Motherfucking flutter kicks and leg lifts - laying on your back, holding feet 6" off the ground - worst shit from football 2-a-days.

Adding phrases like "Batman" and "Strength of Asgard" really improves your results

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I know it says 'it's simple' at the top, but the hardest part for beginners is the mental battle.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

These posts scare me. Having good technique and doing fewer sets is better than trying to do a ton. Be kind to your body and be patient.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

From couch to 5k: it gets you from 1 minute of running to 30 minutes of running in 9 weeks. I never ran before in my life, this helped a lot

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

*hands you a carrot* "This is a batman carrot!" Bitch, what kind of 5 year old do you take me for.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

When I was unemployed I went running 5 days a week (3 days in a row, 1 rest day) I lost something like 30 lbs. Then I got a dumb career.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Get some real shoes for running, it is going to help prevention of injuries, and watch some videos about running form, take caution before

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Visiting a good running store to make sure you get the right shoes for your feet will help a lot too.

Looking at this made me tired

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

As someone genuinely trying to learn how to run because I leave for basic training next year, will this plan for running actually work?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

for my advice, find somewhere fun to run, maybe there's a cool block in your neighborhood, or a trail. Or several. make it exciting

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know everyway around my neighborhood now because of running

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't push too hard and make sure you work in enough rest days. Otherwise you'll end up injured and starting over.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Saying "Just go" can be difficult for those with medical problems.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

That sounds like an excuse. Please reply with what the medical condition is and what it effects.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Patellar Tendonitis, hours of physical therapy, tried very short run/jog, sharp pain felt today on left knee after extension and standing on

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have you tried low impact cardio? Stuff like swimming, long walks, cycling, and rock climbing.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cycling is okay, but I'd like to run. I guess it's a human thing to want to do something you can't when at one time you could.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

theres some good work out videos on youtube, just pop in headphones and sweat in the comfort of your own home!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a shame you can't run, but you should still cycle even if you don't enjoy it as much as running. Just to keep fit and stuff.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This post has a MUCH higher chance of reaching the front page than it does of actually getting any of us Imgurians to exercise. +1!

10 years ago | Likes 288 Dislikes 4

Speak for yourself I've been hitting the gym 3 days a week

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's worth it if even one person starts exercising.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Does it count if I incorporate this into my existing workout?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes you should do this workout at least 7 times a day. No carbs after 3:30

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And it did! Made it to 2nd place at the time I commented at least

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good enough.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Favoriting it, saying I will do it later, thinking of going outside in exercise clothes in front of people --- nah

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ya, you are right.. It's much better to be fat and miserable the rest of your life

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ya, you are right.. It's much better to miss the point of this comment about being socially anxious about doing exercises in front of people

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just get over it.. nobody cares what you look like when you work out.. and exercise clothes are just sweatpants / sweatshirt or shorts and T

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just get over having a social anxiety. KAIH! Do you say the same when someone has a broken ankle? You're really a jerk.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plenty of Imgurians exercise. The trick is to ignore these posts and just do something simple, like starting with a short walk.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Or to find something you simply love doing. I don't even think of it as excercise, it's fun and I'd do it all the time if I could.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Currently at the gym closing my 2-hour work out. Coincidentally I am closing out with HIIT workout from that website which I discovered here

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or do something productive, like a well thought out training program.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Idk about you but this is my only problem, not laziness. Coming up with the actual training program for myself. Idk how/ what to do so...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What are your goals?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Overall better feeling? I'm not sure what you mean sadly... Mostly want to work on stomach arms and butt lmao

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A training program is useless if you don't actually stick to it in the long run. Any exercise you do is better than exercise you don't.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I love these posts because I do regularly hit the gym and it's so easy to incorporate this into my routine on the daily.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most people don't realize how little you actually need to exercise to be healthy. It's just a matter of working it in to your routine.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Day 3: 1k run. Lol.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

1k is not bad - only a little more than half a mile.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, of course it isn't. For people with no physical activity, that is a reasonable distance to expect at first.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

its true. took me literally months to run my first mile. and months to get the second one. Now I can do an extra half every week

