EA has done it again. But this time even worse.

Dec 2, 2017 1:08 PM

The whole internet was abuzz this month about the microtransaction gambling in EA’s Battlefront II. It was one of the worst systems ever seen in a full priced game. One would think it couldn’t get any worse. But one would be wrong. The newly released beta test of EA’s UFC 3 game has shown a similar lootbox gambling system. One that also affect the gameplay. UFCs lootboxes contain upgraded moves and fighters that give paying players clear advantages. The most egregious is the fact that you can get an upgraded jab (just a punch, literally the most straightforward move) which simply allows you to just punch harder.

Tl:dr EA IS DOING BATTLEFRONT II MICRONTRANSACTIONS AGAIN, BUT IN UFC NOW

i thought about buying EA stock but literally it seems like they want to kill themselves off at this point.

See, i didn't care about star wars. I wanted this. Fucking EA. I hate them more than I hated EA a month ago, and that was a lot!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is why people need to stop buying their games outright, not just temporarily, even after the fiasco of SWBF2, they don't care.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

i don't even game why am i luking at this powst?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Fuuuuuuck not UFC

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Sir we lost massive money with our last cashgrab maybe we should try to..." "NOTHING VENTURED NOTHING GAINED DO IT AGAIN"

Not only that, Bisping is not that cut anymore!

I've been told the Madden series also does this. Guess sports nerd aren't as loud as Star Wars nerds.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be honest tho i reckon that the UFC probably included the idea to do microtrans for better basic moves... they've whored fighters for yrs

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They have no plans to stop, either. The only thing that matters to them is money, as should be expected from a corporation.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

For anything to change, people would need to boycott their products so badly as to cause financial distress - and that will never happen

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just buy something like tekken instead. Way better

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

That's the type of shit Dana White would be on board with.

AKA Dana Shite

need points to send msg to my secretsanta recipient, pls upvote the comment

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It's simple, we just stop buying their products.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

These features have been around on fifa ultimate team for years it's only just starting to seep into other games.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's NOT that simple though. 7 billion people on Earth. Theres going to be people that dont give a fuck and is going to buy the shit anyways

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We could maybe get enough people to stop buying their games for them to see it's no longer worth making them this way.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They have been doing this in Madden Ultimate Team for years and no one has said shit.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Still isn't as bad as fifa ultimate team.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ea earn so much money on this, that even if they lose hakf of player base, they still earn way more than not continue with this system.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There is ALWAYS people that are willing to pay for advantages. Why do you belive cheaters are still a thing?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I'll just keep playing Mortal Kombat on my SNES. Off the grid.

8 years ago | Likes 174 Dislikes 2

Can I come??

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I got a spare controller and need a partner for Turtles In Time.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Get over here!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'll never forget the uppercut, punch spam. My friends would toss their controllers at the tv. Good times.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow, this guy took Roy off the grid!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You should get some of them sequels too

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kintaro in MK2 was an absolute Cunt.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Goro in MK1 was my first rage quit.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

* in Ultimate Team mode only.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

EA is going to keep doing what they do. They’ve been releasing incomplete and broken Sims 4 packs since release. They give you something...

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

“Free” (toddlers) then make you pay $10+ for functionality that should be included. They are not going to stop.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Isnt Sims 4 technically a $500 game with all the expansions and dlc or whatever?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just about. The problem is that EA knows people will pay it. Just like any other company. It’s shitty and shady but consumers are the...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Problem. I’d be willing to bet there’s 3 willing purchasers for every 1 who complains. The younger generations tend to be impatient and...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Willing to pay more to get it now. Unless that changes, companies like EA will not. It’s a vicious cycle.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yo if y’all would read the article this is only on the single player ultimate mode and not multiplayer. I hate ea as much as the next guy

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 5

for now

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

But I hate misinformation more.

