Anyone a Myths and Legends podcast fan? They have excellent accurate tellings of these stories.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#9 actually has a happy ending. The original here is a version written hundreds of years later.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Disney gives no fucks about anyone's stories or copyright but its own. Ever heard of Kimba? Or the Mickey Mouse Protection Act?

Beauty and the Beast (Brazzers version): The Beast ends up eating her.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In defense of #2, I also ate my wife on our wedding night...

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 2

Not to be a downer but the Disneg version of Rapu sel she didn't cut her own hair. EUGENE tricked her and cut it with a mirror shard. 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rapsunel's hair was both her greatest gift and her greatest curse. It allowed her to help people at the cost of her freedom.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the original story of "The Beauty and the Beast," isn't that supposed to happen? Husband eating his wife out?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh my GOD so many of these are just plain WRONG you should be ashamed. Have you even read half of these?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

John Smith didn't rape Pocahontas, she also chose to convert to Christianity and willingly stayed and married an English tobacco farmer. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't give some bullshit story to make it more Interesting, was it the happy Disney version, no, but don't go around calling ppl rapists

Ariel feels as if every step she takes is like 1000 cuts to her feet. And she still walks up a fucking mountain. She turns into sea foam

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

#2, but--doesn't everybody do that? I mean you know, with the whole "married" thing and being legally enforced to only--eat--your spouse?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Flynn cuts Rapunzel's hair to free her from gothel in the Disney version

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ARE YOU LORE?!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In Original Repunzel, her magic tears heal his blindness.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Snow white: in the original, it's not her stepmother, but actual mother that's queen (and trying to kill her)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Woah! The Pocahontas "true" portion is almost entirely BS.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The Mulan one is wrong. The 'she was forced to join the harem' wasn't added until some 100+ years later. The original one ends with her (1)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I also read up that theres a version where she became a decorated general and retired with all this awesome land

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

coming back home to her family. The one Shang is based on never finds out she's a female until she's returned home.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Mulan "original" is not the original. Basically: Mulan originally took place during Khan rule. They also never found out she was a girl.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

she fought for 12 years right? and then returned home IIRC

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes I believe so! Around 10-12 years I think? I can't quite remember what the poem said exactly off the top of my head haha

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, sounds like that paraphrase of the original Beauty and the Beast is bullcorn. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beauty_and_the_Beast

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Now, the original Sleeping Beauty...that's some craziness. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun,_Moon,_and_Talia

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh it has a happy ending! I really wasn't expecting that. Thanks for sharing!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This thing's been reposted enough times, someone should have corrected the misspellings of "Rapnuzel" and "Cindarella" by now.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the correct spelling is Cillerenda

9 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

And the fact that some of these are flat out wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That would require, like, effort.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It also requires more pixels.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some of these are true, but many of these are either wrong, not actually the original version, or paraphrasing poorly. (details in replies)

9 years ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 1

As a folklore and fairy tale enthusiast, please have all of these upvotes on your corrections.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

#2: Flat out not true. This what her jealous sisters in the original story hoped would happen. It didn't.

9 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 0

Yeah I've NEVER heard of a version where he eats her.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#8: The original has a happy ending. The ending mentioned here is a variation written a thousand years afterwards.

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 3

#4: True, but Rapunzel's tears upon his return restores his sight.

9 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 0

#5: She was not raped by John Smith. Ever. She was however captured at one point and may have been raped. She was not kidnapped, (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 2

She married an englishman, and died during her trip back to England with him. (She did however, die young at 21)

9 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

She married John Rolf and they had one son named Thomas, and she is buried in England I believe?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

#1: Purgatory is a good thing the original story - Ariel by her act of sacrifice actually earns herself a soul.

9 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 0

I thought she turned into seafoam?

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Sea foam = death. But she got a soul so she went to purgatory instead of just ceasing to exist.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

She had the choice to kill him and turn into an air spirit or kill herself and turn into seafoam. So she jumps into the sea.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

#6 and #7 are accurate. Note however that for Hercules, the death of his family is actually the start of his 12 labors story.

