It's my Cake Day! Let's hit nerds with sticks!

Apr 24, 2015 1:37 AM

Hi Imgur!

So today is apparently my cake day. I've mostly been a lurker and have very little OC for you, but I did make something cool. I made all of my garb and some of the weapons I fight with in a full contact foam fighting game called Dagorhir. This is my favorite action shot.

Winter barbarian garb.

Fun fact: I had this in my car when I had a flat tire in subzero weather. Might very well have saved me from frostbite.

The "halloween costume" I wore when I accidentally walked into a Whole Foods. Didn't think that one through.

So yeah, occasionally I go outside and hit nerds with sticks and you should too! :D It's the best thing ever!

Edit: For the folks asking on how to get involved http://www.dagorhir.com/ is the official site and https://www.facebook.com/groups/197526817022129/ is FB group. Find a local practice near you today! /EndRecruitmentSpeech

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I used to be a larper like you, but I took a foam arrow to the knee.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I do Belegarth in the mid-west!!! It's the same thing. So much fun!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Where in the mid west? I used to do it in the mid west too

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have to say, Saffra is one of the most badass women in all the game.

This is the first time I've ever seen a Dagorhir post on this site. Our sport needs more publicity. The more the merrier.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I wanted to make a post, but I never felt people would care. Looks like I was wrong

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just doin' my part. *superhero poses* That and sitting in garb at Denny's!

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well, I thank you. Been away from Dag for a while and this made me miss it. Time to buy all new gear and dive back in.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nice to see another Dag fighter. What's your realm and unit?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Aratari. No unit.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cool. I'm with the Blackguard of Tir-Asleen.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was Fury of the Called in Michigan, but now i'm just general Eryndor when I get the chance to go to an event.

*waves excitedly*

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

What was the reaction at whole foods?

11 years ago | Likes 753 Dislikes 1

I'm happy you asked. OP buried the headline a bit there.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, you're wearing the most organic kind of clothing in the most organic of supermarkets. What's the problem?

11 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 2

Well, actually fur industry causes more pollution than oil-based polyester. (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

(2/2) That's why it's illegal in Finland to market fur as enviromental friendly. *the more you know*

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I used to work at a whole foods, anyone who works there probably wouldn't care. We're an accepting bunch.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The employees were giddy and wanted to know if I killed them all myself. Shoppers with "I want to speak to the manager" haircuts deathglared

11 years ago | Likes 1008 Dislikes 5

I hope you told them, "Why of course i killed them all myself" Then Smiled, and walked away.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like to imagine it went something like "My son Jace at home has an allergy to animal fur, I demand that a manager make this woman leave!"

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

"come on Kaeytelynne, BrÃ…den, we're leaving"

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I can't stand names that aren't quite names.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought you were going to say that you slaughtered all the unarmed customers and plundered the store

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wanna say...bad

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You should have talked back to them in Dothraki. Missed opportunity.

11 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 0

That's the kind of reactions I get from my kilt and leather armor.1/2 excited, 1/2 concerned

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's the greatest thing I've read on the internet in months. I fucking love you & also feel less weird for going into QT in RenFaire garb.

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Have a field day with it! I had fun before running around the haunted house in full dragula garb. Told people I hated the sun and sparkles.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's acutally not as uncommon as you think. i've seen quite a few viking fighters in chainmail and weapons go to the local store for food XD

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, no, I have gone into QT a bunch of times in full garb. The employees don't care enough to judge.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Have you done it in the ghetto?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, I have not. Mostly suburbia, and near rural, near Ren Faires and SCA events.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've gone into QT barefoot, in cosplay, I saw a guy go in decked out as Ezio. QT employees don't give a shit.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have done this as well however all the looks stop when i lift my kilt up to get to my big ass coin pouch and pay in silver.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You should try SCA combat next. You get to take the pool noodle off of your weapon :)

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 5

all those beautiful bruises.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dagorhir: We pad the weapons, not the people. SCA: We're all insane.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I will always consider myself a heavy fighter. Broke 3 swords on helmets within the first month of learning to be more graceful lol.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd really like to one day when I can afford armor.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The helm is the only part that has to cost a bit. You can make do with plastic for the rest until you save up for the rest.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good lord, I am too old and too poor to do that SCA shit... Have fun guys, but I gotta get into work in the morning.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Poppycock. The average age of Scadians is way higher than foam fighters. They get knighted later and are more likely to pool resources.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The SCA is larpier than most larps. There is no social pressure to bow to a king.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Yes and no. The king isn't some shmuck who gave himself a title. He earned the position and deserves respect. Bow recommended, not required.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Don't hate man, Bel and Dag weapons are well-made and not as squishy as they look. I love the SCA, though.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh no hate. I'm a bit small and honestly prefer the mobility available in boffer weapon combat, but rattan thunks are addictive :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The mental game I've found to be a lot higher in Dag/Bel/Amt and the contact a lot higher in dag/bel than SCA. It's just different though.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I dunno about that Tisco. Just like Amt it depends on where you play and how serious the mid level fighters are.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's true, there's shield bashing, kicking, tackling, and grappling in Dag and Bel. Headshots aren't legal, though.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I can see what you mean as far as average fighting goes, but SCA gets a bit more complicated with melees and wars.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About 2/3 of the SCA people I meet make me somewhat interested, they are low key. 1/3 are loud mouth jack offs that make me disinterested.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Find the ones you like. Whatever the game, the people are what make it worth going out.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

