She mispronounced gouging as “gauging” and Chris Cuomo is having a fit. Fuck that guy. Media trying as hard as possible to keep Trump in play. REGISTER AND VOTE BLUE UP AND DOWN THE BALLOT!

I love idiots thinking inflation is Biden's fault, corporations raised prices because they assumed the voters would be dumb and blame the president while they price gauge. I remember, I absolutely will remember the companies who raised prices in an attempt to get a literal fraud back in the Whitehouse. Most of our CEOs right now are terrible business people and most companies would run better without one at all.

There is no ethical way to become a billionaire.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

voting is nice and all, but remember that there are billionaires asking Harris to “bend the knee” to allow them to run unchecked:

https://www.commondreams.org/news/reid-hoffman-kamala-harris

I'm not saying to not vote her, but just because you do and she wins doesn't mean the job's over. after that, go after those fucking ghouls who want nothing but to turn you into serfs.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's insanity reading these comments and seeing how everyone is sucking one cock blue or one cock red o but they are still both the cock of corporations and ridiculous wealth. Choosing the lesser of two evils is not a fair democracy. Democracy has failed it needs a reset. Bring on WW3 already let's hit the reset button. Yes, I know I'm fucked for saying so but things will get worse before they get better. Sadly they gotta get way worse.. Canada is no different here either. We are fucked too.

And they scream communism. Actually the corporate and advertising bots scream communism and the repeat it bc whatever that is it’s bad.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok but please use tags. I don't come here for politics.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

What's stopping her, or Biden from doing it now? Vote for whatever you want, I am not even American. I just find it funny regardless of country, when someone goes for reelection and starts promising stuff.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

She's had 4 years to stop that...

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 26

She's currently VP, so I will guess you mean the Biden Administration and not just Harris specifically. Also, they have been trying but the Republicans have blocked the attempts. Let's vote Republicans out of office and get some good things accomplished!

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Competition should stop companies from price gouging. It’s an important role of the government to assure strong competition in all areas. Currently, we are far, far too lax in prosecuting illegal anticompetitive actions.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The problem we have is that EVERYBODY has joined in on the price gouging, and it's become a domino effect. There were legit supply level issues in the beginning that caused an increased in costs, and led to companies raising consumer pricing, but then even when most of the supply issues/costs leveled out, these suppliers didn't want the gravy train to stop, so they'd inch up prices a bit more, and companies would then add that and more to consumer prices. The thing that really fucked us

Someone go back in time, then, and tell Trump not to spend that extra $4 tillion in 2020 that he spent right before prices skyrocketed.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

"According to a January 2024 report from the Groundwork Collaborative, corporate profits were the main driver of inflation in the United States in 2023, accounting for more than half of price increases:

53% of inflation in 2023

From April to September 2023, corporate profits drove 53% of inflation, up from 11% in the 40 years before the pandemic

More than one-third of inflation since the pandemic

Corporate profits have driven more than one-third of inflation since the start "

I'm voting for Harris in November but can we please not put politicians on pedestals?

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 10

This is not putting anybody on a pedestal. It's making the point that Kamala actually has made noise about doing something about the corporate price gouging that Americans have suffered from, all while Trump and co only ever talk about how horrible inflation is without ever actually saying how they'll make things better for Americans. Not to say that I think Kamala could really do much here, but she's at least talking about solutions and doing something.

So did Biden.

Can it not be simply because she's a politician and a former cop?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nothing wrong with being a politician. Also, she was not a cop, she was a prosecutor. Warning for people: anybody calling her a 'cop' is pushing a dishonest agenda.

Because I'd rather see her in office than the other guy. I wish there were more than two parties in this country.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why do I have to wait until next year for that to happen? Aren't you in office now? Haven't you been in office the past 3+ years while this happened?

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 75

Why don't you tell us what you think the Vice President's job duties are?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Republican controlled house.

2 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 10

Why yes. Yes, they are in office now. Yes, the democrats have tried to pass SEVERAL bills. Guess who’s blocked them all? Republicans. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Biden is doing what he can with what he's given. Kamala is promising to do more because she's hoping Dems get majority in Congress. https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/05/24/icymi-target-walmart-and-other-grocery-chains-heed-president-bidens-call-to-lower-prices/

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 6

Republicans block it. That's why the Dems need a super majority in both houses so they can fix the evil shit the Republicans have done

2 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 8

What laws are you expecting the VP to pass on their own, exactly?

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

The VP doesn't have any Constitutional duties apart from breaking ties in the Senate, and waiting for the POTUS to be incapacitated.

Why do you think prices can come down next year? Inflation is here to stay.

Everyone knows MAGAts would rather complain than be given real solutions

2 years ago | Likes 204 Dislikes 11

Complain about Democrats. They wont complain about Republicans over the same things, even when they're frequently the actual culprit. They just desperately want to get power so they can oppress the people they want to oppress, and they'll say anything they need to achieve it.

Was JUST having a conversation with one about this and he said restrictions on price gouging is Marxism and anti American. Yet he bitches about the price of everything.

