The Senate just passed the tax reform bill 51-49.
http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-gop-tax-plan-20171201-story.html

Here are some of my favorite tweets about it:

Call me biased if you want to, I'll just congratulate you on your massive piles of wealth.

*Edit: a lot of people are rightfully pointing out that Democratic Senator Nancy Pelosi tried a similar tactic with the ACA. She is a soulless, partisan politician who's likely on motivated by her donors as well.

However, there's a key difference. Her legislation largely sought to ensure that millions would be protected from insurerance who would otherwise make health insurance unaffordable or unattainable.

This fucking bill provides benefits or deductions to hundreds comprised of friends and donors subsidized by millions, taxing things that were previously deducted from income, like public school dontations and student loan interest. Meanwhile, some private school tuition is now deductible.

I try to be objective, but at this point, if you still support the Trump administration, you're either getting conned or in on the deal. And when I say deal I mean stealing from and lying to the American people to put money in your pocket. There are no exceptions.

Every single thing this man ran on was a farce on a monumental level:
- Hire American (his clothing line is STILL manufactured overseas)
- Jobs to coal workers (while they have changed coal regulations, no jobs have returned)
- Middle class legislation (they claim this tax bill is but it's not)
- DRAIN THE SWAMP (this is so laughable it's no longer funny, as whatever was drained was only replaced with far worse monsters)
- Let's not forget that part of his persona as a candidate (before his candidacy) STARTED with the baseless and absurd claim that Obama wasn't born in the US.

So yes, if you really still have to cheer for your team and somehow feel the need to defend the GOP, sure. Pelosi bad. No argument here. But if that's your argument to what's happening right now, please open your fucking eyes and take off the team jacket.

I'm just waiting for Trump to try to make himself president for life as it's got all the other signs of dictatorship already.

I just wonder if we vote out our current representatives, who replaces them? Do we have any idea they won’t be the exact same?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the majority of the GOP is no longer conservative.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

How is this legal!?!?

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 5

This is kinda what happened with Obamacare.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 20

The ACA was actually combed through and re-written in bipartisan manner. But the GOP did pretend that this was what happened with it. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

So they are still all massive fucking hypocrites for ever pretending they had a problem with ramming through half-baked legislation. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I agree that too much legislation is half baked and government workers can be idiots. Just ask Ron Swanson.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

It's legal because the people who decide what's legal said it was.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Same for voting Republican.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Wellllll... it’s also the definition of practice. Never did like that quote.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Not really. To practice efficiently you should make minute changes to alter the outcome until you get the outcome you desire. Like

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Throwing a ball, if you aren’t getting the ball to go where you want you don’t continue to release the ball from the same spot.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, practice is gradually doing something better each time. Not exactly the same action exactly the same way each time.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That’s not how doing something over & over works. No one escapes variation. Humans aren’t binary in their action. Any repetition is practice

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Insanity isn't just about actions and doing them better. Expecting a rock to turn to lava from hitting it with grass over and over 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And trying again and again, that's insanity. Even though it hasn't happened yet do it again and it will! - insanity 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So... when is the first 'Hunger Games' supposed to start?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The one good point that was made was this probably won't become law. It has to go to the House, them back to the Senate, then they have to

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

The house could pass the Senate version as it stands. Similar to how ACA was passed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems doubtful. They could barely get 51 people to agree on it. Now they're expecting 218 people to just rubber stamp a piece of legialation

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they hastily passed without any changes at all. We'll see.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed I think the house republicans are looking for what they see as a 'win' Finding 218 might not be impossible Not my favorite scenario

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably might be a stretch. Remember the House passed that disaster of a healthcare bill and the Senate voted against it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The Senate couldn't even agree on this bill. They passed it before it was even finalized, just so they could say they did.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The House will no doubt fuck it up and the Senate probably won't be able to agree on it and the government will shut down again.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Republicans had 9 years now to figure out a fucking plan and when they were handed the legislative and executive branch, they had nothing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well said on all points

