I propose Siegel's Law: If you don't like Superman, any incarnation (even the dumb Superman Red and Blue), then you're probably a Nazi.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

hilarious that Superman is basically a retelling of the story of Jesus Christ...abandoned, sent to Earth to be good... etc., etc...

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Superman is the best American Hero.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well, Hitler didn't have RFK Jr to poison the kids back then.

The more things change, the more they stay the same…..

It's the same picture.

Well, it is their playbook or inspiration for their Heritage Foundation project 2025

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Huh I was wondering what year this wax written.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh no, its been happening for 100 years.. gotta be some slow acting poison, there.

or another attempt to degrade cultural norms in america.

* American/ Canadian comic strip, thank you very much

We need to start making more Heritage Moments

Exactly!

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh man, crazy how that headline is applicable today.

8 months ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 4

I thought that was the point of the post? >_>

8 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Why is it crazy?

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

We wanted to believe we've gotten better since then.

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

To be back there.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

New Superman movie out, and the right wing grifters are upset at how 'woke' it is.

8 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Do we have to care about what upsets them? They WANT to be upset, they want the attention, they want the audience. They find colors upsetting ... you cannot please those people, and you should never try to. It's even better when they are upset, because then you're doing the correct thing.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

This guy gets it

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Nope. And I never said we should. Was simply answering a question about why an old article was relevant today.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

These are the same idiots that saw Homelander and squealed with glee

8 months ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

There were idiots who saw fucking Stormfront as a hero, and then claimed that the Nazi reveal was a "rugpull" and "betrayal of the audience" that came out of nowhere.

They were bitching about how the writers had Stormfront "speak truth" and do/say "normal, reasonable things" to have them agree with her and then label them as Nazis for doing so, as some sort of trap.

They have zero media literacy, and zero self-awareness and self-reflection.

8 months ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Mindless followers. "I'm right-wing, she's right-wing, therefore everything she says is gospel." If one can't form an original thought for themselves, well, *someone* has to. Extremists really are as stupid as it gets.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never seen the show and I know nothing about the character stormfront other than their name, and even I can tell exactly what the writers' intention with them is.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

To add a bit more info;

She also had lightning bolt earrings, nazi-style armbands with American flags, and a belt buckle in the shape of the Nazi German Reichsadler (the eagle).

It really wasn't all that subtle.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We watched the first couple seasons, then the parallels got to be a bit much for me. She has the exact personality you'd expect, raging facist hiding under subtle word play pretending to be an upstanding citizen until some big reveal that really wasn't a big reveal if you know what youre looking for.

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

It’s a crazy fucking show, the Deep’s character and actions especially lol

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Anyone ragging on a comic accurate Superman is probably a fascist.

8 months ago | Likes 175 Dislikes 1

I mean, comics superman has gotten up to some crazy shit... and didnt always have good writing.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's probably important to distinguish people ragging on Superman media for having iffy writing, and people ragging on Superman for being the kind of man he is

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's just basic media criticism skills that these right wing reactionaries and Nazis do no possess. All comic fans can engage in the first part, only the Nazi reactionaries want to turn Superman into Homelander.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's definitely the best guy, and not a weirdo freak doing insane shit for 90 percent of his published history.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can say that about most, if not all, superheroes.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure. And its often quite funny.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is usually some weird plot device for this. Like the time he forced Jimmy and Aquaman against one another letting them get dehydrated. Turns out it was an imposter. Later stories have him under the influence of some weird kryptonite in other stories.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This movie (Rat Race) came out just before 9/11. It’s an interesting time capsule and holds up pretty well — still hilarious.

8 months ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Love the journey. The destination sucked though lol.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Look up the movie that inspired Rat Race, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. For a comedy from the early 60's, it also holds up remarkably well.

8 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Yup. Had that on VHS. Well, two VHSs. It was long.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

pissed THEY CANCELED THE LEGO BIG RACE MOVIE!!! that was gonna be kinda based of that, but lego!!!!

8 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Oh, that would’ve been super fun

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

And yet they were fine with Captain America. Go figure.

8 months ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 1

yeah... don't practice lnbreeding...

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A genetically engineered super solider certainly sounds like Nazi eugenics. Especially a fucking blond haired blue eyed one. Thank fuck eye colour and hair colour dont determine values. Captain America is awesome. America should be more like that again.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure that was deliberately done by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Cap was made to be the counter to what Simon and Kirby saw as the greatest evil of the day.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Until they find out that his actual name is "Stefan (Shlomo) Grantberg-Rogers" and his original Hero name was "Captain Eisenschild".

