Wow Guys...

So a month ago I got out of the hospital after spending over a year in-patient for a suicide attempt. I was suffering from severe depression and physical ailments that I just couldn’t handle anymore. My family and I even went so far as to seek treatment in Germany for chronic Lyme that was giving me seizures and caused me to lose my job as a dog walker and trainer. I lost my job, my house, my best friend, and then my fiancé left me while I was in the hospital. It was so much to bare but I’m glad I made it through.

This was my hospital room for over a year. Clearly I wasn’t doing well thus not really keeping the place tidy. By the time I left though, my room was spotless.

This is my service dog Matilda (I live in a group home now where I’m not allowed to be with her so she lives with my dad and I see her on weekends. Once I get an apartment she and my cats will be back with me).

Anyway, during Christmas last year I was very lonely and I decided to reach out to my friends at Imgur for help. I couldn’t believe the warm reception and support from this community...

The letters began to arrive. Over 80 of them.

So many wonderful notes, letters, and postcards. Even stickers, socks, candy, stuffed animals, etc.

Words can’t describe how much healing this has done for me (maybe even more so than the treatment I got).

In the month since I’ve been out, I’ve started dating, driving, jobhunting, helping family, and just staying busy and putting meaning into my life.

Someone asked me if I am still receiving letters and I am. I send postcards in return whenever I can. I like spreading the love too!