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

This is arguably worse. That means they're literally selling power in a single player game. They are selling you cheat codes.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Isn't that pretty oldschool? Weren't there cheat codes sold in guidebooks?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

For Game genie/shark yeah, but you could just open the books in the store and copy them down. Later on, the internet (gamewinners.com) 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

had all that information. Or, there were cheats that didn't require that stuff that you could get for free. They're _selling_ easy mode. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The problem is, Battlefront 2 was one of the most beloved games of peoples childhoods.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven't bought it yet, but also, according to my friend, it's really fun.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

And down the drain you go, for saying something good about EA's BF2.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol, good thing I only said something potentially good about it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would have hated it less if they called it Star Wars Battlefield 2.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit, if it's Star Wars Battlefield 1 I'll be really happy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have 2 options. Yell at EA again, or buy better fighting games, like Skullgirls, KOF, or Tekken.

8 years ago | Likes 123 Dislikes 21

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or Them's Fightin' Herds, which runs on Skullgirls' Z-Engine

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I still have the alpha of that game when it was mlp. Barely works though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's really smooth and polished now and has won a couple industry awards iirc

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Skullgirls is my shit! The only fighting game I've dedicated time to getting good at.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Skullgirls is so fucking goooooooooooooooood.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Por que no los dos?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One more publicity stunt and huge stock price plummets oughta do it :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or 3rd option, continue ignoring EA

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But what if I don't want fantasy games? Sometimes I don't feel like rolling myself and would rather do it in a game.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Mortal Kombat?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, those Netherrealms folks are real good

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not a fan of anime style fighting. I enjoy real sports and am a fan of real ufc fighters. You missed the point completely.

8 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 16

Then you keep telling EA to stop being shitheads. I do like the way the UFC games were handled initially, but lootboxes really fuck it up.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

He was too busy feeling superior over what video games he plays.

8 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 19

HEY DICK

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

I doubt that. There's just not a whole lot of realistic fighting games like the UFC games, unfortunately.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 12

To the surprise of literally no one

8 years ago | Likes 2563 Dislikes 5

Haha do people think EA only develops, or oversees the development of one game at a time? Spoiler... there will be more of this coming.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It surprised me that you could make an even more p2w fullpriced game

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This comment is important! This new trend is game changing, to say the least

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

love that EA has been doing it for years and people are only just now noticing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think this comment adds nothing. The point they're making is to not let up on EA.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

EA like the modern GOP. Its unpopular, its kinda fucked, it enriches a select group but fuck it do it anyway bc blowback will be temporary

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

a few thousand more accurately. The rest few millions dont care

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except that guy over there that just crawled out from under a rock after being there for ten years.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

EA its in the game.. owait.. its in the wallet?? WTF

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, no, no. EA, The game is in the paid DLC.

Paying players are a bundle of sticks?

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

Whoa ima stop you right there, I am what would be categorized as a whale and I HATE pay-to-win shit. In fact, I hate loot boxes in general.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What I like to buy is cosmetics and fun stuff like that.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Totally agree with you. As long as it is cosmetic and doesn't provide an advantage, I'm all for it. But EA is on some straight BULLSHIT!!!!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trying to make casual gamers into whales is not right.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I play ultimate team, max level and great moves/perks across the board. Never spent a dollar, plus you are rewarded pretty well for playing/

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

/So I don't have a huge problem when people just buy good characters. People who do that are usually bad at the game anyway so it evens out

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Game is in BETA, they haven't even turned on purchases yet. Sooooo, what are you talking about exactly?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

UFC 2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

You just went full retard, good job!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

YOU GUYS I WAS TALKING ABOUT UFC 2 THERE ARE ALREADY 2 EA UFC GAMES

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel bad for all the poor people

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

In the single player ultimate mode not multiplayer. It’s still greedy and should be boycotted.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 6

http://m.ign.com/articles/2017/12/01/ufc-3s-beta-microtransactions-detailed it is in multiplayer though it pairs you with players with 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Similar stats. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There’s loot boxes in multiplayer but I think they’re only like skins or characters. Ultimate mode is where you’re matched with similar stat