An issue that drove me away more than once. Best advice is stick with the people you like and not let the loudmouths take your fun.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh gosh, I played with SCA training for about a year in college, then I had no free time. It is awesome. I could hit as hard as I want ...

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

except great swords. Those were definitely metal crushing.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Real-life two-handed swords were not for crushing armor. They were actually lightweight stabbing weapons with extra cutting utility.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They were also not widely used in organized warfare until well into the Renaissance, the heaviest would have only been about six pounds.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can hit as hard as you want in Dagorhir and Belegarth as well. That foam is actually quite firm, for safety purposes.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Soft, squishy foam isn't actually what you want when contact is really hard. If it's too soft, it will compress down to the core, and hurt.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lay on! Sword and Board is the only acceptable style anyways :D

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

That sounds like sca talk! Source: I'm in the sca...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought about it, but I just don't have the money for all that

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love sword and board.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah. Gotta say I really wanna learn red sword fighting and spear work though. Need more reach for my little T-Rex arms.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Folding people in half with a good red sword gut shot is ALWAYS fun! Sword and board or arching was my favorite though.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Min-red is a LOT of fun. Especially since you're likely used to punch-blocking already. I main that and glaive, which is also great.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is even more fun to min-red and board. All of the defense of sword and board, all of the offense of red.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Punch & pie is terrifying when used correctly. "Break my shield? Fine, see if I give a shit."

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I switched to min red from sword and board. I'm okay with everything, but reds are fun

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Psshh, Spears are for chumps. I like when new players pick up just a spear and no back up weapon. I'm not a big fan of reds though :/

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Haters gonna hate. I fight spear only, short sword as backup.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Upvote for nostalgia. Spear/blue is awesome, used to love it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Depends on the spear fighter.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Granted my main larp is amtgard. I have done dag and bel fighting. While s&b is the main choices. I still prefer polearms.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Polearms and archers aren't real people! I'm Gurney from Eryndor if those names mean anything to you.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

you wouldnt be saying that with an arrow through the neck, yeah?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The comment was mostly satirical. I just hate getting shot in the face and a few months ago sustained a bad injure from a spear

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have no idea where Eryndor is, but I play with the State College chapter. Maybe I'll see you at Rag!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I disagree with the pole aren't people comments. If you seen a known great fighter with their style of choice. You name drop real quick.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats my dag name and location, trying to see if anyone on here was from the same area

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also I'm not saying pole users can't be good fighters, I know several that are excellent. I just prefer to fight closer up

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kill a Roman for me, eh?

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I take every opportunity to kill Romans. Rhino-hiding barrel-shielded lazy fighter!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We have a smattering of chapters outside the US. One starting as far afield as Taiwan. Where are you located?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Australia is where I'm at

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ireland

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Might also try the SCA. Different game, but we have groups in Canada, Europe and Australia.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah check out sca. Where the children use the foam wrapped swords.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well that is good because I'm in australia

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Glad to see some foam swinging on imgur! I play Amtgard. Dag is in my area but the group is smalI. I love hitting people with sticks!

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

... I have to ask... are some of the Amtgard folk in your area tools? Every time I've run into one here their attitudes piss me off.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh no! I'm sorry you had a bad experience with some. Generally, I think people around here are pretty friendly and just want to play.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like everything some people are jerk faces. Where have you visited?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The people I've met were from the Berkeley area. Since I'm from a LARP, some of them have been kind of elitist because they (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

do "real fighting". Nevermind that most of us are martial artists and their fighting methods are cheesy and unsafe at best... (2/2)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Evil Randy and Taly were saying that there is an old culture against foam players there. Are you on the Cross Gamers Facebook group?'

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm in the kingdom of crystal groves. My park is Ruby Hills in WV.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I haven't been yet. I started a couple of years ago as a student; didn't have much of a chance to travel. Now I'm just starting to be able.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Best of luck as a student & good luck traveling! There are lots of fun foam events besides amtgard ones, like bellum aeturnus & ragnarok.

