2 years and 11 days ago I was attacked by a dog and what I thought was my perfect life fell apart. I know there’s a no selfie rule but I don’t expect this to go anywhere anyway, so I don’t really care.

My nose was the worst bit of it. Two holes all the way through my nose, I could see through both my nostrils before they stitched me up, but the left side was way worse. I lost a chunk of my nose, and they didn’t know if what they could see back together would even take. My septum was completely cut through, as was my top lip, which suffered some nerve damage, and I don’t have a frenulum anymore!

My eye is what really made me realize I was lucky. Though arguably the least serious problem resulting from this, doctors said if the bite had been even half an inch higher I would have lost my right eye entirely.

This is me last week, with makeup

And probably a month ago, without makeup. Since October 22, 2015 I’ve had two facial surgeries, many many therapy sessions, and one lawsuit over who was going to pay my medical bills. To see this picture next to the first one still absolutely amazes me because I was 10000% convinced my face would be scarred for the rest of my life. Now you can only see the scars if you’re looking for them. I was incredibly lucky that my body healed so well and that I happened to live in an area home to one of the best plastic surgeons in the state. Anyway, thanks for putting up with this, 2 years is a big deal for me, and I wanted to tell someone about it who didn’t experience the whole thing with me.

Cat tax

FP Edit: the frenulum I’m referring to is the piece of skin that connects your top lip to your gums.

Can someone explain to me how I look like Arya Stark I don’t see it?

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and comments :)

Send noods I guess

FP Edit 2: Everyone keeps asking the same questions: what kind of dog was it and how did it happen?

It was a German shepherd beagle mix, but at 95 pounds was the size of a German shepherd.

The dog was my then boyfriends dog and I saw him every single day for the last 7 months we dated up until the day he attacked me. I was very familiar with the dog and he was always friendly and loving. He treated me like his family, and I even took care of him when they were on vacation. The night I was attacked, I was on the couch between my boyfriend and the dog. It was time for me to leave, so I got up and bent down to pet the dog goodbye, something I did every single night. For some reason, he attacked me. My boyfriend says he got his hands between us and pushed me away while holding the dog by his neck against the wall. All I remember is bending down to pet him and then being on my knees 5 feet away, and as I took my hands from my face, saw they were covered in blood and began screaming.

TLDR; bent down to pet the dog like I did every day, he attacked me

I thought you were about 6 years old in the first few pics Babyface McGee. You got some wolverine healability.

With makeup? You're a great eyebrow artist! Glad you didn't have to live a life as scarface. My regards!

Lol thank you I like to think I’m good at them

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

While I may not be a doctor, I'm pretty certain the two holes in your nose are called "nostrils"

I was thinking "when is she gonna show the healed scars?" But you healed so well i couldnt even tell. Im happy for you.

That is not a good doggo

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

I want to say there's no such thing as a bad doggo, but there is.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yeah seriously. There are bad owners. And there are awesome owners with dogs that they don't realize just aren't fit to live with humans.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Wow. Nice outcome.

8 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 4

Hey that’s what my doctor said ????

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I'm not a doctor, but I do occasionally play one on the internet. Outcome is a combo of his skill, your good care...and luck.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Your doctor was hitting on you

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man, I hope you don't have any insecurities about it, because I genuinely could not tell anything had happened from the 2 after pics.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I was 4 I was mauled by the family Doberman. My face was torn up really bad. Thankfully, 40 years later the scars are practically gone.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You look fantastic. No makeup required.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw a brief glimpse of the Stark girl

Yeah, you look amazing. *And now I've said too much. Run away!*

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stitches make wonders. I have experience of having that done for one injury but not for another similar one. It shows, a lot.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously looks amazing. I can't even find the scars WHILE I'm looking for them.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I was bit in the face 2 weeks ago by a dog too. There was so much damn blood...Hope I make as good as a recovery as you @op!

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Message me if you ever want to talk! It can be hard both physically and emotionally and I would have loved someone who understood

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

What actually happened?! Did you try kissing him or somethin? Why'd he attack the face?!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bent down to pet him as I was leaving

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I was bit as a 6 yr old who hit a strange dog who got aggressive with me, 32 stitches on my face. Thank God for plastic surgery and a beard.

Lol I was a 6 yr old, was sitting outside minding my business, a distant neighbors dog came up and started pushing me around, I hit em.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This is why dog owners has to be careful. not saying all dog owners but some more than many. i was bitten by a dog when i was a kid (1)

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

The amount of anxiety I feel when my dog shows any form of aggression is insane. I work hard to fix it, but all it takes is a second.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whatever you do, never sush the dog when it growls, the reason why it growls doesn't go away by it not being allowed to growl.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My female dog is so lovely but very very possessive. I am very careful letting her be around my little niece and nephew

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 as she has warning snapped at them when they got too close to me, and gets scared when they are running around being kids

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

my injuries weren't horrific as this but im still scared of dogs

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Training is super important!! I was working at a training place up until a month before I was bit and learned a lot

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

My sister has been bitten in the face 5 times by 3 different dogs. Twice was our dog, once uncle's dog, lastly by a strange dog at the vet

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Some people get bit a lot! I babysat a kid who got bit all the time for no reason it was ridiculous dogs just didn’t like him

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's true. And the people it happens to aren't mean so it's not like the dogs are "sensing" something. There's gotta be a chemical these

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

unlucky people produce and dogs just fucking hate it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doberman attacked me as a kid. Still have scars on my leg. Dad saved me or would have been much worse. He killed it with his bare hands.