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Our matchmaking logic takes fighter attributes, moves, boosts, and perks into account and prioritizes matching players 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i have no idea why you are downvoted if that's true

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Because the truth doesn’t fit into the mob mentality attitude. You’re either on the bandwagon or you’re not I guess.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

but you WERE on the bandwagon

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That’s what I thought

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Its in multiplayer. Or at least sounds like it, they say matchmaking consideres your perks/moves/boosts into account as well as skill.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but I feel like if someone wants to pay tons of money just to be better solo, then why not let them? It affects no one negatively.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Poor people don't like it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Ya see, with lootboxes they made it so that you have NO IDEA what you're gonna get. If it was known what was gonna be had, sure, whatever.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Imagine if grocers did that, you have to keep handing them money and they give you random items so you keep paying to get what you want.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So someone with 1000 hours can be defeated by a person with 1 hour and 1000$ in the game? That's BS.

8 years ago | Likes 203 Dislikes 2

Yoink!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*Sigh* SOOOO the intent is to provide the players with a sense of pride and accomplishment ... /sarcasm

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Joke's on you, nobody will want to play for NEARLY that long.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Definitely reeks of bull. Maybe with all the hate they're getting EA may be in trouble as a company at some point. Doesn't seem likely tho.

8 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 1

The British just released a statement on the matter of lootboxes. EA is going to have to do something before the investors start selling.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately theres the numbskulls that buy the game and pay the money that ruin it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I honestly don't know where they're getting money from now. I think it's just the other companies that buy many copies to sell cheaper

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Apparently, the majority of their money comes from FIFA microtransactions. That's the only reason they're in business, or so I've been told.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's sooo many airheads that still buy their games. My co-workers reasoning for battlefront was the free DLC maps...

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I think the microtransactions make 'em boatloads of money to continue the cycle.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Their stock is down 8% so far

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

They're still up for the year though

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well it's Christmas dude...of course the are. That's nothing new at all. Are they better than last xmas? Is their year over year increasing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It gives them a chance to buyback and that's not good for us.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It's buy low and sell high. Remember this please...you ideally wish to buy at the lowest...EA keeps having negative press...stock keeps

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Just dont buy EA games. Simple as that. Atleast till they change their model.

8 years ago | Likes 1473 Dislikes 7

Yeah, Ive never felt like Im missing out by not buying from EA.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

i would just settle for Disney taking Star Wars away from them

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don’t even have to go that far. If people just stopped buying the loot boxes, they’d stop putting them in games.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or torrent everything

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And slowly positive reinforce you over a period of 5 years to then feed you with shit aigain until you snap out of it, again.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

or you can support small devs doing passion projects

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You'd think the vocal minority would have learned this by now, but they seem to be a little slow on the uptake.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No, you don't buy EA games till they go out of business and sell their IPs to developers who actually care.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

The problem is, not enough people quit buying their products. For every 10 people that don't buy it 10 people do it seems.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably more like 100

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was being generous but yes, you're probably right.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You would think losing 3 billion in stock price would have changed their minds. Guess not. Sauce in 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Of course not. The extra profit they make on these micro transaction over the life time of a game is outrageous. That's why they wont stop

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How about ever? I haven't gotten an EA game in a long time, haven't gone into withdrawl!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish madden wasnt EA. Only game ive got from them other than the first BF. And i dont play ult team so no money other than game cost.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same here when I buy the NHL games. Who cares about hut or mut. Be a pro and franchise/GM mode is where its at.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love NHL but haven't bought them in YEARS because fuck EA

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have an unhealthy obsession with hockey. Never purchased anything besides the game and I only buy the 60 dollar version.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not even then. Our endgame should be the liquidation of EA as an example to the other big publishers.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like some EA games.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I'm kinda stoked for anthem, not gonna lie.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thing is, EA makes half their money on FIFA releases. So until people stop buying FIFA... yeah, I know, THAT's gonna happen, right?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I purchased Sims 4, I am happy with my purchase