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

approve it as is before sending it to King Douche.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Only problem is that the house is even more radically conservative than the Senate.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well here's to them not being able to agree on any thing.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is sounding an awful lot like taxation without representation

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 11

The problem is that so many people chose these GOP representatives. It's absurd.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You see, a lit of people think that all taxes are bad, but forget that the forefathers didn’t fight AGAINST taxes, but taxing without 1/2

Is it not at the discretion of the giver, where their money should go? How do you find yourself entitled to a portion of a gift?

so we agree, it's not earned.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

Citation needed.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. I do. It's not easy to live on < $40k but very easy to live on $250k. Plus that's the percentage before deductions. No one pays that.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You do realise scaling taxes are a thing right? Though from your comments it seems logic isn't your thing. So probably not.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

There is no tax cut for the rich in the House plan, and .08% cut in the Senate plan. They removed some ridiculous taxes, and that's it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

Not a general income tax percentage decrease, but countless deductions and benefits that clearly only benefit the wealthy.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

So.. passing on your savings to your child is what only wealthy people do?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Most people don’t have more than ten million to pass on, so what exactly is your point

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Moreso than not, yes. Exclusively, no.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I did the math and will see my tax burden lowered. I am middle class.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

How could you have possibly done that? Has the whole bill been available to the public?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

The rates and standard deductions are. I use the standard deduction. So the math is pretty simple.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you don't have many itemized deductions that is indeed possible.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

in 2013 70% used Standard Deduction. The Senate plan includes mortgage and property tax deductions. A single filer mortgage on ~ $250K

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

load pays about the standard deduction in interest. An 80K income is required to qualify for such a loan. Senate plan tax savings $1.5K

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're very likely right. And if there's any common sense improvement for the masses in the bill, it's a trojan horse

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Single Median income $59K using standard deduction (most do) will have about $900 less tax burden. About 16% decrease (6.4K to 5.5K)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The issue is those cuts will expire soon. But the cuts for the rich and corporations don't expire unless another bill is passed.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Another bill will be passed before that happens. Senate had to do it this way to avoid filibuster. What cuts for the rich don't expire?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

None of the cuts for the rich or corporations expire. Unless actively removed via another bill.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I understand rate for corporate taxes don't expire. What are a couple of examples of things that don't expire for the rich?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Private school fees are now tax deductible. *under certain circumstances* (hint regular people can't use it)

Or a revolution. People can take a lot of punishment but there is always a breaking point.

Sure thing, a few hundred thousand armed people will beat the fucking national guard and more. Would never happen.

Do it.

Thats where the fact that you can buy a rifle comes in handy

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

for a revolution to work you have to have some edge on your oppressors we dont really have one

Kill politicians

The people with the power to revolt (I. E. The ones with guns) are the ones who have been taken in, hook line and sinker.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It will never happen. The GOP has spent decades turning us into a lazy society of consumers for that very reason.

In my 38 years I've YET to see the advertisement people truley revolt. And my autocorrect changed American to advertisement. I'm leaving it.

LA riots, after the Rodney King verdict. Small, unsustained, but definitely a revolt.

Not exactly inaccurate.

Or they'll go social media to complain then do nothing about it.

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

That'll teach 'em!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not if they can’t log onto their social media with their current internet package.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Eh, Americans won't do shit. Probably vote out a bunch of Reps in a year, but thats it.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

not even that

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

No, they will. The Reps are only endearing themselves to the minority of their own constituents, so they'll lose some seats.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a life long republican, I can honestly say that the party seats are currently full of a bunch of corrupt, out-of-touch, shitsticks.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We aren’t self reliant enough nor do we have an alternative system ready to put in place if we did revolt

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We didn’t have a system ready the first time either

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It doesn't have to immediately jump to that. First, there should be at least mass protests.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Protests. Don't. Do. Anything.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Because occupy Wall Street did *so* much.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well you can't expect instantaneous results. And obviously, Americans have much to learn about protesting.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because we're short on those..

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Apparently, yes. Protests even against way smaller things are more common in other democracies.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even if it's stupid shit, at least it's better if the voice of the people is heard and not just "seen 5:31"