8 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 16

Doberman also bite my face when I was 6. I still have a small scar. I tried to pet it while it was eating.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That’s scary ! Glad your dad was there

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 2

his BEAR hands? Is your dad a bear. I need to know.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

He's more like a half pig half bear half man

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Haha I get that reference +1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wish I didn't google "frenulum". Glad you are doing better tho!

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

Lol it’s just the bit of skin that connects your upper lip to your gums/ tongue to mouth/foreskin to penis what’s the big deal :p

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

TIL that exists on most people.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are other frenulums in other locations...

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 5

Just like the human body has multiple sphincters.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes I know that’s why I threw in the penis one. It’s pretty much just a flap of skin that connects things. Also one on the clitoral hood

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Yer smart

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I try

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Seems like every week I learn about a new part of the vagina. Am I supposed to pop the hood while I'm doing the sex?

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

The vagina is actually only the inner musculature, the outer bit where the clitoral hood/clitoris are located is called the vulva.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This genuinely made me laugh thank you

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Dog bites are the fucking worst. I'm glad you recovered. Are you afraid of dogs now? Or the breed? Just curious as a former dog bather

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Just the big ones, and then barking and dogs in my face give me panic attacks.. also slower to trust new dogs but I still love them

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

But it's sort of strange to me that that dog did that seemingly out of nowhere! Has he ever had aggressive tendencies in the past?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I wanted to ask this too, bet me to it :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not really, just some small incidents. It was very very strange

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This terrifies me. Thank you for sharing your story!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just learn from it! All animals should be treated with caution. Dogs are amazing but they’re all potentially dangerous animals. Take this 1/

You are beautiful. This doesn't compare but once I broke my toe and the nail fell off. It regrew and I 100% believe it is my best toe nail

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

I slammed my finger in the car door like 2-3 months ago. It fell off like 2 weeks ago. Looks so weird.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And by "fell off" I mean I was able to peel it off.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You peeled off your finger? Ew!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No, idiot, the car door!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The finger nail. It was coming off one way or the other! And I was sick of dealing with it lol. I can post a picture if you'd like! ;D

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Go for it!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got the nail of my big toe mostly ripped off in a bike accident at about age 7. It stood up like a toilet lid. It's fine now.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At 12 yrs old I was nearly bitten, quite likely even killed, by a massive rottweiler. Took 6 nearby construction workers beating it on the

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

(cont) head and yelling to make it stop chasing me. The owner came out a bit later and didn't even apologize. Still traumatized, can't look

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

(cont) at a pic of a rottweiler without feeling upset. I might not be here today if those men had not protected me. Screw dogs.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Honestly, it makes you realize why that dog was so aggressive. Some guy's boxer once went after my young niece. It was on a long leash, /1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

but the leash got caught on something before the dog could grab her (luckily). The owner didn't do shit. Just said something like /2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

"Aww, you're not supposed to do that! You're getting a timeout later!" in this sweet tone to his dog. Some people suck as dog owners. 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So lucky. MEDERMA is scar cream, uses onion bioactives. Recommended by my surgeon. Amazing. Even if way after surgeries. Best to you!

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I tried that on a scar after getting my face sliced by a scaredy cat but it burned like hell and I had to wash it off.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Too early then. Wound has to be closed. Then put cream on red scar line. You can still do it now too despite length from time of injury.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So what happened to the dog?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They put him down after like 3 months

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

Should have been much sooner.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

The dog owner argued they weren’t responsible for your medical care? What a scumbag! You look great by the way, would never had known!

8 years ago | Likes 131 Dislikes 5

My friend just got her meniscus torn (knee injury) by a huge dog and got nothing! People got to be responsible for their animals!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree. When a person assaults someone they’re held responsible. Animals can’t be so it should be their owners responsibility

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is the dog still living? A surprisingly common reason why this kind of things happen is the dog has a brain tumor or something like that.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Vet said it was a possibility but it ultimately got out down because no one wanted to keep it anymore.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Generally speaking lousy dog equals lousy human.

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 5

Well you did say generally so I guess I agree...+1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are certainly exceptions, but I've found good owners with problem dogs are very careful.

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 4

Did he tell you those reasons?

A bit off topic but please parents don't let toddlers run unattended in large dog parks. I see this weekly and it makes me cringe.

Some dogs have been bred for brutal instinct alone. It can't be taken out of them no matter how cute and cuddly seems, they still have it.

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 14

What a completely ignorant thing to say. Dogs can attack for any reason and it can absolutely have nothing to do with how they were raised.

As in if a dog bites someone it's automatically destroyed? What if the dog is intentionally provoked?

As someone who has been attacked by a dog.. no not really. I'm an avid cat person, but don't begrudge dog lovers at all. Just not for me.