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's a pretty small base game considering the price. If it was more like Sim 3 but with the new features I'd have been ok with it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It has less than sims 3. Best case scenario on par with it. I would say not equal but equivalent. However, sims 3 was cumbersome (1)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then again, it is sims. Expansions are good and fun; stuff packs are expensive and unnecessary. (3)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a nice computer and I used to wait in loading screens more than playing. This guy runs like olive oil (2)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was excited for sims. Just wanted the Christmas pack. 30.00. Found out I have to download mods to get simple items. Make a full game.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

the christmas pack is free??

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sims is the only EA game I care about. I paid for the game, but the dlc? Nah son. Mods.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Torrent it all

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean if you want The Sims there are ways to get that game...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*pulls CD out of trench coat*

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not just EA. These type of "games" exist on mobile since at least 10 years. I call all of them "pay2win" games. Gambling 4 kids&adults.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The difference is those mobile games are always free. This is a full priced game at $60.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

You're correct about that. There's still that difference.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even if all of you on this thread and on reddit stopped buying their games they will still stand to make a huge profit off of everyone else

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You forget how big the world is. Millions will still buy the game the only way to make change is to have your voice heard. Not buying does

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

nothing for them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nah not even if they change their model, they've shown repeatedly they're willing to screw over their customers

8 years ago | Likes 250 Dislikes 4

Player first! https://youtu.be/_BeVmHbMqAA

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every company is trying to screw over their customers, thats the entire point of capitalism.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also remember that they're frequently screwing over their dev teams too. From what I've heard, BF2 is actually a good *game*, shackled 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

to an egregious and exploitative micro-transaction model.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I understand ... it's about revenge, yes?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

more about saying no to letting large corporations rape your wallet but sure revenge can work too

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or simply recognising that EA cannot be trusted and would revert as soon as the heat died down. There are other games

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's about sending a message.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They need to be destroyed to make room for better companies who can look at the dessicated corpse of EA as a lesson

8 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

Hang them up by their entrails and parade them through the city!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have destroyes too many developers for money. Entire franchises left to rot, the meme with the bodies piled in the ditch. It must stop.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Good company = mystery. Any company will fuck up if you throw money at whatever they do- which people will. Why? Marketing > quality.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which is why the consumer base needs to set a precedent with EA and make them an eg

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's what Rome did to Carthage.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely. Burn them down, poison the well and salt the earth, so that none dare follow in their path.

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Don't forget to kill the employees and all their offspring.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Nah,let the employees live They work for them but they don't choose to make it a pay to win

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Up until the third generation, North Korean style.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The thing is that a huge portion of EAs demographic are casual gamers who haven't even heard of this whole discussion.

8 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 2

Not a casual gamer, I just have an unhealthy obsession with hockey and need the nhl games. EA had the exclusive rights unfortunately.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're also the kind of people who pay for microtransactions

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yup, just had to explain to my friend and his wife why they shouldn't buy the new battlefront, even though she's a huge star wars nerd.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And from the reaction I got, they still might...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Who cares if they want to buy it Jesus, let them one sale isn’t going to change anything.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Stop being a cancer and letting these tactics exist.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yeah I don't even blame her. Not too often that you get a good polished star wars game.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Shhhh, last person I saw hinting at buying battlefront was never seen again around here.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that's why we need to force feed these filthy casuals with awesome games that are not from EA

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

If you like madden and fifa?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If people think EA has a monopoly on sports games, I have a copy of Backyard Football that begs to differ. ;)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I worked at an EB Games back when 2k made a college football and basketball game if I remember correctly. The game mechanics were 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And getting caught in the rain...

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

this made my day

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

... ... ... Mario Strikers: Charged Football... ...?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Then you're braindead, buy it once and stop paying for the game over and over.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Why am i brain dead for buying something i like? You only buy things you dont like?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So guessing you bought call if duty finest hour and then proceeded to not buy any other call of duty?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
