I have flat-coated retrievers and they are through and through a water dog. I don't care how damn cold that water is, they get in it willingly like it is nothing (They are moderatly large so when they pull on their leash, they can drag the kids no problem) I honestly don't know how they do it. Now deep snow does tend to bother them because of their webbed toes, the snow packs in there and you have to pick it out for them.
That could be Tumilik. It was snowing here a few hours ago and she kept begging to go outside. And once outside she simply curled up and slept there. Once back in the house she just goes back to the door and whines to go outside again.
For a husky to be jostled from behind and still be half asleep, his Dad is a good Dad. I can see him sleeping in the snow, hearing Dad's voice and just thinking 'it gonna be a good day...
semi related - farmer friend of mine has a couple cattle dogs (I'm not a dog person so can't tell you the breed, sorry) that are very cold tolerant. They are working dogs and frequently sleep outside year round. Two years ago some Karen called animal welfare and filed a complaint against him and his farm.... she probably thought the cows were cold too
anywho... awesome video of your (yours?) pooch on the porch
When I was a kid we had a dog who was very lean because she loved to run all the time. Child me named her Run because of it. One day I came home from school to find out someone called animal welfare on us saying we starve her because she's so skinny. They had to come and did some quick tests and found she's one of the healthiest dogs they've seen in a while. Funny enough, the woman that called then had her dogs tested and they were taken away.
Some breeds of dog have undercoats under the fur you see. Most people might look at a dog like that and think they're freezing. The reality is it's more like that dog is in a snow suit and tucked into a sleeping bag. He's fine. If he wasn't fine he would do something about it.
oh, snap! we have that one for our kids. I could totally see people getting the wrong idea if they grow up with that book and no explanation that it's not actually applicable to cows. hm. now I'm trying to think about what mixed signals I've been confused about. guess this is why it's important to have specialists give the final word on stuff, it's great that they do actually send someone knowledgeable to investigate rather than take a layman at hos/her word.
Yeah, that "If you're cold, they're cold, bring em inside" ad worked really well on people that don't know how fur works. Yes, your chihuahua rat is cold. If your dog has fluff, it is fine in temperatures much lower than we're comfortable.
My golden doodle is even all that fluffy and he camps leaning against the cold sliding glass door during the winter. I can only imagine a dog with a proper undercoat sitting in a warm house thinking, "Why are we in here? Why did I bother growing this extra layer?"
Lots of huskies and related breeds will full on refuse to come in during the winter, lol. My grandparents had a malamute and a samoyed and they fricken adored the snow and often stayed outside overnight perfectly happily.
I have a part husky part black Labrador, and at night he keeps running outside for the cold, and then inside to try to get us to join in on the cold. It's like he crossed between his love of the cold and his love of being around people.

we had a Samoid/Golden Retriever cross on our farm. She loved to sleep in the snow and look like this.

Probably the best sleep that dog has had in a long time. They're quite literally designed for this. The snow actually insulates them.

Dude that looked like the best kind of sleep.

A good layer of snow really keeps them warm. It's a good insulator.

Chihuahua's are desert dogs, they don't mind the heat, they don't like the cold.
JustaguyfromNH
you are spot on. Many of these breeds literally get hot during winter when its above 60 inside.
