Everything’s on track for completion.

The dude kicking back at the wall while the grab is doing all the hard work. Perfect division of labour.

I love seeing purpose built hardware doing something complicated that would otherwise be excruciatingly difficult, expensive, and take forever.

Wait, where are the other two supervisors?

Standing in the background on the right side, looking at materials

Dude on the left. Heh. He's probably supposed to at least pay attention when his co-worker is throwing 700 pound (318 kg) track ties around with the giant, dangerous machine.

If he is a spotter it's literally just no one comes close to this part and if you're in the middle of nowhere there's nothing to really pay attention too

Yeah, I worked on railways and they are actually supposed to pay attention and look out for oncoming trains (on this and adjacent tracks) and warn the workers.
BUT it’s a really boring thing when there is not much traffic, location looks as if no train can be expected that could be a danger and you see him help later on…
The ones working with us had a timer set some minutes before the train was to be expected, so they always knew when to be alert. But we had like two trains an hour…

Ah. So he's not supposed to be looking at the machine. He's supposed to be looking the other way. This is one of those boring, mundane, but important jobs that will probably get replaced by AI within about 10 years or so. People will debate allowing AI to replace him because of safety, but he will probably get replaced eventually.

Consider that rail ties weigh a few hundred pounds

The wooden ones are not that heavy.

Yes they are.

Old 8 ft are way over 100 lbs because they are creosote saturated and get grade of wood was a lot denser then. Some I have used for landscaping were closer to 200 lbs.