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The program is bogus. No amount of calf raises or squats will help new runner do a 5k. &the run schedule is abysmal. There are better ways.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or go to the gym, get a good plan, and lift heavy shit

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

I'm too poor for the gym and I can't even lift the bar

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's really a non-exuse. There's plenty of bodyweight routines for beginners. They don't require a gym, and therefor are free. Even if 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

...you can't do a single push-up, you can just start with negatives. (Getting in the push-up position and lowering yourself down.) 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I weigh 150 doing pushups will not build mass I am too poor to build mass

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I weighed the same last year, now I weigh about 110, go for a lot of walks, long walks, brisk walks, slow walks, just get that 10.000 steps

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wtf why would I want to be that thin I already look like a skeleton

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You probably are not seeking advice, but cheap weights on Craigslist. or ask for donations on FB? Good luck dear poster.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't even afford food let alone weights

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Lift heavy things...shorter, simpler and doesn't end up with you being a skinny bitch

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 15

Exactly. And do a little stair-climbing and fast-walking. Far simpler than these ridiculous multi-chart , 50-exercises 10-week programs.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I hope no one gets discouraged from running because of your ignorance.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Imho, the vast majority of runners way overdo it.AND a lot of runners are emaciated and lack body strength. But, yes, cardio is important.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always have advocated barbells over running. Literally no goins from running.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

You don't run to get big and muscular. You run to get healthy. Simply lifting things won't do anything for your life expectancy.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Thank you.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

Enjoy your cardiovascular problems. You can't just do strength training, you need to do cardio as well to be healthy.

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 7

Because repeatedly lifting heavy things has no effect on your heart rate right

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Don't downvote this, meatheads.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

You could do weights+cardio. Have you ever done a superset? My heart rate stays higher than a run.

man, I have done that Make Me a Sandwich one-it kicks your ass! I recommend Buffy, Frost, and Selene. As a female, somewhat fit person. :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Needs more points, there are so many more workouts here. Was wondering what happened to neilaray.com.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a runner that's had to work back to 5k due to injuries. That's a horrible training plan. Too easy for 6 weeks then too much. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

2/2 ?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imgur for some reason isn't posting all my comments. Not sure why. 2/2 is a reply to my comment.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's better to start at 1k and add 0.5 each week if you just want to hit the 5k mark. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As a marathon runner, the main principle is still just to put one foot in front of the other. As long as you're doing that, you got this.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's how I started! and now I can't get enough of it!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I will share with you my super-secret race strategy which I will employ for the 1/2marathon on Saturday. This is high level, pro shit. 1

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Left, right, left, right, left, right, left...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought this post was just going to be the first slide and got excited.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Seems like the US school system completely failed you all. These are things we all had to do in PE from age 8-18 in Ireland

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It varies greatly. I had PE from 6-14, followed by schools sports (that were more demanding) from 14-18. I then played those sports at Uni.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is enforced till about 6th grade, then you get more electives choices, like band/foreign language/computer that are required to graduate

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Every school system has it's advantages and disadvantages I guess

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you want to get started, couch 2 5k app is awesome. Got me from running one block to running two miles straight now

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

no need for apps...piss off somebodys pitbull and run.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I found it online 10 years ago and used it to prepare for basic training. Works perfect if ya stick to it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I did that. They do a really good job of not overwhelming you at the start.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, Couch to 5K seems better than this one which has you start off running a full 1K.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I did that! And now I'm working on 10k, but on my own. I'm up to 4.5 miles, the accomplishment feels amazing!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lol try "0 to 5k in 20 minutes" When your roommates call you to let you know they signed you up for one when you haven't run in years

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Likewise. Down to 104kg, can run six miles now.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I literally just completed day 1 of that. Convinced myself I was going into heart failure and haven't moved since.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It sucked the first day for me too but keep at it! Do day 1 over again until you can do it without dying :)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is that even possible? My legs are asking.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Give yourself 1 day of break, and do it again. If your legs are still sore go slowly, if you do even less than your first day don't despair

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can send you my MapMyRun logs and there will be ups and downs. I have adult tachycardia I recently figured out, so that works against me

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be careful if you're starting out running. If you have a high body weight excessive strain on your leg joints can do permanent damage.