I think it's great fun! There's been a lot of growth. Tons of new players. My park tends to lean a little towards the stick jock side (1)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But we also like to have the silly fun battle game side too (2)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My secret nerd side would absolutely love to do this someday. Sigh.. I guess until then I'll have to pretend I'm laid back and smooth.

11 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 1

You don't have a hair on your pocket peaches if you don't do the thing.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It really does sound fun as fuck. And we all know how fun fuck is

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

DO IT! ITS THE BEST EVER!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

i'm part of a group that does something similar, full face steel helmets and more gear is required, but super fun! Maybe you'll see me there

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Me too @HighOnDanceCandy, me too... We could just get... High... On... Dance... Candy and try it out together, whilst hugging profusely?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dystopia Rising

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats more LARP and not really about foamfighting.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I disagree. All I do all weekend is kill zombies and other players with foam weapons.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do it anyway! *Be A Man song from Mulan plays*

11 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

You play Dagohir and reference Disney songs. Dammit OP I only have so many up votes to give.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I wish I could, I hate living in Sweden even more now...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sweden has larps. Awesome larps.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't even know what that is. I just want to play swords with adults!

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

it really is

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best hobby ever. *brofist*

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Do you all get together and practice too? Dam, I'm going to have to use the Internet and find some new friends.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep! Lots of weekly practices. You'll usually find one on large college campuses.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Agreed

1) Doesn't seem to be. :( But you could always make one or travel to these guys. https://www.facebook.com/groups/nydagorhir/

"full contact foam fighting game" <-- Is the name LARP no longer used? Serious question, I don't keep up to date with that world.

11 years ago | Likes 312 Dislikes 4

Differences: Dagorhir has no required role playing, just fighting, Dag has no magic, Larping is touch contact, Dag is fullcontact

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What OP means is that LARP is light contact in general, and does things like track HP. This hits hard enough to hurt through armor.

11 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

That is different from LARP, if it's just fighting without the role-playing. In Finland we call it boffer-fighting (or bofferointi).

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

We call it that here too. We probably got it from you.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dag': "I hit you, you die"; LARP: "I throw my lightning-bolt tennis ball, you receive lightning damage, uhhh... *does math* ... you die?"

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Totally a LARP, just gotta be specific. And to be honest, when Dag started LARP was not a term in use.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

LARP has more of a connotation with touch based games. Dag is more like paintball. Less focus on the rp and more on the hitting.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A serious answer for a serious question. They're different; I've seen people get broken bones and noses in the OP's world.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

dagohir is full force, hitting as hared as you can. i end the days with bruises lasting 2 weeks.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are many forms of LARPing as well. I do the American Theaterical LARP style.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yarp!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We don't roleplay, we just fight.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is, but players of Dag (& similar) avoid it. We don't actually role-play. Calling it LARP attracts ppl looking for what we don't offer.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The term 'LARP' is still widely used, just certain groups like Dagorhir don't consider themselves a LARP... even though they totally are....

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

On the other end of the spectrum, LARP also includes those Murder Mystery parties, so it's not that useful of a descriptor.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

A few years ago I went to one, it was probably one of the best parties ever. It's too bad that my friends kinda left me, so I can't even 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do one myself, no one would come... And I am talking about murder mystery parties...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like a Nerf version of the armored combat league

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I wouldn't say "nerf" but, as far as balls to the walls combat goes, Dag/Bel is as close to ACL as foam combat gets.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Amtgard is more LARP because of the magic class and the character playing.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Isn't it strange to think that Amtgard is flurbier than Dag.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you play?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We can swing some mean stick too.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What chapter are you with?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lots of Dag people go out to SKBC these days. And there is a strong SCA crossover group too.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My area is pretty cross game friendly. In the end we just wanna swing foam.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed. The more people out, the better it is for all of us.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No it's used. But other than silly clothes we don't do the roleplay thing. People expecting a LARP or tap-fighting will be disappointed. :/

11 years ago | Likes 280 Dislikes 1

Can't be hitting you too hard if you're wearing that

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's hard core and awesome and fun

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Excellent.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This was from a legal hit: http://imgur.com/eXoDiXb people who tap fight, like in dystopia or other LARPs might not appreciate it.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

An ex tried to get me into LARPing. Just wasn't for me. This sounds waaaay more fun.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I do belegarth. So, i'm right there with you. Foam fighting is my jam.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stick Jock for the win