Then its no longer a free market, its socialism if gov controls prices.... Btw that wont lower prices, it will prevent a store charging 20 dollars for water after a hurricane

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 42

Don't threaten me with a good time. I don't care about a market being free. I don't even believe money should determine our position in society. Don't get me wrong it was a stellar 15th century innovation to gradually put less weight on which hoohaa you popped out of, but imo it's still based on the wrong assumption that we should have a system that orders us in classes at all. So no price control doesn't really scare me.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is such a thing as government regulation in capitalism. That is not socialism.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

It never was, and that's a good thing.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Wait. You believe no government regulation = free market and any government regulation = socialism? You are not a serious person.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's no such thing as a "Free Market." Every market has rules and regulations. Democrats just want to make the rules favor the consumer more than the corporations. And unless you specifically are a billionaire, then they are trying to help YOU.

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Price caps have, in every instance they've been installed large-scale, resulted in the continuous downgrade of the very thing they were put in place to "protect." They can probably work in specific instances where effects are not far-reaching. This would not be one such instance.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

Capitalism, in every instance large-scale, has resulted in the continuous downgrade of the very thing it was meant to "produce". See? I can make bold assertions without sources as well.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

That is patently false.

The phone or computer you are typing your dumbass reply on is the very proof.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

And the Internet has been on a steady downward spiral for years now, qed.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Subway has been simultaneously raising prices and lowering ingredient quality without price caps. You can't scare me with "corp's will just make things shittier" when they're already making things shittier. At least this will stop the price creep during the enshittification.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Price caps will lead to the destruction of the thing. Is raising prices and lower quality better or worse than simply getting nothing at all?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

If it can't exist without scamming people, then it doesn't deserve to exist.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Bullshit

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you think a politician is going to stop corporate profits, you haven't been living in America. All of them are backed by various corporations whether they're Democrats or Republicans. This is some nonsensical BS. Vote for whoever you want, but just make sure you know who their biggest donors are.

2 years ago | Likes 227 Dislikes 136

I was very disappointed with the plan after having high hopes. I think within a few months big business will have shifted to exploit in a new way. The whole give people 25k for a down payment seems like a big flashing sign for real estate companies to exploit new people for guaranteed gov money. Biden may be old but I felt way better about his economic ideas.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Harris is in a unique situation though. She was pushed in before corporate could really negotiate with her on anything. They just assumed she'd take over for Biden. They're pissed she chose Tim Walz as VP. They don't like her but they'd rather support her than Trump becsuse he's just that volatile for them.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Both sides both sides both sides" warrblegarble. Great Russian talking points!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1. Unless they spend 44 billion dollars on a site to push propaganda for a specific party, it's basically impossible to know who is funding a candidate if they don't want it to be public. 2. Yes, democrats have donors, but only one party is diving head first into fascism so their donors don't have to pay taxes, have oversight, or treat their workers fairly. 3. Only the republican party has capitulated to special interests at every turn and base their policies on an "oligarch-first" platform.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This "both sides" BS that is actively harmful. Democrats have tried to pass measures to lower prices, they were opposed at every turn by Republicans, regardless of the popularity of the measure.

2 years ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 11

and if the measure somehow passed... Republicans would turn around and say they helped it.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Cant believe I'm still seeing this sort of idiotic 'both sides' crap upvoted on here. Shit like this is why Dems never have the power to make bigger changes, because ignorant cynical people like this try and discourage people from wanting to support Democrats.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The both sides argument is always used by fools wanting to justify selfishness without feeling moral repercussions. Fuck you.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Last time I checked a Democrat in congress introduced a bill for income caps on themselves and it was almost unanimously shot down by the Republicans.

I would rather vote for a Democrat who is right twice a day rather than a republican who is right even once. Don't start with this "both sides" conservative propaganda bullshit, If a company wants a liberal policy it will donate, if the politician decides to actively pursue something a donator asked of them its not like they will do a full 180 and go fully opposite to their campaign policies. At worst they just don't actively pursue their campaign policies. 1/?

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Attempting to state that the policies don't matter because they both take donations lacks any of the nuance. 2/2

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Lina Khan is the closest we will get. Break up the monopolies and that will keep prices down.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Oh you sweet summer child.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Competition keeps prices down for consumers, thats a fact. If you try price control type methods then you'll end up with shortages and only a very few ppl will benefit (similar to panic shortages before/after a hurricane); rent control has shown this happen too.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Allow me to use this picture to demonstrate. They're not coincident, neither really hits the mark, but one is considerably closer to the mark than the other.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Please dont speak for anybody but yourself. And in reality, Dems are much closer to your 'where you'd like to be' than you think anyways. Vast majority support much of what people would call 'progressive' policy, but they need bigger majorities to actually pass any of this shit. There isn't this huge divide between moderates and progressives like most think. And only a small percent are actual 'conservative' Democrats.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

i get the idea... but feel like "Republicans" should be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay further out. Like: "where we'd like to be" "common sense" "democrats" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "space nazis" "republicans" "normal nazis" "the guy who killed Hitler" "literally Hitler".