If you are obese stretch this into 16 weeks. It'll give you time to adapt. If you are feeling pain then stretch it even further.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hello IT band my old friend... You didn't let me finish my run until the end... And now it hurts. Yeah ok I'm not a poet.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Scoliosis is why running is death. My hips being two different heights is also not good for running :(

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also if you weigh 384 pounds and decide Dance Dance Revolution would be a good way to lose weight. If only I could go back to 2002...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know this. Fucked up my knee. :(

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the beginners...It's simple... Just go out and break your knees.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

this is why i suggest cycling/exercycles to those who are particularly overweight. far easier on the joints

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Start out using an elliptical. It's low-impact and once you're light enough swith to some jogging.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I picked up running to get fit. Got shin splints. Promptly had to stop. It sucks.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've had that shit for as long as I can remember. Sucks indeed.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Technique/form is everything!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is really the truth. If you are overweight dont run. Change your diet and lift weights, and if your worried that you are going to be (1

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

*you're

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Bulky from all the lifting or you dont want to look like a bodybuilder. Dont worry that takes years of dedication. You will still be lean.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Interval runs, 30s on, 30s off, if anything hurts, take a break or stick to walking until your body is use to it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, no kidding. I fell out of a tree when I was a kid and have severe scar tissue damage in my legs, bad hip and calf issues

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can start with a slow walk. I was 96kg when I started running I know its bad but I've dropped 10kg alr. Doing something is better.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I'm still just at the walking stage (I want to add lifting weights) and I've lost 25lbs.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

NO ITS SIMPLE JUST GO RUN

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"It's simple." I fuckin' wish. Tell that to my shin splints.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

proper shoes (proper equipment for anything) is very important!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Luckily for running shoes are the only important thing. Every other piece of clothing is optional. At least that's what i gathered online.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yes, true. the rest of your running apparel should just be comfortable for you to run in.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Swimming is best. Start with "60's" and work down to "30's". 60 seconds to swim 1 length, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but its soooo boring

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My knees are permashit. Get sore fast, so I just jog at high inclines on my treadmill instead of buying an elliptical.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Running form and good shoes has a lot to do with it. I was heavier (220) and started running. No problems.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even if you are healthy, you shouldn't run on asphalt/pavement it's terrible for your knees.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Not exactly true. However, run on grass as much as possible, especially,if you will do high mileage.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

or if youre like me, high matabulism and trying to gain weight, then that means no jogging excessively

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These lists never provide enough rest for your muscles.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if my knees are a bit stuffed already? Can i still strengthen them.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Run on your toes. Not tight, just enough to give cushioning. It's more natural and efficient and way less damaging.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the ideas everybody

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you have a gym membership, treadmills are easier on the joints than pavement

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Try swimming. Leg exercise with no joint impact.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Walking for long distances will help first. And doing muscle/stability workouts. Use elipitical... Bike.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Id advice consulting a physical therapist. If that's not an option try low impact like swimming or biking. Make sure to take it slow!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do not ski, other than that I know little about what is healthy for legs

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You mean mountain ski? Cross country should be fine as long as there's no big hills to go down on. Also rollerblading is nice.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If it's your actual knee joints, cycle or swim instead. If it's weak muscles that's fixable with a slow, careful start to your exercise.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

But avoid cycling in a too high a gear or up steep hills. That's a great way to screw your knees up.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yea I should definitely find out what is damaged

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Chances are doctors aren't gonna tell you anything. My knees are apparently fine which bothers me because sometimes they hurt like fuck.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea! Strength training and walking is better than running at first. Running requires a considerable amount of strength.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've heard that "power walking" (Basically walking fast) is better for you (And less stressful on your body)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True, you need to get to a healthy workout weight

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Lots of heavy weight people in my running group are walkers, then move into run walk. They support each other in their journey.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Although how you do THAT, I am less clear.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Increase activity in simple ways-take the stairs, walk a mile, etc. Eat better. Actual "working out" is likely to cause injury at first.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cycling and swimming are gentle on your body and joints if you have excess weight to begin with. But be sure to get your bike fitted right.

