This shit is SO WIZARD!

Jul 8, 2019 1:11 AM

This is Ewan Dobson. I think he is incredible and I wanted to share. I believe he deserves more love. So, if you enjoy acoustic guitar, I highly recommend giving him a listen. This one is called “Time 2” It’s awesome but it’s all about the hat.

He is a pretty unique dude. This is ”Level 5” Feels like we’re going on a quest!

“Blood & Ice” This track really shows off a lot of his talent.

This is “Motion Potion” I think it’s my favorite, I cannot help but smile when I hear it.

FP edit: Wow, I expected this to get buried in usersub, I guess I should have posted sauce...my bad. First 4 links are the tracks featured here - plus 1. Then links to his YT channels, LOTS more amazing stuff there. If you like this, check out the rest. His 12 string renditions of these songs are amazing too.

Man, it's been a LONG time since I saw anybody use "wizard" as an adjective.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck yeah! Loves me some Dobson! His tuning is cool. If you’re into this, check out Tommy Emmanuel too. Find “Initiation”. I might post it.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hell yes! Saw Tommy play at the El Capitan a couple years ago.

Motion Potion makes me feel he was really influenced by Leo Kottke. Sounds good.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My brain can’t understand how he doesn’t this.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Fuck me and my fingers and my poor sleep. How he does this*

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The first one is old enough to go into retirement, never the less, Ewan Dobson is amazing.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Finally was able to listen.....sharp.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That lampshade plays a mean guitar.

6 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

I remember watching when he was just a couple videos....kudos

6 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Now he's a real person! Crazy how nature do that!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So wizard? Is that what we’re saying these days?

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

as in, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They were saying it in 1953 when lord of the flies was written. It isn't new, but it may be back. Or maybe OP is 80 years old.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But I still dont know what YEET means!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only if you want to be truly chromed.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

My favorites from him are time 2, machinery and my nightmare. Hadn't heard the last one you posted though. Pretty great.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A personal favorite of mine is "I know your pain". Listened to it on repeat back in 2011 and wondered how someone could be that good.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Checkout his cover of Leo Kottke’s ‘Vaseline Machine Gun’. He does a great job!! Bloody talented dude!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck yeah! 12 string! Give Ewan MORE STRIIIIIINGS!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Candyrat records almost exclusively signs artists like this, but none are quite like this guy. Check out their YouTube page.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holy crap. I can only imagine what he would be capable of with a 12 string.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

he does that too

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably the same things but he wouldn't need as many effects

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh....yeah.. He’s AWESOME on 12 strings.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thats pretty awesome

6 years ago | Likes 193 Dislikes 0

Holy shit I forgot about him for 12 years!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You didn’t forget, you just haven’t remembered.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

your pretty

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

"Motion potion" reminds me of the banjo duel of Monkey Island 3.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of Preston Reed and Leo Kottke (especially on the last tune). Impressive.

6 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

I was thinking Justin King.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Andy McKee :)

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

First one sounds a lot like buckethead

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A little bitta Mike Dawes too.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't forget John Fahey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReW9uUYm-DA

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He covers “Vaseline Machine Gun” too. Kottke was definitely a big influence.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

My dad was blessed to have played a few sessions with Chet Atkins. Albeit, he was a bluegrass player, dad was taken with his technique.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kottke is a legend. A must for anyone remotely interested in acoustic guitar.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

His Facebook posts were weird. I couldn't understand if he was an angry conservative or just angry.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember I was in a Facebook group he made called "legend of the brown goat" or something where he would post weird songs

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He would also go over how much he hated women and how they were selfish gold diggers. He's a very creative and intelligent person

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But he was definitely suffering from some sort of mental issue. Still love the guy tho

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea. I was in his fb friends group. He saw a song a covered of him and liked it. I prefer his creative output to his opinions by a long-shot

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you for introducing me to this

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Estas Tonne is another one of my favorites. Cuban Rhapsody and Song of the Golden Dragon are my favorites.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also yes

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I remember when "Drifting" first came out and blew up on YT......I just looked at it again.....12 years ago, DDaaaaaammnn I've gotten old.

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

I really liked his Song For My Father. Really well-played, very beautiful

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh god. I remember that. And Erik Mongrain's AirTap at the dawn of YouTube in 2006. Fuck, why am I so old?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you like him, check out Trace Bundy, saw him live in 2005. Dueling Ninjas is amazing. Capo Stew is also amazing.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dude Capo Stew, wtf did I just watch. That’s unworldly.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Any of the Candy Rats are absically an auto recommend.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's the finest fingering I've ever seen.

A great rendition of a classic tune by a great picker with good humor to boot! Enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyWQy7ovGxM

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

expected alan gogoll, nice

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

https://youtu.be/nY7GnAq6Znw check this one out..

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup, that's a good one, but pretty common technique. Those harmonics from Alan are out of this world, speaking as a guitarist.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The first track reminds me of Buckethead a little. Anyone else getting that?

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

He says, in one of his interviews that Buckethead inspired this song, so good! :)

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Love me some Buckethead.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sounds like a ton of people. everyone in the mid 2000s was using delay like this.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

True, I suppose.. But this song was the one I was thinking of when I heard it https://youtu.be/dBsBKMtnsIA

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We've been using delay like this since it was invented, and still do. Definitely not a 2000s thing. :)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Big sur moon!!!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks, mate. Would’ve taken me about 306 albums to get to that one.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Colma is such a good album, it's one of my absolute favorites

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’d say my personal favourite albums are Kaleidoscalp and Acoustic Shards. Also, his stuff with C2B3 is mind blowing.