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ok but it's more four-dimensional than that. [Insert Crazy Ex-Girlfriend clip saying "it's more nuanced than that."]

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They did cap insulin price significantly.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Dems do a whole bunch to reign in corporations. They are literally the pro-regulation party. The pro-tax party. The pro-antitrust party. The pro-union party. People just dont seem to understand that Dems cant actually DO more unless we give them stronger majorities. Nor do Dems have the power to just magically wave away Citizens United. People need to actually show up and support Dems if they ever want to progress.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

need to reverse citizens united through congress, but the odds of politicians codifying a bill that gets them less campaign money is unlikely.

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 3

Dems would largely be fine with getting less campaign money if Republicans had the same avenues cut off, so it was still equal game. I mean, Obama talked about wanting this quite regularly. And Citizens United is not something Congress can overrule. It's not like a state's rights thing or anything. CU was literally a 'check' on Congress in the first place. We need a liberal SC. That's the only way this will change. So it's here to stay a good while.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's why we should elect Congresspersons via the selective service system.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The bill needs to add public funding of campaigns, and institute a financial cap nationwide to level the playing field.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This would be in contravention of Citizens United, so would be overturned by the SC. It is very hard to do any kind of 'money in politics' changes without getting Citizens United thrown out, and that will require a liberal SC. Something we might have potentially been looking at soon here if people actually voted for Hillary instead of trashing on her. But nope, we likely still have at least another decade of a conservative SC, and much, much longer if Trump wins.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not a video game where you just press X to solve the world's problems. One side is taking efforts to make things better, while the other is blocking everything useful while it tries to create a theocracy. The entire "both sides are bad" narrative was invented to help the latter. https://prospect.org/health/2024-01-05-public-pharmas-biggest-barrier/

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Republicans are definitely worse.

after a certain networth you aren't really participating in normal people shit anymore. I mean to say I don't care if they dems or repubs we need to do away with the ultra rich.

in govt* but also in general

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

So?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So you have two choices and one is worse. Put on your thinking cap and decide what would be the smartest thing to do come voting time.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does that somehow change what the comment was about? Or is it just a "can't criticize our glorious saviors of democracy" kneejerk?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What was the comment "about"?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Democrats are actively supporting a genocide and pushing us towards ww3 by defending them. Republicans being bad and in many ways worse doesn't absolve the Democrats. I will never support a party that supports genocide.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 56

Oh yes, they're so much worse than the Republicans who just want to spend all our tax dollars blowing up ALL the brown people on earth. And as for the evangelicals, they'd just as soon genocide the WHOLE Middle East and turn it into a Jesus theme park. Be fucking for real, dude.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

How about you read what I wrote next time. I specifically said Republicans are worse in many ways.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

Is that why all the worst members of the republican party are wearing Isreali flag pins? The Republicans who invited Netanyahoooo to speak?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What Crack are you smoking? What are you even talking about?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Supplying weapons to Israel who keeps ratcheting up tensions in the middle east, surely you aren't completely ignorant

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

Oh, you mean the thing that Republicans want to consistently do way more than Democrats. I don't like the democrats "general" tone toward it either, but to even imply that it's exclusive to them or that's a reason not to vote for them when the only other choice further reinforces the problem is completely asinine. Everybody wants something out of politics, but you want a magical leprechaun that can make everything good happen with no bad.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Then you'll never support a party. I get that you are angry, but you aren't participating in the electoral system with that view point.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm perfectly fine not participating in an electoral system that determines which pro genocide candidate wins. Seems the system is the problem

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

So you are not standing against genocide. You are just laying down while it happens. I'm not sure how you can feel morally superior to others, as evidenced by your comments, but it feels like you are overwhelmed by the injustice and are freezing as part of your fight/flight/freeze response

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Republicans want worse on those same subjects. Imagine you are in a hallway, two bullies on either side. One who will shove you about, and one with a baseball bat with nails. If you don't choose (don't vote), whomever gets to you first gets to you first. Would you choose getting shoved (democrats), being beaten with a spiked baseball bat (republicans), or letting fate choose your suffering for your "moral high ground" that you didn't choose either suffering?

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

Must be nice to boil down such a complex issue to an absurd fake situation and mock someone who won't vote for supporting a literal genocide as being on a high horse. Intellectually lazy but guilt free I guess.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 30

Intellectually lazy bu5 guilt free? You're talking about yourself aren't you.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Alright, let's set aside the analogy and look at the situation directly--

By not supporting Democrats (who yes, support the Palestinian genocide being waged by Israel), you're helping the Republicans. Republicans support that same genocide more strongly, and some dozen others that the Democrats oppose.

It's almost like the classic trolley problem-- except that by choosing to run over more people instead of those you care about, the people you care about get run over twice.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Giving up voting makes you even more morally accountable for everything bad your country does, because you are not participating in the democratic process to improve the situation. Doing nothing doesn't make you a hero.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I fully acknowledge that the situation in Israel is fucked. But there's no future where the Republican nominee is going to make this better.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

And you think the republicans would do any different?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don't, which is why I'm not voting for them.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Well someone doesn't understand their trolley problem ethics...
