferred media states it as fact just like her. get it on the PBS news hour and I *might* listen

Bury your head in sand and just don’t worry! The government has your back 100 percent. You stay safe!

Nothing you say or do will change their mind. Arguing will just be you drinking poison waiting for her theories to die.

Send her some colouring books and crayons. Explain you’re starting her education from the beginning…again

She needs to hear this: Shut up you dumb fuck wit. I'm protecting my family, while you are spewing idiocy and delusions.

Millions dropping dead?

Keep ghosting

When I started reading I thought it was a person with an immune-compromised child responding to an anti-vaxxer but then it just got crazy

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imagine thinking millions of people are dying and no one knows any of them? No one in gen population notcied?

Tell her that you HAVE investigated and that she needs to stop pretending like she knows better than you just because she has big feelings.

If in the USA ask her if she had you vaccinated to go to public school. If she says yes or no scream at her for putting your life at risk.

I'm gonna go with "fuck off you dumb twat." Seriously, anyone still peddling this nonsense is just beyond hope.

You tell her that she has the choice to a) never bring up vaccines to you again or b) not have you in her life. Be firm. Mean it.

This seems to be the only response that's actually good and reasonable advice. focus on those who make your life better not harder

And live with it - its not easy at the start when you cut out a person who should be an important part of your life.. but it does get easier

The correct way to respond is to block them and not speak to them again.

With all those people, first question before continuing: what would you accept as a fact or a proof ?

Good job surviving her to adulthood.

are you Canadian? maybe you can get her signed up for MAID

Tell her to investigate Long Covid and it's vagal impairment. Vax blaming is the cover up pharma needs to maintain the medical status quo.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I read this as 'vaginal impairment ' every time.

Tell her to actually read her own sources. Because the article she linked is using a false title which it's own content doesn't support.

You're assuming people like this are swayed by evidence. They are not.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Maybe I worded it wrong, but I was trying to say that if someone won't read more than a headline, they should drop the topic when asked.

It is true the FDA person is calling for a decline in vaccinations for healthy/not-at-risk, but only because of decreased effectiveness. /2

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Not because of any side effects that may or may not have been caused by the vaccines. Tell her to drop the topic if she can't understand /3

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

that from actually reading the article and it's sources.

You might want to send this to your mom https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NewsPunch

It won't help. This person is too far gone to be reasoned with.

Like the onion for conservatives. I had 2 elderly aunts who believed every story in Weekly World News. Even batboy

Idk who or what batboy is but I want to believe! ?

@OP Science usually points that you should respond with kindness, avoid conflict and be (very) patient. Conflict isolates the victim further

In Dutch newspaper articles communication scientists wrote advice pieces about the subject. If you can read Dutch I could try to find them

Thank you and yes this worked.

It’s gutting when someone close to you gets sucked in (my mum is like this too). But it comes from a place of love even though she’s wrong.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’d acknowledge that you know she cares & is worried but that you don’t agree and you will have to agree to disagree. Then ignore this topic

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you I took this advice exactly. She’s moved on to telling me about digging up worms for her chickens. Lol

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m glad she’s moved on to more agreeable topics ?