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hmmm... see now that actually sounds like fun to me... more athletic and competitive.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It is much more fun. Muscles hurt like a sonuvabitch afterwards.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Depending on the experience of the fighters your up against you'll have your accidentals, then your neck/head, and privates hurt like a SoB.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hell yes.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does seem a bit less intense than the Armored Combat League. You pad your weapons.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but it costs way less $. I have friends in the ACL. Looks baller af.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Geek & Sundry did three episodes of a show around building and USING fantasy weapons. ACL guys did 2 of 'em. Nobody else trains for melee.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where does the SCA fall into all this?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I've been a member for a while but I've never heard it talked about in the context of other groups is all.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

SCA is less fantasy, more history. There is more "culture," and the fighting is heavier, but there is still no counting hit points etc.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Source: I fought Dagorhir for a number of years, and have now been in SCA for a few years. PM if you have questions or want to chat.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Neat.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sort of like Bellegarth. Extreme contact foam fighting, and the only roleplay is heavy drinking out of beer steins and singing after battle.

11 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Dag and Bel used to be the same game. Not much has changed I don't think. :)

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I started Bel when I was 14 in Utah, it's cool that other groups around here like Dag and Amtgard all invite each other to their events :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not much at all! OP, I used to be with the group Barad'Dun in Las Vegas!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is Bellegarth a wide spread thing? I know there's a group in my town that does that, but I thought it was a local thing.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's fairly big out west. They have multiple large events that are pretty fun. Like chaos wars, Battle for the ring, etc.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's pretty huge in the central US too. I live in Illinois and in my experience, any city with more than 30k people has a chapter nearby.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Belegarth (I think) has more chapters than Dagorhir. Especially on the west coast USA.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Belegarth is reasonably widespread. They split off from Dagorhir awhile back because of politics with some of the leaders.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Huh. Nice.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow... I've been going to Dagorhir for months and never thought to ask why some people call it "larping". Knowing is half the battle!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think a lot of it depends on from where you are. European larps tend to be a lot more contact based than american ones. It even shows in/1

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

in stuff like Vampire the masquerade. Where americans usually go with MET and refuse to touch each other. Whereas euro ones has us running/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

whereas euro ones run around in the middle of the night and hit each other across the head. It's why americans started SCA to differentiate

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's the difference between this and HEMA? Honestly, this seems like a less professional HEMA.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone? Anyone? No?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're dressing up, but actually walloping each other? Because the thing that kept me out of other LARP things has been the gentleness of it

11 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 0

Join the sca heavies combat. Full contact without the benefit of pussy ass foam.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

They do solid hits. Some people get series injuries, especially if the weapons are not made right.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a reenactor with a few good scars, there's a big spectrum of activities around. I don't think I could give up steel in combat...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH37iDa6IT8 (i think this is the one where people get wrecked with a glaive. i also lose at charging a wall)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

SCA is also worth looking into if you want even more full contact. The swords are foam tipped, but otherwise solid wood. [1/2]

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dag is hardcore. No roleplaying, just beating the shit out of each other. You should look up Dystopia Rising. You kill zombies! :D

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It kinda disappointed me, you can't use weapons that can bruise. http://www.dagorhir.com/index.php/rules/2-uncategorised/8-current-moa

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that's not enforced, and there would be a riot if anyone tried. I come home from every Dag event bruised as fuck. Come play!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I looked into it a bit, looks like there's one in Atlanta. That's doable. Might try it. I'll have to try any whip up some weapons/armor.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here's my eye after I took a shield to the face http://imgur.com/btTxQ7r The bleeding took about an 30 minutes to stop.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You might want to check out the SCA too but with that I warn you hand injuries are on the rise so if that's how you make a living...

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No, this looks like the beat the shit out of each other with foam swords kind. It's the best kind.

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I did that with my friend when he came over, recently I found the weapons, and I was told by my dad to throw them away because of moving...

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You should look into the SCA if Dagorhir or Amtgard isn't your thing :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honest to god walloping. And no keeping track of damage points. Solid hits and shield bashing are the drug the hooks you.

11 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

I mean there is some damage point stuff what with red yellow green and black and armor to the left right or center testicle...

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

How did you get into something like this? It seems really amazing.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See NOW I'm actually interested....

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Dear god this is exciting to know.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think all professional sports should be this way.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Battle of Nations is the next level up beyond that, with un-sharpened live steel, but that's a bit tougher to get into than the SCA. [2/2]

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, if I can't pelt people with my spell bags, what's the fucking point? That was my real reaction to my bf and his friends's LARPing.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"Spell bags"

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No spells in Dagorhir.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There's also http://belegarth.com/, which is more brutal than dagohir because the rule is sufficient force instead of just hitting.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Dagorhir's rule is also sufficient force. As well, they're the same game to the point that Bel players call their weapons with Dag terms.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They hit people in the head, which was one of my first questions

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As the former President of Bel I can tell you we don't hit people in the head. We do make people piss blood on occasion though.