8 months ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

I can't tell if this is satire or a very poorly known factoid

8 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Some people really will go with anything huh?

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

A "factoid" is a falsehood told often enough that people generally believe it to be true.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A factoid is also an insignificant, trivial fact that is actually true. Isn't english great! I love auto-antonyms.

I dont.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh damn. Even the very same schtick of "mock nickname" that the turd uses.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s wild how this could come directly from @potus on Twitter right now, and the only thing that would be off is all the proper punctuation, and sentence structure.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

He might be a Nazi but he isn't a grammar Nazi.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Making up stupid nicknames for people they don't like. Huh, reminds me of someone's social media, can't quite think who it is...

8 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

It's an intentional dehumanising tactic.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Like not ending sentences with prepositions, this is a rule invented by grammarians. Invented, that is, after a long, long, extremely long time of less having been used for both countable and uncountable quantities, basically, since before the word less even entered English usage from Northumbrian leassa. These so-called hypercorrections get spread by people wanting very badly to be smart about something.

If anyone has 9min, listen to how the Superman radio show helped take down the KKK after WWII. (As told by "This American Life" / "Freakonomics") https://www.thisamericanlife.org/285/know-your-enemy/prologue

Drunk History version: https://youtu.be/-3VyPR0S0LM?si=zEV-JmWHipAjyh_a

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Too long, didn't listen: Guy joins the KKK undercover, starts feeding info to the Superman radio producers who start writing episodes where Superman fights the KKK. Kids listen to the radio show, they play Superman as the good guy and the KKK as the bad guy, dads don't want their kids to see them as the bad guy, so they quit going to KKK meetings & KKK money making schemes fall apart

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Worth noting in the radio serial they're "The Clan of the Fiery Cross" for legal reasons, however the effect was all the same. Also a graphic novel adaptation "Superman Smashes the Klan" came out in 2020 that's very good.

Yeah. Fucking sick of corporate sane-washing.

Anybody know what year this article was written?

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Nevermind, 1940. A year after the invasion of Poland but before the west got involved.

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

“Say the full name to illustrate he is a member of the scapegoat people” still tracks.

Show me one person who said “Barack Hussein Obama” on tv or in print that isn’t a fascist.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Classic dogwhistle. It's a method of saying "See, SEE?! He's a TERRORIST, it's in his name!" to the other racists

Yep.

Jerry "sealing wax".......what a burn 🙄

Nazis have always been simple and stupid

8 months ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 1

Now we know where Trump gets it from, sounds like his stupidity

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I don't get it. Is it supposed to be funny, or…

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From the Vanity Fair article linked earlier: “… ridiculed his name again, calling him “Jerry Siegallack,” the German term for “sealing wax.” (The reason the Nazis may have found that clever have been lost to time.)” 💀💀💀

IDENTICAL to Trump’s “clever” nicknames like George Slopadopolus and Gavin Newscum. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_nicknames_used_by_Donald_Trump

8 months ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Comparing Trump to nazis is a bit insulting, even for nazis.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"a Colorado beetle"?

8 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I literally explained that earlier.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 21

You did, but who reads the entire thread of comments?

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A Colorado potato beetle is a major pest that affects potato and other agricultural plants and can cause a lot of damage by completely defoliating a plant. It is native to North America and was first reported in Germany in 1877, linked to installation of US military bases in Europe after WWI.

8 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

How can a beetle reported in 1877 be linked to anything after WW1, which did not end until 1918?

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

First reported, not only reported.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

No it says, first reported in 1877, linked to US bases in Europe. The years dont line up here

More article yet: https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/story/superman-backlash

8 months ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 3

“… Conway also took a personal swipe at Superman star David Corenswet: “Guess he didn’t change it to a better stage name.” (The actor’s surname originates from his Russian Jewish roots.)”

It’s almost like the anti-antisemetic cries defending Israel are performative!

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And to explain the "he's a Colorado Beetle!" insult, German propaganda lore, both fascist and communist, had it that America was crop dusting Germany with the dreaded Colorado Beetle (Kartoffelkaefer) to destroy the potato harvest and cause widespread shortages and famine.

8 months ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

To be fair that does sound like something America would do.

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure, I saw the same accusations in Czech newspapers during the USSR era. Stalin really was just Hitler with a thicker mustache.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

He really wasn't. I'm not going to defend Stalin, but a lot of "Stalin/USSR bad" type information makes it to us heavily filtered through a propaganda machine designed to discredit any alternative to our political/economic systems.