The golden rule about weight loss, not health. Your body does not care where it gets the calories from, a deficit is a deficit. Eat less

I would recommend cycling or swimming if you have lot of excess weight to start with. But be sure to have your bike fitted right.

What about an elliptical to ease the impact?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also effective, though watch out for strain on tendons/ligaments still.

Thanks!

Running outside is definitely riskier than running on a treadmill, even though it's more fun. If you're a larger person start on treadmill

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

id say running on grass or some other soft terrain is better for joints than treadmill

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

true, if it isn't winter. i forget other people live in places where it isn't often winter. ;)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if theres snow already where you live, move asap o_o

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No snow yet, but I know it's coming... running outside every chance I get

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I went running for the first time in a long time and I'm considerably heavier now than when I was on track. I pulled something, and it hurt.

10 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

Was it an LCL? Because christ those hurt. Pulled mine a week before a 2 day excursion -_-

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am with you man. I ran a 5K 2 days ago after all you can eat Chinese buffet the day before and getting 3 hours of sleep. Now I am dead

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel you there. I put on a bit, went for a run, and ended up spraining an ankle.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

This. This is why I refuse to run. (That and my knees are knackered)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Use RICE method to heal your ankle! Rest. Ice. Compression (rap firmly with stretchy bandage). Elevation. Also take ibuprofen!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Step1: submerge your feet in boiling rice. Step 2: ??? Step 3: Profit

Basically, Netflix and Chill.

Good job on the getting back out there!! For me, joining a running group (out of a running store) helped me avoid mistakes that had 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

A running store? That's a thing? Where do you live?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A college town in the USofA

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are stores that sell only merchandise for outfitting runners. They also offer help and organize runs.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I assume he means an athletic store, but if not then idk

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sidelined me in the past, like adding miles too fast, hydration and fuel issues, and general motivation. PM me if you want advice 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I want to train for a marathon, any advice?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Take it easy, don't rush, keep the training constant and regular, you're not a superman. That's all I know and I constantly disobey.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, don't.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Online training plans are way too aggressive for first timer. Not sure of your history but start with 5k, 10k, half marathon. Only add 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

<--- Yeah... that's my heel. Running is kind of a non option for me.

10 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

Can you bike or swim? Maybe do an elliptical?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I bike, I was quite fit for a while... till I had heart problems. Now trying to get back to that stage.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you're having heart problems definitely consult a doc and possibly a physical therapist on exercises if possible.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was having heart problems, not having them atm.

Have you looked into getting the hardware out? I'm going to get 14 screws removed from my arm. Should help with the pain & mobility. Cheers.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Having the hardware out wouldn't solve the problem of no fatty pad under under the bone. Also it would mean 6 months + of a buttload of pain

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry to hear that. Take care.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks, I do. You too, I too have 14 screws in my arm, but it's not causing me any issues.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is that your calcaneus? You can likely run some day.I have screws &a plate in my foot & a year post op was running fine. But I'm no doctor:)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even standing up for long periods is pretty insanely painful for me. I've not been able to go hiking, running, rollerblading since I did it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How long ago were the screws put in?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years ago next Friday, the screws are not the problem. The lack of a fatty pad under my heel is. I DESTROYED it in the same incident.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you should probably get that checked out, doesnt look normal...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would seem there are rusty screws in your foot. I'm no doctor but I wager that is unusual.

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I broke my heel... it was in, iirc, 9 pieces before fixation.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It looks like you screwed up.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Well that's one way this dish could be plated.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Run on your toes broseph. Its more natural and way less damaging to all joints. Tendons will be sore for a bit but it helps so much

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 11

Hah, you're greatly misunderstanding how the foot works. Also "Running on your toes more natural"?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's literally how we are designed o run. The foot acts a spring to absorb shock. Read "Born To Run" by Chris McDougal

http://www.barefootrunning.fas.harvard.edu/4BiomechanicsofFootStrike.html Here's the concept but a shattered heal is not immune to this.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it's not the toes but the ball of the foot, and If anything being barefoot is far FAR more painful for me now as the natural pad (1/2)
