They were going to write "Freddie Mercury's final public appearance was on Feb...", but then changed it, and missed the extra <'s> that should have been removed(?)
Reportedly, Brian May was able to show Freddie a VHS tape of the Wayne's World scene with Bohemian Rhapsody shortly before his death, and Freddie loved it and gave it his blessing. It's something we can't know if it's 100% true, but I really hope it was to give him some positivity about just how beloved he and his music still were in his last days.
I'm certain he knew it'd get a revival. Everyone in the band are banger songwriters in their own right and they dappled in all sorts of genres beyond just stadium and pop rock.
The song 'Don't stop me now' was written by Freddie about his love for fast living - it's my favourite Queen song, but it always brings a twinge of sadness, knowing that he probably contracted HIV in that period of his life.
That five years wasn't just the gradual progress of medicine though. I'd say more of if government systems at the time didn't treat HIV/AIDS like "the gay disease" and deliberately let gay people die rather than acknowledge it as a global health crisis, he'd still be alive today.
And sadly, it took big, high profile deaths like his to really raise awareness among the general public to the point that governments finally had to start doing something about it.
He didn't directly cause it, but basically gave it a thumbs up. Reagan's legacy is some of the worst poison that will never stop damaging America for what it did and what it set up for the future in so many ways.
What's funny is that both he and Rob Halford (gay singer for Judas Priest) both started dressing the way people at the gay bars dressed (Freddie as a Castro Clone, and Rob from the leather bars), and then when they performed, the fans didn't catch on and just thought it was cool. Then all the metal crowd started dressing like gay leathermen without knowing it.
Part of it is fashion (like people who wear leather vests and pants). It shows people you may be into a more kinky sub/dom sort of thing, or you just want to fit in at the club. The leather armbands around your bicep tell people if you're a top (left arm), bottom (right arm), or down for whatever (both arms). If you wear a leather harness (those are straps around shoulders and chest), part of that is fashion, but part is they're handles to grab during sex.
This was more important decades ago because you didn't have an internet profile to tell people what you were into sexually, and you don't want to wear a big sign, so you did things like clipping your keys to a belt loop (on the left for top, on the right for bottom), and colored handkerchiefs (I don't think this was widespread, people know it but not many actually did it), each color stood for a sex act, and left back pocket/right back pocket to show top/bottom.
It's also why he had that rough-looking beard in most of the music videos shot in 1989 and 1990 (all of the videos from The Miracle and Headlong from Innuendo).
I was just providing some info, guessing that people who had only seen Freddy with a mustache may have discovered Queen later in their run, when he was mustache free for about the first half of his career. It was fun watching their style change from the glam rock era into disco and then the wild 80s.

That scene really brought the sing back into the public eye. It's a real shame he didn't get to see the public reaction to it. The original meme

Wild to think that if he'd contracted HIV only five years later he'd likely still be alive today.

It's a perfect example of "social murder". Reagan didn't pull the trigger, but he did set up the dominos and then knocked over the first one.

As a clueless heterosexual male, what is with all the leather straps in the gay culture? Are they just handles? Places to hang accessories??
Billis75
