Can I be tossed in as an army veteran? I am a Purple Heart receiver with 100% P&T.
BuddyHank
I've seen a couple burials at sea, I'm in the Navy. They add weights to the casket to help weigh it down so it sinks.
Modem085
Aren’t this international waterways if you go some miles from the coast ?
symbioticfungiarboltroll
The mafia has a program to help debters do the same thing.
jakedmull74
I'm actually happy about that, it's bummed me out that nobody goes back into the dirt like they should. And like I want to. Eventually.
NZSheeps
I don't see anything about the body having to be dead....
moecurlylarry
Where's grampa? He's sleeping with the fishes
jimicus
The Royal Navy in the U.K. has a similar scheme for committing ashes to the sea. My dad’s off the coast of Portsmouth thanks to this.
frostsofthenorth
canada does it too
youlooklikehalfabuttpuppet
And if you just so happen to charter an offshore fishing excursion at the same time: BEST FUNERAL EVER.
0Steve0
Legal here in New Zealand too. Need special permission though and must be in one of the approved sites, mostly old ammo dumps.
JeanLucPicard
I don’t get the joke here. Or is this supposed to actually be a bit of trivia? Because it’s not surprising or anything. Of course it’s legal
Hotjoe1991
I don't understand why this is so shocking
00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
I dont wanna end up in davey jones locker
FizzleCracks
Why would it NOT be?
yodadude
My neighbor died last June. He wanted to be buried at sea. 4 of his friends drowned digging the grave
wizzardseye
3 Miles from shore... in traditional international waters (some places its not, but that wasn't the point)
Sm9yCg
You mean "outside the land boundaries of the USA"
qweesdy
Unfortunately there are other restrictions too - for a start, you have to be dead first.
iShoot556
That’s how they dumped Bin Laden’s body!
LiamNeesonOfficial
Wait. Was he in the Navy? Whoa.
NerdvanaNC
Imagine being buried at sea just to be haunted by a ghost with a long beard who has an exceptional bone to pick with the US.
merprincesspacifica
Check out Ask A Mortician on the tuubes for further morbid fun facts about the funeral industry.
bamanator
We should be able to bury or burn our own bodies without all that expense. In other country’s the Monks cremate the bodies.
cazkey
Thank you for spelling out the law for me. from a law abiding non murderous citizen.
velvetthornweaver
So...what you're saying is....THE OCEAN IS HAUNTED!
glaug
OCEAN'S HAUNTED
0570
That’s actually a really good way to get rid of a body. Nobody would look for a missing person there
McGrunz
Now they do.
spaceasaurus
Gonna need a bigger boat. For all the bodies
canadiantimberwolf
Cool it Dexter
MyBrokenArmsAndArmor
I read this and I thought you meant good as opposed to burial or cremation, then I read further.
Zigor22
Didn’t work for Scott Peterson or whoever.

DavidAndrews
Well it costs well over a thousand dollars to get that far off shore and you tend to be noticed when you take a trip like that. those 1/2
are the snags in this plan 2/2
parismaker
it's just about 10 km...
Fluffyknives
In Europe we cremate the body first and then sink the urn or dump the ashes at sea.
JustAnotherKyloRen
And in France you can't even keep your pet's ashes...
Dontgochasenewaterfalls
That's cause y'all are intelligent
Mithi
And the urn is made of salt.
Sharksi
Yep. That's what we did for my father. He's "burried" off the cost of Kiel in Germany
sneaker2
Did you need to go to Holland or Denmark? Heard it's illegal in Germany to get the ashes.
No. You need to buy a water dissolvable urn though. And the urn was delivered to the funeral service people
siemensG
That’s also how we do the ceremony on submarines. We surface for the ceremony or some of the old guys want shot out of the torpedo tubes.
TheBullshitter
I want to get shot out of the torpedo tubes now!
PeteButtigieg
I'm also on a US submarine. It would have been cooler to shoot them out of the torpedo tube not cremated.
z3lfmoord
They shoot them out cremated?
Yeah, I agree
ginniper
My funeral director has a really big potato gun and a drainage pond next to the waste water treatment facility so it's basically the same
PaintYourWagon
All while Cousin Merle plays taps on the jug and my friends fire off a 21 nerf gun salute.
DapperAndroid
*THUNK* ... *SPLASH* ... "Rip."

Doesn't cremation cause a fuck load of pollution. Seems like a waste if you're just dumping the body anyways.
Stack gas cleaning is a thing in the first world
schlummi
Well...we prefer to not find corpses at our beaches.
Damn American corpses swimming to shore, show some respect you zombie fucks!
KNSKumo
That's why we're moving now to a Soylent Green scenario. Pollution free cities and food for everyone.
snoopydoo123
You can be flashfrozen and turned to dust now
HowBoutThemDawgs
.
Magpiebones
You just incinerate some meat and bones?
Feralkyn
it's probs down to the smoke used, esp. with the fuel. Smoke from fires is supposedly a p. big pollution cause.
Dxb105
Not that simple. Takes 4-6 hours of high-powered burners then they grind the bones. Much worse then you would think
Good point. I don't know enough about those to say.
m1oberon
Sounds better than worms
ottotravel
It's just ocean worms.
Timtimgrimslimjim
Um...there's some nasty scary shit at the bottom of the ocean, dude. I'm not so sure.
NightDany
I'd rather my dead ass get eaten by cthulhu than a worm
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are fuckin zombie worms on the ocean floor that will eat through bones.
AmachiHitsugi
Not if Cthulhu gets you first.
Sure but at least I'll get eaten by demon worms
tiderfish
That will save you a ton in burial fees
FieldTester96
See i plane to go on a funeral pyre. All it costs you is some matches
notsensitivetoyourfeelings
Illegal in the good ole most free u s of a. (Source: my funeral home I tried to pre arrange with)
WeirdEnigma
Yeah.... You kinda need more than just that. And no I'm not talking about lighter fluid.
Grudgebearingmidget
You need some pyre wood, which if you live out in the woods/have a friend that lives on a large plot of land...should be easy
THRAWN18
So will cremation
trailb1azer
Ya and no zombies!
universalcode
I don't know why you're getting downvoted. Cremation is much cheaper than burial, even if it costs $1000.
SmellyLumpus
These two are my plan. Set aflame on a boat. Good old Viking burial
msmarymac
It cost $2000 to cremate my father. Not exactly cheap.
delusiLifter
How much would it cost to bury?
DetectiveSloth
Internet says on average $7k-$10k
Yep, what @detectivesloth said. Plus you have to pay for a casket which the cheapest we saw was $1,500.
And headstones charge by the letter
OfficialFBl
Yeah but this is just renting a boat and buying some cement. Way cheaper.
TheGreatBlueHeron
Plus you get a nice boat ride, maybe fish a little...
I'm sure there is more to it than that...
Didn't you read the post? Just dump it in there.