9 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

And also the inspiration for Kratos in God of War, no?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Funny, considering what he does to his half-brother in 3.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Funny, considering what Kratos does to his half-brother (annoyingly referred to as Hercules, his Roman name) in the 3rd game

9 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

#3: This one's actually sorta correct - but it refers to a variation by the brother's grim. In the original the queen dies another way.

9 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

What's the other way?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sees her marrying the prince, chokes with rage and dies. (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Fuckin metal.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After she thinks she kills Snow white with a poisoned comb (it's a comb not an apple in the origial), she asks her mirror again, (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

In Tangled Flynn cuts off Rapunzels hair

It does say "Disney version" as well have a picture from Tangled.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

And as far as I know Disney didn't make any other films based on rapunzel

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Rapnuzel*

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 22

Oh haha I thought the correction was that Rapunzel cut off her own hair not a spelling error.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I just find it funny because Rapnuzel sounds like some serious business german rap organization

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

All I hear is rapnoodle

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the original version, the princess doesn't kiss the frog after which it turns into a prince, but throws it against a wall!

9 years ago | Likes 220 Dislikes 0

And it works

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember that. He even said "I could only turn back after a princess showed me kindest" I was like "bitch she just launched you 10 feet."

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

It doesn't work the other way around with royalty, as Princess Diana did not transform into a frog -_-

SO MANY WATERMARKS

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

But can we get more?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Many such stories were used as cautionary tales for children or the peasant rabble so they're usually quite rough.

9 years ago | Likes 143 Dislikes 0

They seemed to also be a coping mechanism for mistreated step children.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Though the little mermaid and hunchback of notredame are stories in their own right.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Actually the ending of LM basically says "bad children kill angels", ´cos ariel becomes an angel and gets a chance to earn a soul

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

There's debate over the ending, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Mermaid

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What aspect of his comment Sid you think you were clarifying ot adding to

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Do you know why the little mermaid was written? It wasn't for children to be warned or peasants to be quelled.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He said many, not all. And what was your actual point in saying those were stories in their own right? The rest weren't stories?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Brothers Grimm did not invent a whole range of fairy tales, they collected them. They didn't make those stories, they developed.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The other tales are stories in their own right, written for their defined purpose.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Little Mermaid is more brutal. Every step she takes, feels like walking on a thousand knives. And when she dies, she becomes sea foam.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

which happens because she throws herself from a cliff

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ship actually.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've heard it several ways, but most often the cliff.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the original, written by H.C. Anderson, it's a boat. Original: http://www.andersenstories.com/da/andersen_fortaellinger/den_lille_havfrue

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#5 I am a descendant of Pocahontas. That is NOT how it happened.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 9

Wikipedia has a good piece on this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocahontas#England

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah that one is totally wrong. I think people said the live action Pocahontas movie with Christian Bale in it was pretty accurate

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Suuuuuuuuuure you are.

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

pocahantas's great grand son had at least 7 kids, most of whom had multiple kids themselves, some as much as 9 kids! That was 300 years 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

ago. By now there have to be thousands, if not tens of thousands of descendants. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That's a nuclear knowledge bomb.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

i'm skeptical

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Pocahontas was never "romantically" involved with John Smith. He basically took a brief pit stop in her village

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not certain about Beauty & the Beast, but the others check out.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Only sort of check out. They're mostly either not telling the entire ending, or are variations from the original.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They screwed up the Disney version of Rapunzel. I don't have much faith in their accuracy on the old ones.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only completely correct ones that don't skip out on relevant details are #6 and #7.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've read the original Grimm Brothers beauty and beast and he most certainly doesn't eat Belle. She's like 13 and is given to the beast 1/x

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

To proceed her siblings and father from the beast. They do become friends and later married. But he doesn't eat her.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I found the same when I looked around online. Thanks for confirming.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i couldn't find any information about the john raping pocahontas thing.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

John never raped her, but she was kidnapped.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yes i did read that
